I'm surprised there was no mention of the death of John Ritter on the front page. After all, Ritter had a small (actually tiny) part in A New Hope. During the Battle of Yavin, you see him for maybe a second in the Rebel command center using a pen on a glass window. He even joked about it on the Arsenio Hall Show years ago. Besides, he was funny as hell, too.

Are you sure about this cameo? This is the first I've heard of it.

Pretty sure. Arsenio used to invite stars on his show and show them clips of the earliest and/ or most embarassing parts. When he had Ritter on the show, there was the clip of the Yavin Base and there was Ritter.

I just checked my VHS and unless Ritter had a twin and the whole thing on Arsenio was a joke, It's him.

That's very intriguing. It's not in his filmography on www.imdb.com but that doesn't necessarily mean he's not in there. The woman that played Palpatine in ESB doesn't get any credit either. In fact, her name is impossible to find. I'd be interested in seeing the clip where he shows up on Yavin.

Um no... You are probably thinking about John Ratzenberger (Bren Derlin) from Cheers. Ritter wasn't in the movie.

Well, Ratzenberger was in ESB, not ANH.

    Interesting, I had no idea.

I do recall the scene, but not the actor. Perhaps tonight I'll look at it.

It's during the dogfight sequence over Yavin. When you hear "Red Six, can you see Red Five?" Look at the left part of the screen.

He collapsed during rehearsals for his show, 8 SIMPLE RULES, Thursday evening. He was rushed to the hospital across from the studio, but died moments later. He had a heart problem that he didn't even know he had. It's called an aortic dissection, and was a small tear in the main aorta.

I was shocked to hear about it yesterday morning, as it appears just about everyone was. I always thought THREE'S COMPANY was a laugh riot. 54, but still too young, and his career had just been reinvigorated thanks to 8 SIMPLE RULEs. What a shame.

    R.I.P., John.

This is the part where it says "Red Six, can you see Red Five?"

Are we talking about the guy closest to us? I don't really see the resemblance.

Not was not John Ritter, sorry.
Doesnt look like him to me.
Just watched the tape to see.
Three's Company started in 1977, and even before that John was an actor and doubt he would have taken a roll that small.
Sure he wasn't a big name but he had done other acting jobs. He was in Nickelodeon, he played Rev. Matthew Fordwick in a few eps of The Waltons, he did a role on MASH around 73. I can't see him in 1976, at the point in his career, taken on a role that wouldn't even credit him cause it was so small.

Yeah, I just put STAR WARS in and checked that scene. That actor has a slight resemblance to late-70s John Ritter, but not enough for me to say it's him.

    Such a pity. :(

Didn't he also do the voice of Clifford the Big Red Dog in the cartoon series? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I think had even won an Emmy for CLIFFORD, and many people considered his turn in SLING BLADE to be the best performance of his career. He was quite good in it.

Making it all even worse, the day he died was his daughter's fifth birthday, and later this week would have also been his 55 birthday and his and wife Amy Yasbeck's four-year anniversary. I'm still shocked that he's gone. It was just so unexpected.

Ratzenberger is Major Derlin, the guy who tells Leia, "There's nothing more we can do tonight. The shield doors must be closed."

    "has anyone checked the credits?"

That's not a guarantee. Many movies have unlisted roles. Check IMDB and you'll see.

"the guy who tells Leia, "There's nothing more we can do tonight. The shield doors must be closed."

Although it's not his voice. Isn't he also the guy who tells everyone to get to their ships after Leia's speech? ?[face_plain]

BTW, he's also in Firefox :D
