ST John Williams to Score the Sequel Trilogy

I believe he is. And I think by a lot. Wish it was coming out in May like it was supposed to. Just based when they started post-production I would think that Ep. 8 will be completed a lot earlier than TFA.

 

Principal filming VII begins: mid-May 2014
Principal filming VII end: early November 2014
Scoring sessions start: early June 2015

Principal filming VIII begins: mid-February 2016
Principal filming VIII end: mid-July 2016
Scoring sessions start: December 2016

Mm...not by a lot. It's mostly just that VIII began principal filming months earlier than VII did and finished months earlier.

 

I stand corrected. For some reason I didn't think the scoring started that early for TFA.

 

I think we've already heard part of Luke's new theme.

 

I assume that the score is written during filming, then?

 

Williams said a couple months ago Rian was going to show the film to him and then he would compose the music.

John Williams starts recording music for STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII at Sony today. The bulk of scoring will be in the spring.

 

MSW said he could be scoring the trailer if he's working on it now since "the bulk of scoring will be in the spring." I mean, scored the teaser for The Force Awakens, so I don't see why not. I heard a rumor off the JCF a couple of days ago that a title drop/teaser could be coming on Christmas Day. I mean, I doubt it, but it'd be nice if true.

Williams penned teaser music would be cool. It would be even cooler if the trailer editors used it.

 

They used a bit of his score for the very first TFA teaser. There were reports of him recording for it.

I have complete faith in Williams to do something excellent, I just hope the editing doesn't mess it up by relegating it to the background. the score has always been important to my SW experience.

 

Amen to that. I don't think the man gets enough credit. The music is a huge part of what makes Star Wars so magical.

The dude's gonna hit the century mark- just watch. The best way to keep on keepin' on is to keep on keepin' on.

 

I wouldn't necessarily say that. The score doesn't have anything to do with the trailer since the trailers (first ones at least) never contained any new music.

 

The end of the Jedi Steps, when Luke turns around. He might well end up continuing to share the Force theme, but when I watched the Blu-Ray (I was too excited to pay attention in the cinema) I thought that would be a cool theme for Luke.

Yeah. Williams was actually supposed to score an upcoming animated short about him but there haven't been any updates about it. Perhaps they were recording the music for that too along with VIII.
