Got to give the Maestro as much credit as ever. RO soundtrack feels several levels below TFA one.

Williams has an added flourish that makes SW magical.

I really am a fan of Giacchino. But this soundtrack is probably the first one I will listen that will not make me instantly know which scene is in the movie whith each theme.

No doubt has more than a little to do with the ridiculously narrow time crunch. If they ask Giacchino back, for another spinoff or a saga film they'd better give him a lot more freedom.

That said, I listened to the Hope theme and it sounds like Korngold's love theme from Robin Hood had a baby with Luke's theme from ANH. Not bad music to be reminded of.

I'm sure time constraints didn't help but Rogue One sounds consistent more or less with his recent string of mediocre blockbuster scores. There might have once been a time when Giacchino could have written a half decent Star Wars score but that time has long passed. His creative juices are nearly gone.

I'm a huge Star Wars fan. What do I have to do to get in on these recording sessions?

That article is not so good. It haphazardly recycles quotes from a more-than-a-year-old interview with little attention payed to the context of the quotes. For example, the "I suppose none of my work is very memorable" quote was a lighthearted sarcastic quip but here it just sounds like he's lamenting his lack of talent.
What Williams said about never watching Star Wars is probably true though.

[face_thinking] If this recording session was intended to aid editing, does it suggest that the score itself (for the whole movie) is not yet complete then?

Perhaps Thursday's session was for an action sequence. I'm pretty sure Spielberg used a similar approach with the final bike chase from ET, that is cutting the movie to the music. Interesting

    Roll on December [face_dancing]

After R1 music - no matter what they were editing or recording - can't wait to hear the JW scores

I can't wait to hear how Rey's theme is used in VIII. Best of all his Star Wars themes IMO.

Sounds great, but what does it actually mean if Rian wants to edit around the score?

    Does it mean
    (a) he likes what he's heard and wants to fit the scenes to it?
    Or
    (b) whatever JW comes up with he will fit it to that score?

And if the film is already done, how exactly does he edit filmed pieces around music?

I think the fans should make a statement to Lucasfilm:

There NEEDS to be a JOHN WILLIAMS CAMEO latest in episode IX so even people in 100 years will be able to see the face of the guy that gave us this great music.
He already looks like a wise Jedi.

    Unbelievable (just some examples):
Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Superman, Indiana Jones, ET, Dracula, Kevin home alone, Hook, Far and away, Schindlers List (which is even more than awsome), Sleepers, Seven years in Tibet, James Ryan, The Patriot, Harry Potter, Minority Report, War of the Worlds,
