With the spinoffs it would be:

    2015 - Episode VII
    2016 - Spinoff
    2017 - Episode VIII
    2018 - Spinoff
    2019 - Episode IX
    2020 - Spinoff

Not quite 2021, but I know I've seen this referenced somewhere else as well.

The trilogy won't end until the end of this decade. JW is in his 80's and he could die or start to fail in his health.

I guess my question is why would he necessarily die. It is a possibility but so it is with everyone

Not everyone is that old. Isn't mid to late 80's around the time when most people's health begin to deteriorate and when many pass away of natural causes?

Ennio Morricone is the oldest working film composer I've ever heard of and he's 85. There have been some composers that lived longer than that, but they retired many years before they passed. If John Williams lives to be 85, then on the current schedule he should be able to score Episode 8. But what are the odds that the current schedule holds? Alan Horn is set to discuss scheduling for the other episodes with Kennedy today. Who knows. Maybe they'll decide to film those two episodes back to back.

Worry not, Master Yoda. I'm sure his Force Ghost will always be with us.

Wholly unconvinced the first spinoff will come out in 2016. For little we've heard about the ST, we've heard significantly less about them.

Not really upset about that, though. I hope they don't overdo them, anyway.

I highly doubt a 2 year gap between the movies. Of course, filming Episode VIII and IX back to back is quite possible. A 2 year gap would be achievable then. Back to back would be preferred given JW's advanced age. I hope they're listening to me. :D

Dec 2015 - Episode VII (mild competition from Mission Impossible 5)
May 2018 - Episode VIII (will compete with the 3rd weekend of Avengers 2)
May 2021 - Episode IX (will compete with the 3rd weekend of Avengers 3)

    or

Dec 2015 (mild competition from Mission Impossible 5)
Dec 2018 (will compete with one of the Avatar sequels)
    Dec 2021 (TBD)

    First spinoff:

    Sometime in 2017.

I would really like to see a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead style Star Wars film. The spinoff would be set while the events in the ST are going on but an entirely separate story-line. However, you would be able to see how the events in VII/VIII/IX would affect the character and story in different ways. It would be like making a movie in the ESB-ROTJ era about a criminal faction and then boom Jabba the Hutt is killed and you can see how that affects what happens. It would help depict the galaxy as much bigger than any Episode or Trilogy.

One idea would be to have the same scene in the ST show up in the spinoff except the focus would be on a background character (who is the main character of the spinoff)

Well this may be "news" - the official Star Wars Twitter seems to have confirmed that JW will do the score for the entire ST:

Unrelated, but I wanted to share an anecdote from the John Williams concert I went to last week. He talked very briefly about Ep. VII, first praising George's creativity and the "Dickensian richness" of the Star Wars universe, before saying he was looking forward to working with the very successful and accomplished JJ. He also said that, to him, JJ seems to be about 12 years old and he has to try and keep up with him.

In short, John Williams is a sweetheart and I love him. :)

Ahh so the thread came to life again, from eight pages back. Mine wasn't murdered for nothing it seems. Good.

Well it is understandable since only EpVII is in production at the moment. I am positive he will do all the new movies. On the off chance he is not, who should take his place: Jeremy Soul? Dany Elfman? Howard Shore? Hans Zimmer? Ramin Djawadi? Nobuo Uematsu? Clint Mansell?

SW & JW go hand in hand, so its only right that they do their best to get him on board. Great news. I'm looking forward to the score. I imagine the core themes will be very familiar with the OT actors returning so he will have a good basis to start from.

My view is that Williams, at JJ's request, will probably 'over' score Ep VII... and that if he's not onboard for VIII and IX, then they'll be at least able to revisit unused cues etc. We know that there will be lots of reused themes from the OT (and possibly PT), so as long as JW creates a couple of killer new themes for Ep VII (that can be reused) JJ should have some insurance.

When Williams calls it quits: Micheal Giacchino will get the gig. Also, expect to see him get one of the spinoffs.

Also, Hans Zimmer is probably the worst composer I could imagine for a Star Wars movie.

Interesting idea. I like it. Of course the soundtrack could be extended simply by remixing the existing themes with saaay different instruments. As far as I know Imerial March has several variations(The classic, one for the Emperor's arrival in ROTJ, one for the death of Vader, one at the end of AotC).
