ST John Williams scored TFA - incl. Soundtrack discussion

Just passed, sadly.

 

I wonder if lucasfilm will release a music video like the other movies, featuring the new theme. When did they come out for the other movies?

 

I remember Battle of Heroes being released in relatively close proximity with the movie, so I wouldn't expect one too soon.
They actually might not do it, should there not be a big show-stopping theme. There also hasn't been a music video since ROTS (though the Williams scored War Horse teaser is pretty much a music video in and of itself).

Yup. Even if the soundtrack consists entirely of fart noises, I'll buy it, but I do hope it goes on iTunes. I don't think I've purchased an actual CD in 7 or 8 years.

That nearly gave me a heart attack.

 

Anyone knows where this is from? It's obviously not a real leak, since score recording hadn't even started back in January.

 

Fake fake fake. The obviously electronic orchestra and the near note-for-note regurgitation of the militaristic Force theme rendition from ROTS opening give it away. Even if it weren't for those factors, structurally, it's far too disjointed to be written by a Hollywood film composer, much less John Williams.

 

I know John Williams music, that ain't John Williams music.

 

I am listening to Across the Stars right now in my iPhone. Max volume. I wonder how in heaven is the Maestro going to top this masterpiece.

 

By borrowing from his past works. Across the Stars isn't the most original piece of music he's composed. It's good because it's familiar. Nothing wrong with that.

 

Can't disagree. Rearranged notes or not, Across The Stars has to be the most emotional piece of work John ever composed for a SW movie.

 

Did anyone see the John Williams PBS special ? I DVR'd it and watched it Today, it was fantastic Great Performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Across the Stars is a great track, would've been nice it was used on an actual good love story.

 

I agree it was a great track but I disagree with the Love story being bad, It reminded me of the love story in Empire, so you might say it was an Homage !!!!!!!!!

 

Oh god no, that love story was the most awkward and chemistry-free pairing in recent memory.

 

LOL-Well, of course no one ever said anything about the terrible romance in the movie, just that the piece is great.

 

My favourite ever period of JW's work is his string of scores around the turn of the century, including TPM and AOTC, also AI, the Harry Potter films he scored (particularly Prisoner of Azkaban, one of my top JW scores), Minority Report, I love them all from that time. Across The Stars is the perfect example from that JW era.

This special was on TBS last night, and at the :40 mark, he's shown conducting a theme I'd never heard before. Obviously, if it was for TFA, we'd have heard something by now. But still, my curiosity gets the better of me. It looks like he conducted it recently and I'm trying to figure out what it's for. Anybody know? http://video.pbs.org/video/2365533302/
