Yeah, it's no problem. We just need people who know their way around the 'burgh so we don't get lost ;)

I was up there on Sunday and it was FREEZING!

Would anyone like to suggest a date? If we say February (to give people time to save up) then we have the following weekends:

    Sat 2 - Sun 3
    Sat 9 - Sun 10
    Sat 16 - Sun 17
    Sat 23 - Sat 24

This can be a one day/weekender, so it's up to people how long they wish to go for.

I'd prefer it not to be the 16-17th as it's my dad's birthday. There's also a 99th event on the 2nd, which some people might be attending, but the 9-10th or the 23-24th is good either way.

23rd 24th would suit me best since the 16th 17th is out, I'll put this one to my peeps and see what they think!

The later week is fine with me (as far as I know), and yep I am definitely up for this - I'll come the whole weekend, but I'd recommend we do the main stuff on a Sat when public transport is better.

anyone else going up for the sat only that needs tickets? I'll have a look at cheapo tickets for a day return....

Looks like the cheapest at the mo is to get two single tickets, each costing £9.45 in advance for a specific train.

How about setting off at say 09.00 which gets us in for 11.00. Earlier of later says ye? And coming back.....?

9 is good. I was going to suggest an early start.

Coming back, well, that depends on trains available and how we're getting back from the station to our houses.

Right, we'll go for the 23rd & 24th then, with the option for people to come for the day or the weekend.

Some useful websites to get us started:

No idea where abouts in Edinburgh it is, but I hear the Monster Mash cafe does good food if we need somewhere to eat! Cheesy retro diner sorta place, and apparently does vegetarian haggis... intriguing :p

Just checked timetables on the trainline.com for Saturday 23 February - West Coast route, no trains from Carlisle, replaced by buses making a normal 1 hr 30 minutes direct trip to Edinburgh into 3 hours via Glasgow, similar situation on Sunday for anyone returning on the West Coast service.
