Am I correct in assuming that the story is framed as a 'camp fire' story telling session about Luke? So the entire book is canon, it's just that the stories being told in-story aren't necessarily completely true? Are the stories told about Luke told by the characters of the book, or do they set it up and then the 'author' takes over (if that makes sense)?

That's how the book is being described. It's to give context to how Rey sees Luke and why she thought he was a myth.

I'm mainly wondering if portions of the book will basically be 'Legends (branding)' ( (i.e. third person non-character author) or will there be a canon superstructure with canon characters telling these stories (if that makes sense)? So will the entire book be canon, with canon characters telling stories? Or will there be canon portions and non-canon portions?

I'm not sure what style individual stories are told with, but the idea is they are indeed being told by Canon characters on a ship.

Easy solution: Forget canon, just go with the flow.

It's a bunch of people on a ship exchanging stories about Luke -- or rather, stories they've heard about Luke.

The "narrator" of the story is different in each story, and they vary in tone and style.

I toyed with taking a pic of the table of contents and posting it but I didn't want to spoil folks and I've already handed the book off to a friend (after rush reading it).

The stories take place over a variety of time periods and are....

    almost all post-Jakku

    ;)

As for whether they're true or canon or whatever... guess that's up to whether you believe who's telling the story! That's the fun conceit. Maybe they're true or false or both.

Are any stories between Endor and Jakku?

Possibly? It's not precise but there are context clues.

Oh! That will make it especially fun! I enjoy stories that leave room for speculation. So the more options the better

Sounds great, especially the fact that each narrator is unique and brings their own style. Basically it sounds as though while each story is a 'legend' (and has all the embellishment that entails) the telling of the stories is canon (i.e. there is actually someone in-universe telling the stories). If so that's great.

Avoid reddit if you don't want to be spoiled, gals and guys. Someone's gone and posted a summary of this book.

    It’s labeled as spoiler.

Not impressed by what I read but will suspend judgment until book is in hand.

A day or two after release is fine but weeks before, even with that tagging ain't cool for me.

I've had books early, it's great fun, but just blowing the lid off it all because you can I don't care for.

So would this be akin to an anthology book?

Not at all. There's a framing story, and inset stories.
