Lou, KY June 2014 Book o' the month

The new Empire and Rebellion books seem pretty cool. The idea is to take a novel set in the time of the movies (between A New Hope and Empire) and explore one of the big three. The Luke book will be released in 2015, so we are going to pick between a Princess and a Nerf herder.

Looks like Han won!

 

I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying this book. I guess I had low expectations because it's two authors collaborating...almost a book by committee. But they really seem to have Han's "voice" (at least the young pre NJO Han) in a way few authors have managed. Plus, and maybe because he's on my mind, this book has the sense of humor of a Aaron Allston book. If Kenobi was our best book for 2013 I think this one may be it for 2014.

I have it, but I am holding off on reading until closer to June.I am finishing up the Leia book, and it is not too bad.
I also noticed that there is no audiobook for the Solo book.
Also also, I noticed that the once off the schedule Luke book is now back on the schedule for 2015-- the only known adult fiction book for next year.

Not to get ahead of ourselves, as this will be a good question for June, but who else has nailed Solo's "voice?" Top answer for me would be Brian Daley. Crispin maybe, but she didn't really have a lot of dialogue. Except for Scoundrels (ironically) I think Zahn did too. Lucino nailed it too, but that was NJO in what was really a love story for his late friend Brian Daley.

Whatsa Messa saying?!?! Peter and Holland David did it the best in the Glove of Darth Vader! Han Solo and his skyhouse.

 

Yeah, I think this is the best Han since Brian Daley but part of it is since he's the central character he has more "screen time" than anyone else and doesn't have to share the spotlight like he does in the NJO.
I'm interested in hearing what everyone else thinks at the meeting.

 

I've got the audiobook and am really enjoying it. I think I am in the minority on this, but I like narrator Marc Thompson's take on Han Solo.
