Just Friends

She looked at his back while he talked to his men and it was fine. Smiling to herself, she let her gaze wander over his back, the blue marks of his armour, the pauldron. She could not hear his voice where she sat, but she knew it was firm, deep, commanding. Very much like the voices of all other clones, but still very distinct.

The clone captains clean shaved head stood out in the mass of wild hairstyles. She liked it. The Togruta never understood what other species found attractive about scalp hair anyway. Her hand wandered up to her short head tails self-consciously. For a while she had been worried, really worried. Jedi were not allowed to love and this had felt - amazing. But she had the best Master in the whole galaxy, Anakin Skywalker. He had all her fears scattered within a heartbeat.

Ahsoka dangled her feet, the crate she sat on standing higher than herself. Her boot bounded an unsteady rhythm on the durasteel, but nobody minded. She was here and that was fine. Perfectly fine, because they were just friends. Master Skywalker was a blessing sometimes.

She stared down at her dangling feet. It had been the way he looked at Senator Amidala, it was difficult to think he did not care for her ferociously. And she had looked at him that way, too. Protective, possessive, caring. Ahsoka had not known what to make of it. But it was clear that Master Anakin strove to be with the Senator, their small gestures carried a weight of information, she found difficult to ignore. Ahsoka wondered why Master Kenobi never said a word about it.

Jedi do not love. And if they do? Ahsoka looked up shortly, her gaze bouncing back from the white armoured back like a thief. So she had asked Master Skywalker about it. She had ever seen him look so shocked.

"Why do you think we are anything but friends?" Consternation had been in hit tone and face.

She had explained it to him, all of it, even the embarrassing parts. Because it might not be a padawan's job to notice when her Master's eyes were afire. It might not be right to watch his contacts that closely. He might wonder why she had done it. That would have been the most embarrassing.

But he had laughed. Long and hard, and he had clapped a hand on her shoulder, not angry at all. "Ahsoka," he had said, "Padme Amidala and me are just friends. Very good friends, yes, but still just friends." He had become earnest suddenly and looked her into the eyes. "You understand that, Ahsoka, don't you?"

She had nodded. It was being friends, it was okay. It was just fine. Senator Amidala was just a very close friend to Master Skywalker, just as she was - a white armoured figure entered her field of vision. Ahsoka raised her head and found herself looking at Capitan Rex.

"Ready to go, little one?"

Ahsoka felt her heart skip a beat as the tingling settled all over he body. She took his offered arm to jump down from the crate even though she didn't need it. It was all perfectly fine because they were just friends.

She feels the same kind of "friendship" for Rex that Ani feels for Padme.

And it shouldn't be forbidden!
