We see that Finn gets wounded twice by light sabre blows. To what extent is he injured? He never awakens after his injuries that we see. Does this indicate that his injuries may be fairly serious? Not necessarily the cross beam to the shoulder wound but more the sabre strike down the spine. Will this injury be severe enough that he is now crippled and requires mechanical assistance to function? Will he be vaders anti-type? The struggle of good turning to bad influenced by becoming a cyborg? Thoughts?

The novel has a medic talking about his injury and the medic says he will be fine. The medic was not used to heal lightsaber wounds for quite a long time, since people in this time mainly only use blasters and lightsabers are again mystical weapons.;)

He will be fine doesn't really give us much does it? I mean that's like saying he's going to live, he'll need a new shoulder but he'll be fine. Or he'll be fine we can fix him, we can rebuild him, better, stronger, faster than before

Yep that's true and since he was unconscious until the end, they hand over the decision to Rian. But not only the decision about Finn's appearance after this battle, but also the whole route they will go with Finn. To be serious until now I can only see that JJ/Kasdan had the idea of a deserting stormie, but that's all. No intention to bring his story any further after Rey appears. So his fate is left in the hands of Rian, the same way as Luke's fate is left in the hands of Rian. ;)

Well seems that since they tried to establish a close relationship between Rey and Finn he will be much more than just a storm trooper deserter.

Finn is alive at the end, just badly injured. There was some line when Finn's body is back on the Resistance base and a medic mentions that there is still a pulse.

Looks like it was a very deliberate slash to the spine, maybe he'll end up paralyzed. It'll obviously still get fixed with a robot spine or something. Still disappointed that he didn't lose his arm though lol.

Dammit, I was hoping he was dead. Great acting / performance, I just don't like his character in the SW universe.

I know he'll be back but what of the ramifications of his injuries will they play a role in character development?

I think Kylo should've killed him. It's daft that he lived.

I think Kylo slashed his spine, putting him in a coma until they can repair his spine.

I don't buy that. There are mysteries to Finn that weren't introduced by accident in TFA.

Possibly a "cyborg" in VIII w/ synthetic muscle for his damaged shoulder and spinal prosthetics. Just how good are bacta tanks?

Wonder how critical the wound with the cross beam is. Could still happen but I doubt it

He'll be back in the next episode. His wounds were pretty bad but the medical bay will fix him.

Up to Rian? Kathy Kennedy is in charge, not the hired directors and writers.

The script for VIII has already been written.

    His fate is already set.

    He is fine.

The only point of the injury was to split him and Rey up for the next movie.
