We all know Star Wars has some great names. What are some of the best? (This has nothing to do with the character associated, just how cool the name is if you heard it without context.)

I think anything alien just sounds cool. Just make up names and you'll find that they can work too.

My personal favorite however would have to be Maximilian Veers!

In keeping with the perceived teen-targeted audience Del Rey believes SW is, simple syllabled names that's easily digested by kindergardeners. And a Streenload of Y-names. Now lets rhyme a song altogether now because Frodo can't stop doing it every 20 pages.

 

Here's one:

Suitably bland and uninteresting to boot!

 

Who could have thought misspelling your registeration could have such payoff?

 

I love the sound of "Soontir Fel." Of course, that could also be because I love his character. I'd have to agree with an above user with "Maximillian Veers."
Do his friends call him Max?

They're all pretty cool. I used to hate Anakin. I was apalled when RotJ came out. I thought, OMG! What a stupid name!
But it's grown on me like Hayden's uncombable goldish/honey brownhair, and puckered lips....

I don't care for Borsk Feylya. It sounds like some Russian guy. Borsht filet.

And I thought Hethrir was a miss. A guy with long blonde hair = Heather!
And Fiola of something something.....

And some other things, like planet names (Ex-Gal 4. WHY?), ysalamiri, and those things in JAT, with the glass tubes that Leia crashed into. (Leia's killed like billions of people on accident).

I didn't like Thrawn either. Thrawn itself is alright. It reminds me of prawns. But whole Mururnu'Thrawn'ododdourorodoudo thing...... Actually I don't like a lot of Zahn names, because they are very hard sci fi, and SW isn't.

SW is fantasy and the names are easy for people to say and remember.


"I don't care what it sounds like, I don't have to pronounce it." is poor story telling.


My favorite name is Tion Hegemony. What a cool name! Boz Pity. Dxun. Theed. Taun We. Bib Fortuna. Sio Bibble.

Only GL should name names. Other authors try to be cool, but they can't do it.

Tsavong Lah. Even though I hated him, but he was the villain, so I guess I was probably supposed to. Lumiya scores a close second, and the name Carth Onasi is actually pretty cool too.

 

Used to hate their names, but they grew on me, Brenn & Dellis Tantor. I never did complete that game, at least, I can't remember what happened after Brenn defected to the Alliance.

 

Alderan.

Just sounds so cool, I can say a planet name, right?

I liked Mon Mothma. Joruus C'baoth, and Bastila Shan (especially how she pronounces it). And of course Garm Bel Iblis.

and Skynxnex is my favorite unpronouncable name
with the Teljkon vagabond as a close second (telly-kon? while reading I just switched letters around and said "Telkyon")


and Yuuzhan'tar is a pretty cool planet name
(honorable mention to Felucia, which simply reminds me of fellatio, and Aayla's presence doesn't help )

Now Mon Mothma, I never liked, not even back in the ROTJ novel. It reminds me of Mothra.

I love how Boba and Jango have really kidish cute sounding names that still seem super cool. (And now by association tough and badass.)

For me names that I really like are:

1. Assajj Ventress

2. Quinlan Vos

3. Kit Fisto

4. Lando Calrissian (especially the last name)

Names that are similar to ours, somehow, don't sem so cool to me, eg. Anakin Skywalker, Kyle Katarn, Jacen (just another way to write Jason). Although Solo is a cool last name to have, IMO.

 

Demetrius Zaarin and Harkov always had a nice ring to my ear.

And Excellence, I'm surprised you didn't mention Sweitt Concorkill.

You know, while a lot of the first-naming of movie characters baffles me (Firmus?), that's one that really just works. It just sounds so Imperial.

I always liked Aves, for some reason. I like all Karrde's people's names, actually. Chin, Dankin, Fynn Torve.

And Shedao Shai. Nifty name.

 

You beat me! I was just about to add Aves to my list of names from Star Wars I like. I've been fond of the puns associated with Talon's ships...the Uwana Buyer has always been my favorite.

Gilad Pellaeon is also a great name, IMHO.
