PT Kan Bonfils (TPM Saesee Tiin) Has Passed Away

    An actor who appeared in James Bond films and as a Jedi master in the Star Wars franchise has collapsed and died during a theatre rehearsal.
    Kan Bonfils was rehearsing for Dante's Inferno, which was due to open at The Rag Factory in London this week.

    According to his Wiki entry, he was in his early 40s.

    Sad news indeed - such an important figure for the 'Star Wars' franchise and a visible, effective henchman in the Bond films: 1997's 'Tomorrow Never Dies' and 2012's 'Skyfall'.

    I just caught this sad news. Hopefully there can be some comfort to be had for Mr. Bonfils' family and friends in knowing that Kan died while doing what he loved.

    Damn, I remember when I was younger, I tried to get his autograph because I was a big fan of the Jedi Council of The Phantom Menace. Being the skilled stuntman that he was, I was also disappointed he didn't return in any of the sequels in which Saesee Tiin actually fought (in particular, Revenge of the Sith which was just sad). I also liked how his sharp features looked in the makeup. The other actors just didn't look as good.

    Just found this excellent article by Phantom effects designer, Shaune Harrison, with some excellent behind-the-scenes photos.

    Harrison was responsible for designing and applying the prosthetics for Saesee Tiin. Artists like Harrison (working under classic Star Wars effects guru, Nick Dudman) really helped bring classic Star Wars aliens alive for a new generation.
