Comics Kanan (Marvel) #1: The Last Padawan, part 1 (of 5)

The comic did make me want to know more about newcanon Depa.

 

Speaking of newcanon Depa. I sorta feel she's been de-aged and/or made overall 'cooler' than her stern, stand-in movie counterpart.

 

Perhaps a bit. Could be the comic medium using TPM Depa as a basis, instead of aging her some 13 years.

She's downright snarky at times - eventually admitting at one point that glibness is not exactly appropriate for a Jedi Master.

 

Is it me or was Depa drawn a little more "sexualised" than her live action character.

 

Not as much as Chopper.

 

All live-action Depa did was sit in a chair.

Oh, and stand in the background.

This was a great issue. I can't wait to read more. It's irritating we have to wait until May!

 

Ah about Depa not Happy. Shatterpoint was great and its invalidated for Kanan......yeah not a good trade in my book.

Fantastic first issue, the best issue of the Marvel Star Wars comics so far. Loved the bold, colourful artwork, the story and characterisation of Kanan and that ending! Looking forward to issue #2.

 

Well I didn't notice this when I read the comic. Interesting observation.

 

Interesting indeed. Though admittedly wearing single shoulderpads isn't a super-uncommon fashion trend in the GFFA.

That's the problem with these TCW/Rebels series. They make the Jedi way too sexualized. I mean look at Oppo Rancisis in TCW. He had a tail and was even slithering around at one point. I don't know if I can take that sort of hyper-sexualization in my Jedi. Certainly not Oppo. And now look, Depa is standing and you can sort of see some skin under that sleeve when she fights and stuff. I mean c'mon woman cover up! And then she moves and sometimes -- good grief! -- you can see she has a body underneath those robes. Back in the chair, woman. Back in the chair. And no makeup this time.

Clearly it was just me who thought Depa was sexualised.....I also clearly need serious help

Seriously, though I think Depa was always depicted somehow younger than in
TPM and AOTC.
