No doubt in my mind that Rey and/or Kylo are Skywalker or Skywalker/Solo

It's a good thing that this thread has been bumped. It sheds some light on the impossibility of Rey Random.

 

Not necessarily, the only Skywalker could be Kylo.

 

No reason to doubt this. I also think that in the Skywalker family, evil tends to skip a generation. Here's looking at you Kylo.

 

I believe they are both Skywalker (either Leia or Luke's). I'm not sure how well it would go if only the villain were the legacy character.

People forget that Luke and Leia are actually legacy characters. If there is one more Skywalker (Kylo or Rey, but not both) then we have more than enough to call it Skywalker saga.

 

I believe the ST can still be a generational family saga with only Kylo being related. But, the SST, with Kylo possibily out of the picture, would lead us to a saga with no more Skywalkers involved. So it really deppends on whether they want SW Episodes to always be about the Skywalkers, or just this new trilogy.
