    According to the U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) Space Surveillance Network (SSN), of the more-than 10,000 space objects currently orbiting Earth, only 7% are operational satellites. 15% are rocket bodies, and about 78% are fragmentation and inactive satellites.

    About 84% of the orbiting objects are located approximately 800 kilometers above Earth, approximately twice the normal altitude of the International Space Station.
