Books KENOBI by John Jackson Miller: The Official Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

That is the worst Star Wars pun I have ever heard.

All this teasing is killing me... Not even a single spoiler's leaked?

 

I've been working on my review today, and even in that it's been hard for me to spoil a lot of things because of how good it is.

Like the time travel. Man, did not see that coming.

 

Oh, kark my inattentiveness. I didn't realize I was in a spoiler thread and clicked that by accident because I was watching TV instead of focusing.

 

Still not focusing...I missed a joke, didn't I?

 

The "joke" is that he's doing the same thing everyone in the TFN old boy's club does when they get early books: enjoy dangling that fact to everyone who asks without actually answering any questions.

 

Trust me, you don't want it spoiled. The awesomeness of this book should go unspoiled.

 

Oh, I don't want to be spoiled. I was crushed when I read a spoiler for the end of Into the Void before I got it.

 

That's an appalling lie and you should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking it--Horsey's a girl.

 

I absolutely want it spoiled. That's the whole point in visiting spoiler threads. There are some books I'll buy because I'm eager to read them and I trust I'll enjoy them, but Star Wars books are no longer among them, fan-favorite authors or not (and it's not like JJM hasn't had clunkers in the past, even though it seems like he gets perpetual free passes here).

After how badly Del Rey has worked to strip away my support of them, George RR Martin or Stephen Baxter or the like could publish a Star Wars book and the only way I would actually use my sparse income on it was once I knew exactly what happened in the book. It's supposed to be the journey, after all.

 

You also might want to consider that some of us only have early copies for a specific reason, and said reason specifically does not involve spilling all the book's secrets before it comes out.

Tuesday, of course, will be a different matter.

 

Also, as a note, I'm usually pretty good about dropping generic and/or non-spoiler answers or out of context things to either clarify or provide what I feel are things to get amped for.

However, JJM's made it clear he doesn't even like that so, out of respect, I haven't. It's not always as nefarious as one makes it out to be.

 

I just enjoy being an ass sometimes.

 

So I guess this book is probably worth ordering if the hints here are anything to go by?

Yeah, JJM removed it from his facebook wall soon after posting it. Maybe it was accidentally posted too early or something.

 

I'm reading through Stackpole's Battletech books now and am experiencing this exact same thing.

 

Some of the Stackpole fight scenes are amazing (Solaris VII arena fights with Rifleman, I'm looking at you!) but you'er right -- the plot of the books is meatier than the fight scenes...

Must've been one of the meditations that included a major spoiler. Hopefully he reposts tomorrow.
