Kentucky Rolex: Single Pick Game: Congrats Trika!!!!

Ooh, Rogue...Jedi got Teddy, huh? I haven't followed the Rolex or eventing in-depth in a while, but that's one name I know.

I've never done one of these games before, but it looks like fun. I'll have to remember to look for the Triple Crown one too when it starts.

Yeah, I'd say Teddy is one of the favs for this Rolex, but anything can happen.

 

What do you know about my horse?

 

I believe the competition starts today, the 24th? The site seems to have a scoreboard and leaderboard up.

 

Dressage Test? What is that?

 

Dressage is about precision movement. How well you can command your horse to do certain things at a predetermined time. They know the test ahead of time and get to practice it, however you still have to have your horse collected, on the bit, and it is supposed to look like you're dancing. That's the best way to describe it.

Becky Holder and Courageous Comet are in the lead with an incredible Dressage score. In Dressage you get points added on when you do something wrong. So you want a low score. Only half the riders have gone though so the lead could change after the other half gets to go.

 

Can't say I'm displeased from the results so far. 3d, 7th, and 10th for mine. Still a good chance.

Yeah, well the North is cold, so my Comet would melt all the North's ice, thereby burning your Spy up. And my Comet can hit into your Spy, killing it.

But then my horse Colombo would put on a trench coat and solve the case, tossing your intergalactic hunk of dust behind bars.

Cross Country day!!! Here are some pictures of the jumps. There are 33 total jumps (I don't have pics for them all, just some of the more interesting ones.) The optimum time is 11 minutes to complete the course, but you can go up until 22 minutes before getting time penalties.

You are jumping the corner of two diamond fences for the quickest route, however the corner jumps are easier for horses to duck out on (not jump the fence) so it is a risk. You can jump the left or the right side corners (with two strides between each fence) or you can jump into the square and jump out, then jump into the second one and jump out (which takes more time).

Front view and side view. You jump through the circle on this one, not over the handle, but over the basket part.

This jump is called the Sunken Road. There are a number of options, but most require you to jump, then jump down, then jump up and jump a jump immediately after jumping up out of the road.

Another water jump. You jump over the jump into the foreground, there is a drop into water after it, gallop through the water and then jump the jump on the left side of the picture. (Either of the three parts)

Squirrel jumps. There are two of these. You are jumping the bushy tail.

Courageous Comet went clean through Cross Country. That's incredible to have such a low score going into the Stadium Jumping. The pressure is on!

I know it's a bit late, but if anyone wants to see pictures of the horses, most of the competitors can be found here.

I was very sad to hear about Frodo Baggins. He was one of the Dark Riders' horses in LOTR. He took a bad fall on the cross-country course and was euthanized. (Link, scroll down to 4/26 Press Statement #2.) I hope his rider, Laine, has a speedy recovery.

The Quiet Man, who also fell on the Cross Country course, has also been put down due to injuries.

Inspection this morning showed 2 withdrawals and 2 eliminations:
Northern Spy & Heidi White did not present.
Hugh Knows & Karen O'Connor were held and later Withdrew.
Acapulco Jazz & Bonner Carpenter and Paleface & Waylon Roberts were not passed by the Ground Jury.

The have an inspection every morning before each day to make sure the horses are sound and still up to the challenges presented during the day. If any of the inspectors feel the horse is not up to it they will not pass them and make them step out of the competition.
