One thing keeps rolling in my head... puzzling the WHY Luke is hiding... why he fears coming out and going into exile (if the rumors and spoilers are right)...

    Parallel to ESB.

WHY in the world YODA, the most powerful JEDI in the universe doesn't come out, takes his lightsaber and powers and face the Emperor and Vader himself, but instead sends a mere padawan learner to face Vader and the Emperor ALONE?

    What happened???

I think (maybe I overthink it too much) there is a key here that parallels Luke's fate in The Force Awakens...

Both Yoda and Luke (once again, if the rumors are proven true) go in Exile for 30 years.

    WHY?

And what are their fears? Why they hide?

Why YODA sends Luke to face Vader?

Yoda could have defeated Vader with a glance... in ESB, he was moving ships with his mind.

What if we find out in the Sequel Trilogy that duel between Jedi and Sith are not decided by who is stronger or more skilled but.... something elses... like....

Compatibility. In order to defeat a Sith, you must have that SOMETHING in your FORCE Spectrum...

    Follow me...

That would explain why Obi Wan sacrifices himself to Vader in Episode IV...

He was Luke's master. By sacrificing himself to Vader, he knew he'd render Luke "compatible" to ultimately face and defeat Vader.

The same with Obi Wan and Darth Maul.... Maul killed Qui Gon... Obi Wan's master. The Obi Wan was apt to defeat Maul...

Maybe the ONLY WAY for a Jedi to defeat a Sith... without falling to the dark side of the Force, is to avenge a Fallen master.

Yoda knew he couldn't defeat the Emperor. If he did, he would fall to the darkside of the Force...

That is why he ran and hid.

Same is why Obi Wan never wanted to kill Anakin and hid.

The "New Hope" was triggered by the fact Obi Wan sacrificed himself to Vader, hence, gave the opportunity to Luke (the key - the free pass) to avenge his master.

Let's bring this to the Sequel Trilogy....

    If my theory is right.......

A Jedi defeats a Sith with no "free pass/Key" (A la Anakin killing Dooku)... then becomes a Sith.

    Who is the Jedi
    Who is the Sith

And who provides the "free pass/ The Key / The New Hope"???

    My point is...

A JEDI only can defeat a Sith that has killed his master... if he doesn't... he falls to the Dark side of the Force.

So, if my Theory is correct I see 2 possible outcomes to Episode VII:

1 - Luke falls to the Darkside saving someone from a Sith lord/Wannabe... that has certainly not killed Obi Wan nor Yoda.

2 - Luke sacrifices himself to give that "Free pass/Key" to a new Jedi that will avenge him in the next Episodes.

In conclusion... I don't see Luke, as we know him for long....

    (EDIT)...

And maybe that's the opposite scheme for a Sith... in order to become more powerful, you have to kill your Master.......

Mav Edit: Locking this thread, there are plenty of threads to discuss such ideas.

Anakin didn't fall to the dark side by killing Dooku.

Those are some interesting thoughts, but I don't agree with the free pass idea.

Lord Vader: Pay no mind to those quick to ridicule. Interesting theory. I assumed Yoda went into hiding because he failed to kill Palpatine. It became necessary for him to retreat and wait for an opportunity to present itself. Same for Obi Wan & now Luke. Tho I have a hard time believing Luke has been in hiding for the entirety of thirty years...

The Luke going to Exile for 30 years is from Latino Review, who it seems have recently begun to retract it.[face_laugh]

The more recent rumors have all been 10 years missing.;)

I'm not quick to dismiss it.

From a narrative point-of-view his theory is right on the mark...it's the old cowboy western/samurai revenge formula - Tarantino's schtick too. Thematically, what the OP writes is exactly how the whole saga is structured. In-story mechanics, probably not, but still interesting.

I like it and it really makes sense. My thought however is that if this were true, we would have known it by now considering nearly 40 years of Star Wars...

Exactly... Anakin defeated him and was not turned to the darkside. Yoda was about to defeat him as well until Dooku deftly put Obi-Wan and Anakin in danger forcing Yoda to let off the pressure and allowed him to escape.
