    "Our toolbox can't be sabotaged?"

Really? The only way to make an entertaining action film is to kill a bunch of people? Well, at least we know they are as awful people as they were charged with being after the first film.

Well, in this case, it is what it is. Yes you can make an action flick without killing lots of people. No this is not one of those action flicks. I don't think Carrey is a terrible person for doing this but it's just odd, off the wall, and really does nothing to help the real world. That might seem derisive, but 'tis not my intention.

Fiction vs reality. Yes there are some blury lines when someone makes art to make commentary. But this reminds me of a relative who will see an actor fall and hurt themselves in a comedy and feels the need to inform me that such an event would not be funny in real life.

Millar's full response is much better than the 2 or 3 sentences that link picked out to report on.

If Jim Carrey is really against his own film I'm sure he'll donate his paycheck to a charity that helps families of gun violence. Or does he plan on profiting from this violence that he is now against?

No it isn't. Most all the additional material is just advertising filler for the film itself, promising fans that it will be TOTALLY AWESOME or telling them to look out for a particular scene even though Jim Carrey objects to the whole movie.

Then why does it need to exist? If the only form it can take is purposeless, repugnant celebration of ultra-violent behavior, why should anyone spend any time on it at all? There's no imperative for this film to be made if all it brings to the table are negatives.

Caught a showing this evening. It was fun, but not the pure joy that Kick-Ass 1 was.

It lacks the peppy start of the first film as well as anything nearing the emotional awesome of Hit Girl trying to save/avenge Big Daddy. However it does make for a good continuation nonetheless.

Chloe is awesome in the film though- she is really the star, though you wish Jim carrey had way more screentime (he's hreat in his scenes, however).

It streamlines the comic (good- moves the suburb assault target to a different, more logical, victim), goes for a less epic scope than the comic (bad- the big Times Square melee takes place in a warehouse here, and the whole stop-the-bombs-in-NYC plot is never implemented), course corrects for some of the changes the first film made from the comic (good- they drop the girl he wasn't supposed to get), makes this less dark than the comic (mixed, but expected- the comic was way too dark to fit the tone established by the first film) and makes some changes from the comic that seem to complicate their ability to adapt the story (so far at least- it's only two issues in currently) of Kick-Ass 3 into a film, only partially include some subplots from the comic (Ser Gregor only has one scene).

Part of that streamlining also involves dropping most of the Hit Girl miniseries storyline (it's only 4-5 scenes), in a way that avoids it feeling like a Mean Girls riff- though that facet is still there, and it's almost like the film's satire is mostly focused around that initially rather than the comics of the first film.

Hopefully it will perform badly enough to kill the franchise entirely.

There's only one more story left to be told (or 1.5 if they carry over unused storylines from KA2), so the franchise can't go on for much longer anyways.

Oh, and I forgot to mention- there is an after-credits stinger on this one.

I don't get how it can do so badly. This movie was amazing.

I do agree that plot-wise it wasn't as strong (I'll totally echo the Mean Girls vibe), but I don't think I've laughed so hard in a film.

They actually don't have the rape in the movie, but it is attempted.

I think you meant dry legitimate raping.

Unless it's attempted rape, in which case it's just called attempted rape.

Sounds like this movie is going to rape a lot of people out of $8.75.
