And they're getting the band back together? Count me in!

For Wasteland 2, we?re getting the band back together again!. Brian Fargo who Executive Produced both Wasteland and Fallout will be heading the team. Alan Pavlish and Mike Stackpole?the original game?s primary designers?are coming back to put the project together, and we?re rounding up as many of the other designers, like Ken St. Andre, as we can. On top of that, we?ll have music by Mark Morgan of Fallout 1 and 2 fame. The storyline for Wasteland 2 was written by Jason Anderson who was the co-creator of Fallout. We have also enlisted the help of the amazing concept artist, Andree Wallin to help craft the Wasteland 2 world.

What's Wasteland, you say? (if so, get out of the thread!) Have you heard of Fallout? This was first and the grand-daddy of them all! It was, I believe, the first RPG to offer a persistent state world as well as using morality-based decision trees (e.g. Light/Dark options).

    Go forth and be supportive!

    Someone's a bonehead.

I never played Wasteland (no Apple II or C64), but I like the sound of this, and I like the idea of more of this sort of thing happening in the Games Industry. So I'll probably donate the minimum amount to get the game.

Michael Stackpole, eh? The X-Wing guy. I liked those books.

It's actually interesting Jayps, but I never EVER knew that about him (Stackpole). I knew of him from FASA and BattleTech and loved his stuff there, so picked up the X-Wing books which actually helped cement me into the EU, post-Thrawn Trilogy.

But I'm realizing now with my love of quality videogames and my love of quality SFF writing that so much of the stuff I loved back then and love now are intertwined. For example, Stackpole worked not only on Wasteland -- but both early Interplay ST games (25th Ann / Judgment Rites) and Bard's Tale III (though most consider BT2 to be the best of the games, I believe).

Similarly, many of the writers I love now (JMS, Michael Reaves, Luceno + Daley, etc.) all tended to write for the cartoons I enjoyed more than the others (and which were slightly more adult in tone than, say, The Snorks).

    I personally liked Allston's X-Wing novels better.

But I think that's mostly because of Lieutenant Kettch.

Publisher: "Sounds like a derivative of Fallout."
Brian: "Actually it was the other way around. We wanted to make a Wasteland 2 but we didn't have the rights, so we made Fallout instead"
Publisher: "Interplay made Fallout 3? I loved that game."
    Brian: "No ... we made Fallout 1 & 2."
    Publisher: "There was a Fallout 1 & 2?"
    Brian: " [face_plain] ... yes."

    [face_laugh]

    EDIT: pledged
