A friend of mine has a 7 year old son, who like any sane 7 year old boy loves Star Wars. He's also quite smart reading at something like the 5-6 grade level. What if any of the book series would be good for one such as him?

The Young Jedi Knights, Junior Jedi Knights, Jedi Apprentice, and Boba Fett young adult books. Some of the "adult" books could be read by a pretty quick 7-8 years old. I actually read the Correlian Trilogy in 2nd grade.

Try some of the adult books as well as the young adult and youth books. Though you may want to stay away from some of the books released '94 and beyond as they may be slightly more adult than you may wish the kid to see.

There was a slight classification error, sad but true. Most SW "adult" books nowadays are more teen reading.

But with the graphic horror, genocide, and rampant sacrifice and eviscerations, the NJO is good to avoid. Some young adult series are:

-Jedi Apprentice (before Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan as an apprentice)
-Jedi Quest (post Phantom Menace, Anakin as apprentice)
    -Boba Fett (young Boba Fett)
-Young Jedi Knights and Junior jedi Knights (two decades after Return of the Jedi, Han-Leia's kids as apprentices)

Stay away from the X-Wing series for a little while, because there are several sexual and violent scenes in the book that are probably not suited for his age. (God, it hurt to say that.)

The Young Jedi Knights series would probably be the best, they're written for a younger age level and are not terribly long.
