BTW, I have a laptop that I can't get anything bigger than a floppy disk off of and it reboots whenever it feels like it, problem is tat it has my Adobe software on it. Any way I can get that off?

 

PC I'm guessing.

is it running off battery or off mains power?

Windows XP?

floppy disc eh? do you have the adobe discs still?

will it take a USB drive?

 

Runs off main power as the battery is completely dead. And it's 98.

It will take USB but usually I need a driver

And I still have the adobe disk. but they're packed away. I may the unpackaged disk somewhere on the computer actually.

Edit: Er, that was to the F day of the week post. Gee you guys posted an awful lot of stuff in between when I hit the reply button and then when I hit the post button...

 

Myself, I'd try and get all your documents/photos/music/etc... off the machine and the figure out what's causing the restart. Might be a windows thing. Could be bad memory. I've had a few machines in the past restart due to a memory leak. it's that cheap welsh RAM they use.. Can't expect much from welsh other then leeks.....

ok it was a bad joke.

if you can get your docs off and have all the discs you need to reinstall software I'd go with a erase and rebuild.

may be worth checking the ram should the problem continue

 

I can't, I don't have a USB drive that works with it anymore and the CD drive is stuffed. There's no CD burner either.

 

in that case the only other option I can think of is take the hard drive out and put it in a external caddy.

plug it into another computer and copy the data off that way.


failing that there's always a few spells that can be performed.

Chicken bones, shrunken heads, chanting.

it doesn't work but makes people look at you funny

great way to confuse people at work

 

another option is you can go basil fawlty on it

as a last option.

you may want to try removing the drive and getting/borrowing a external case before getting to this point

although if you get to this point I'd suggest taking a video of it.

nope didn't avoid it. got back from Sydney and within a day I was struck down with it.
