Yes... i was joking about ending my own project, KQ looks amazing because it has a budget... mine wont but i am doing mine because i want to make something. i'm doing it for fun... boy does fun have to be so much work?!!?!?!

when i started my project i was in England, i wrote my script in under a month, i had two borrowed digital cameras, several professional actors and martial artists and CG artists... i worked at the Barbican Centre at the Art of Star Wars Exhibition, so i had access to some amazing people and things...

I just emigrated to the US and i know no one and have no contacts... and even though there are AMAZING movies like this one coming out, i am not put off... it is my dream and "i will teach him..." whoops i mean.. I Will make it.

    Wow. Shot in 16mm.
How did they transfer to digital?
(I used to work for a company that made digital camera systems for transferring 16mm film to digital. I think we sold the camera alone for like $50k and then it got installed into a bigger machine.)

Either way, my 5-year-old Hi8 camcorder is from a long time ago and a galaxy far far away compared to what they're using.

    Have fun.

Don't give up on your project just because KnightQuest looks so good. Instead of trying to beat these people at their own game, try to do something different.

My film for next summer won't be a lightsaber duel or have any CG, unlike the film I'm currently working on.

Next year's film will be a shooting spree in a restaurant. Two bounty hunters will try to kidnap a general when he's on vacation, dining at a fancy restaurant. The general will have anticipated this, bringing undercover escort. When the bounty hunters enter, a shooting spree erupts.

Do something unusual like that. Instead of beating them at their own game, beat them at a different game.

I don't know how they did it, but if I was Joe I would've had the thing developed and, instead of printing a positive, transfered to D1 or 24pHD. I'd then rent or borrow a deck and firewire the thing. That would work out to be the same or a little less than printing a positive.

Keep in mind though, these guys are working with high end digital cams and professional actors/actresses. As such, it BETTER be awesome!!!
    To quote Mr. Monroe:

    Quote:

It is important that people don't think we are pros because then they will expect KQ to be as good as the real Star Wars films. And I'll be the first to say it, hell, I've BEEN saying it since day one, KQ is not as good as the real films. It's not. It's a fanfilm.

Hellix, does your browser support ftp links? If not, you may need to right-click and "save as"...

If that doesn't work, try this one instead. Same file, different server (though I've had trouble with that one before...)

    Oops. Sorry.
Some how from the actor/actress interviews I got the idea that they were very active in stage and screen work.

    Bad padawanNick. Bad! :(

    Sorry. Again.

::Crawls into basement with Hi8 camcorder to film in front of blue table cloth.::

    Have fun.

KnightsQuest and Duality are still in a league of their own for creating SW realism in Fanfilms. Respectable Employ is another fan film to watch and it deserves mention here as we can expect great things from these guys once they can lay their hands on some professional equipment!

The Saber Effects look great and the fight choreography looks good too, but I have two questions.

Why is the lightsaber showdown in the middle of the woods?

Why does every fan film have to have 2 or 3 jedi that somehow survived the "great purge?"

This contradicts the whole premise of the original SW movies. The Jedi were wiped out. The only ones left, were Yoda, Obi-Wan, Luke, Leia. Also, why do the "jedi" in the fanfilms have to be 20 years old, when in ANH, Obi-Wan was like in his 60's. It makes no sense.

Why does not somebody make something that does NOT have fake jedi and lightsabers in it?

If every fan film must have a lightsaber and a jedi, why not make a movie that pre-dates ANH and/or the prequels? After all, the Jedi ruled for what, 10,000 years, before the Empire came along.

    Just a "crazy" idea.

Also, I figured out WHY there are only 3 standard lightsaber colors; the reason is, the other colors (yellow/purple/pink) look gay. I am certain Somebody at Lucasfilm tried all of the colors, before settling on the current colors.

Ooooo, uh, James? You are new, right? Trying to make yourself known? I understand. But, um, well... I think maybe you're going about it the wrong way. Its common etiquette to READ a bit a of a group before... Doing what you just did.

    Just a thought....

Let me answer some of the questions posted earlier.

    1. It's in the middle of the woods because that's the best location they could find to shoot their film.

    2. About the great purge: fan films don't have to establish continuity with one another. Fan films are like the Infinitives books, where anything goes.

    3. It is possible that a couple of Jedi may have escaped the great purge, only to be hunted down a few years later.

    4. Desert Duel has no Jedi or lightsabers.

    5. Most fan films are set well before the TPM era, or not in continuity at all, so they can use Jedi all they want.

    6. I know the purple lightsaber color will be used by Lucasfilm, not because he wants to tell everyone that there are more lightsaber colors than red, green, and blue, but because one of the actors really wanted purple.

    A couple things:

    1. No one, and I repeat NO ONE should stop making their film because of KQ or Duality or whatever the next film that gets everyone excited comes down the pike. This is not a competition. You should be making your film for YOU, whether you're testing your skills as a future fimmaker or just having fun. Don't be intimidated by fools like me that spent all thier money on their "fanfilm."

    2. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm taking license with a line Obi-wan said in ANH, and I quote: "Now the Jedi are all but extint." (sp) Read that again and tell me that doesn't open up the chance of a few other Jedi surviving. He never said it was only himself and Yoda. It wasn't until ROTJ when Yoda told Luke, "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be." And that's about 6 years after KQ. Alot can happen in that time.

That's my take on it. I'm looking at it...from a certain point of view.

The music is from First Knight (from the end battle sequence)

And hey, if the official continuity novels can have Jedi (or Jedi hopefuls) that survived the purge (they pop up all over the place), then so can fan films.

Besides, as much as we want to believe that Jedi are all knowing and wise, they aren't. That is what Episode I showed us, the truth behind the legend that we had come to believe as the Jedi. The Jedi were believed to be legends the same way John Wayne and James Dean are thought of as legends. Yoda knows allot, but he doesn't know everything and neither does Obi-Wan.

The reason that they are probably young kids is because they were raised as Jedi after the purge. I imagine that Ulic, much like Obi-Wan was trying to traing the next generation of Jedi to save the galaxy.

Joe, I think you may be a little harsh on yourself, by calling yourself a fool for spending the amount of money you have.

I remember once you said you made KQ because films is what you wanted to do as a career (at least I think that is what you said), well, I don't think you realise the amount of publicity that you have got through this gig, and I'm sure that you will get a few people watching from the powers that be; someone will take notice of what you have put into making the film, and something probably will come of it.

If you really felt that you were a fool for doing it, then I don't think you would be releasing it at all, do you? I think you should give yourself a little more credit.

The way I see it, you will only really be judged on whether it was a foolish move, is after it is released, and only then can you say "Yay" or "Nay".

I have faith in your project, and I think you will come off better than you realise!

    [aussie]Go for gold, son![/aussie]

KQ looks very promising. I think you're putting your film down because you want to lower people's expectations. The film looks very promising, and the effects work is second only to high-end professional films.

I want to watch Knightquest so badly. I can't wait. I only hope it's up to the level of Duelity and Duel of the Fakes.
