How about a little quiz so that we can all become an 'ickle more knowledgable about this northern kingdom of ours on our beautiful 'ickle island? (say that after 20 sherberts :p )

Ok, the idea is to post a question about anything to do with the North, be it geography/history/science/politics/entertainment. The next person to post should try and answer the question, and don't start a new question until the last one has been answered (the person who gets it right should start a new one, unless they don't want to, and so then pass it on to someone else). That way we may get a better feeling for the land we live in. Freely use any source you want to in order to answer the question (Google included). I'll start ...

Q: What Celtic tribe lived in the area now known as Cumbria when the Romans first gained control of our country? (note: this tribe was part of a much larger group, so you can give both names if you want)

    We have a winner!!!

Yep Lord-Wiz, that was the group, though they were part of the much larger group called the Brigantes (so I was going to allow that answer too).

Lord_Ogli, I think you were thinking "Icenii", who's Queen was Boudicca ;)

Lord-Wiz, your turn on a question if you want to :D

I think you are gonna have to tell us jedi_master_booth lol! Lord's aren't in my field of knowledge tbh.

Q: Meols is an old name that appears I believe in several places in Northern England. Where is the name from (ie what culture) and what does it mean? I will tell you where the places are when you answer ;)

i think the name Meols comes from the viking word for sand banks or sand dunes.

therefore i think it means "sand banks/dunes" and is from the viking culture originally.

 Got it one, in Southport where I live, the old part is known as North Meols, and in the Wirral there is a town called Meols. I am sure there are places called Meols on the NE coast too.

If you have a question, Wiz, please post one away :D

    Her husband was Prasutagus ;)
When faced with defeat at the hands of the Romans, Boudicca took her own way out by drinking poison in a Chalice. Or so the BBC website says (I need to read some of the books on her) :p
