For the first time in...well, ever, perhaps, the most anticipated of console RPG sequels may not be a Japanese game. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 could be as big or bigger than any Final Fantasy, and the next issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly will be the first place you can see it.
Knights of the Old Republic 2 will be revealed in the June issue of EGM, as part of a split cover story with Computer Gaming World. Be sure to check out both issues -- hitting stands in late April -- for the full story on the latest production from Obsidian Entertainment and LucasArts.

1UP, of course, will also endeavor to deliver the goods in timely fashion. Look forward to it.

I like being an EGM subscriber.

 

Oh, believe me, I sort of know from Tales of the Jedi. (Terrific stuff, BTW, and it's heartily recommended that all you folks reading this who haven't yet checked out the trade paperback collections do so. Particularly the final series, Redemption.)

However, during the course of the game, you hear people mention that Malak and Revan defeated their Sith predecessors in order to gain their "Dark Lord" titles, not to mention that there were indeed Sith who persuaded the Mandalorians to launch their war against the Republic years earlier, *after* the Exar Kun war ended. Which means that there were undoubtedly people in control at that time, almost certainly lords.

Good mention, though, about the TOTJ comics, and again, one may pick them up at virtually any bookstore, if you've the means. (I'd recommend starting with the collection entitled Tales of the Jedi: Knights of the Old Republic...not the game itself, but the origin-point for most of the stories set in this historical period of the Star Wars universe.)

 

I played KOTOR 1 religously too, I love that game. My only hope that KOTOR 2 is Multiplayer!!! If its not ill have to Force Choke someone!!!!!!!!!! KOTOR has such multiplayer potential, wiht a dungeon master sort of thing like in NWN.

That's never going to happen.

(1) It's bad business for LucasArts. For massively multiplayer online gaming (non-action) you already have Galaxies, and for massively multiplaying gaming (action) you'll have Battlefront. KOTOR multiplayer would bring nothing new to the table.

(2) KOTOR's strength comes from its characters and the plot. That's what is so great about it. In multiplayer, there are neither of those.

Ferrago.com reports that Bioware "[has] affirmed that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 is in development ... [and] that the sequel will be developed by Obsidian under the ever-watchful eye of LucasArts."
They go on to say that the game will be "officially unveiled in the June issues of EGM and Computer Gaming World stateside; both of which hit shelves in late April".

I want to reprint this here, because the other thread will probably sink soon enough. It's about what I want to see in KOTOR 2:

I was just reading KOTOR fanfics, and I thought of something else.

MORE ROMANCE OPTIONS!

I don't just want to be able to fall in love with one character! I like choices, damn it! I'd love to have a chance at romance with the other female characters besides Bastila. Perhaps Bastila could've gotten together with one of the other party members, if your PC is a female. Or maybe you can turn her lesbian, or turn Juhani straight again as a male. The possibilities are endless.

This idea partially stems from an idea previously expressed in this thread that I really like -- the idea of party characters' morality and loyalty being altered throughout the game, and perhaps even spies joining your party as playable characters. Screw Malak -- imagine corrupting Bastila to the dark side yourself. I wouldn't do it except to see the dialogue and ending, but it would undoubtedly bring smiles to a great many players.

Regardless of what they do in KOTOR 2, however, I have this to say about the first one: Vive la Carth/Revan!

I'd also like to see more options regarding the Ebon Hawk, or whatever craft they have us use. Fighting Sith fighters got pretty annoying after a while -- why not have us fight escort carriers and Sith destroyers, too? Why not engage in big-ass fleet battles yourself?

Why not engage in big-ass fleet battles yourself?

Look in the Dictionary Under 'RPG'.

Then look up 'Space Simulation'

The short Sith Interceptor sections were just Mini-games to make the game a little bit more interesting, and that's all they were. There'd be very little point having an RPG game dominated by Space Sim elements.
