Is he still alive in Legends? Or is he gone?

 

He's still alive in Fate of the Jedi and (I think) Crucible a year or so later - the last novel (chronologically).

The Legacy comics begin 100-odd years after that - he's almost certainly dead by that point - I don't think any of Luke's Jedi appeared in flashback scenes featuring the fall of the Jedi to Krayt's Sith.

 

Ah. Maybe he died of old age then.

I loathe that. Seriously, seriously hate that. That damned hat guy and the tree lady from the ****ing Clone Wars era are alive, but none of Luke's students? I have no words... that are able to be posted on these boards.

 

In Young Jedi Knights: Jedi Under Siege, one of Luke's students is a female living tree.

Maybe she's T'ra Saa - who has not yet revealed her true identity to Luke because she needs some time to assess him first?

 

I'm a little curious about the founding of the Dozen-And-Two Avengers - even wookieepedia doesn't go into much detail.

Are they military or paramilitary?

If they're military - then it might have been a case of "Kyp goes to the New Republic Navy - gets sanction to found a squadron - recruits a variety of pilots, with different ships". It would also mean he has superiors in the Navy to answer to.

But if they're paramilitary, it might be a case of "When various New Republic pilots retired, some were allowed to take their (elderly) ships with them - Kyp went to those retired pilots and talked them into joining his organization and bringing their ships with them".

(not all of Kyp's pilots would be military - but a large number would, under these two versions).

In the newcanon, Poe Dameron's mother took her A-wing with her when she retired, and he grew up flying it (beginning piloting it at the age of 6).



Maybe the Legendsverse had something similar, with retired pilots keeping their ships?

I know Kevin? Like, I've been his personal assistant before, had conversations about Kyp, been to lunch with him, saw him just a couple weeks ago, did the "long time no see" thing. Almost took him and Rebecca drinking once, too, but plans got kriffed up.

How did he come up with Kyp's character?

 

We've actually never talked about that. It's been a few years since I've been able to sit down and talk to him. I know Dave Wolverton, too. He's a friend of my dad's. I also know Janine Spendlove, who is a new Star Wars author (and is good friends with Mike Stackpole and knew Aaron Allston very well). I've known Janine since '98, incidentally, when she lived a few blocks away.

As for military vs paramilitary, they're paramilitary somewhat, though they were formed with whatever donated ships they could get their hands on originally. When they were reformed as Kyp's Dozen after Borleias, they were given X-Wings by Starfighter Command and taken on somewhat officially, though they existed somewhat outside the main structure, like Twin Suns Squadron led by Jaina Solo and Vanguard Squadron (Hapan volunteers and Chiss) led by Jagged Fel. When Kyp became a council member, that brought his squadron under the purview of the Jedi rather than NRSFC.

 

Even Frozen Kyper is still hot!

 

It'd be nice if he showed again.
