Don't give any of that "from a certain point of view" crap. It was unjustified in the movie and it's unjustified in real life as well. It is your duty as an American citizen to do this and do it right whenever it comes up. If you're apathetic about government, that's no excuse to screw over the ordinary people you're not serving on a jury for. And "they'll find enough people anyway" isn't an excuse either, and is really the same problem why voter turnout is so consistently abysmally low compared to e amount of eligible citizens in the country.

If you're mad about the way the government is handling things then do your part to make things better. Saying "I'm worthless" and indulging in your self-pity is not justified. If you truly think you are worthless, do something to make yourself worthwhile.

I'm sorry but this attitude frustrates me to no end.

Some places they'll issue arrest warrants.

It might be a cool case at least?

We'll have to agree to disagree, then, ZAP. I do vote, though & I will be going this time for duty.

Good to know, and all this time I was wondering if you were WANTING to be locked away and have a sex starved cellmate with a raging case of herpes.

Called the jury duty number earlier on my lunch break........got them to switch the court I'm supposed to report to from Beverly Hills to Van Nuys (right here in the Valley). Thus, tomorrow, I will (finally) go to jury duty. :p

I just arrived here at the jury assembly room...........didn't expect a bank of computers with access to the internets. :p No access to Facebook (got my BlackBerry for that, though), and no ability to copy & paste things. Also, for some reasons all the smilies here are blocked.

Hm, in Anaheim they just had WiFi so we could bring our own computers. Have fun sitting in the room all day.

Pretend to doze off. When they call your name, 'wake up' all startled, and jump up and shout 'Guilty!'.

I wonder if the video introducing you to jury duty is/was the same, because that was quite a hoot. Also, I seemed to have struck some luck here: according to a clerk, there was 8 cases on the docket yesterday, with 110+ people in the waiting room. Today: 1 case, only 11 other people in here with me.

Er, don't those numbers mean you will definitely serve on the case....?

The clerk mentioned that the judge may need backup jurors, and that's all their looking for today. So it's doubtful (hopefully) that a lot of us would actually be called in.

At about 9:20am (after watching the jury duty video), we were told we'd been on break until 10am. It's almost 11, and we're still on break. [face_plain]

The day is over! Got called in at about 2:20pm to face a judge & lawyers (a murder case they were handling). After answering some questions, I & several others got dismissed. w00t! :D Over all, it was an OK experience. Still a horrible bore (even with the internet access, because even after awhile that got tiresome), though. 2 things that especially got my attention:

    1) When we entered the small courtroom, the judge asked me to take my hat off, but didn't mind the fact that I wore my sunglasses the entire I was in there. I figured it would go the other way around.

2)The waiting room was plastered with posters such as this:

Do Vegas jury rooms have pictures of casino acts in them? Do the courts in Forks, Washington have pictures of Twilight on their walls? Good grief.
    :p

A lot of the time when out in public (particular when I attend events at the Staples Center, as those bright arena lights really bother my eyes), yes.

I got jury duty in January. My boss will have a mental breakdown if I get selected. I wonder if that's a legit reason for nonselection.

Isn't there supposed to be a gap (6-12 months I think) before your summoned again for jury duty? I'm calling on Monday to straighten this **** out.

There isn't enough space here for me to post about how much I really, really hate the L.A. city/county government.
