    Star Wars Sonnet

The Force is something that cannot be seen.
Its powers can be felt and used by few.
This gift can be had by both good and mean.
The Force is with Ben, Luke, and Leia too.

These three were rebels, fighting for the
    good.
    To over-throw the evil Empire.
Their goal was to restore peace as it
    should.
But that was not Darth Vader's desire.

The fighting went on for several years.
Our heros continued their quest for peace.
The Empire brought many fears and tears.
The strong Rebels knew the war had to
    cease.

The lightside had triumphed once and for all.
And that marked the corrupt Empire's fall.

A thank-you goes to my teacher Ms. Rebecca Bly, who gave me the assignment of writing a sonnet for freshman English, a sonnet which became this.

    *********************************************

This is my first piece of fan fiction posted on theforce.net and my 5th fan fic ever. Gone But Not Forgotten is a vignette written through the eyes of an Alderaanian, reflecting on the loss of Alderaan.

    Gone But Not Forgotten

    Alderaan is gone...
In one swift and brilliant green light,
    they were taken away.
My life will be forever changed.
My friends and family are dead, my home is ashes.
    Whom shall I blame?
    The Empire? The Rebels?
It does not matter now; it cannot change the past.

Soft voices speak, in unison, of out of thin air:
"We are gone; however, we are all but forgotten.
Though we are not with you physically, our soul remains forever by your side.
Nor can any being destroy memories, kept safe in your heart, nor can they destroy the visuals stored in your mind.
Now do not be discouraged, for as long as the Force remains, we will be with you.
So go now and build a new life, but know that although Alderaan and her people are gone, they will never be loss or forgotten."

Wow! Nice stuff! I really liked the poetic style of the first part. :)

Though we are not with you physically, our soul remains forever by your side.
Nor can any being destroy memories, kept safe in your heart, nor can they destroy the visuals stored in your mind.

Haunting turn of phrase there. Interesting to see the view of someone from Alderaan other than Leia. They don't care who is to blame, just that it's gone.

When do we get to see your next fic. LadtRebel?

Thank you for dropping by, and such nice comments :)
    I enjoy writing poetry.
I tried to write it realistically; it was written through the eyes of someone who's witnessed and mourned a large devastation and loss, 9/11 has had a large impact on me.
I realize that with grieving, blame and revenge may ease the pain, but it will never bring back the deceased.
On the second part, I tried to make it sound as if those deceased were speaking from within the Force.
I may have a Star Wars sonnet comming. Keep checking back (Edit: it has been added).

That was so beautiful, so sad. It was very well-written, ladyrebel.

Did I read this at SOTJ?

    Kristeh,

"That was so beautiful, so sad. It was very well-written, ladyrebel."

    Thank you!

"Did I read this at SOTJ?"

Probably not, this is the only place I've posted it.

Edit: Author's Note: This is similiar to Alderaan Rising. I had read Alderaan Rising before writing this, but am not sure my inspiration came from it. But anyways, thanks Cat

That was simply beautiful. It reminded me of a quote by Heather Graham.

"Enjoy who you are. Don't hate yourself for what you aren't."

You see, your passage is about the people on Alderaan getting blown up and talking to -Leia?-, but she feels sad because she thinks she has lost everything and it's her fault that the planet was blown up, when in truth she should be happy that happened because nobody on the planet was in pain anymore. I mean, she might not be happy, but you know what I mean! lol Anywho, GREAT VIGGIE!!!

    That's a good and inspirational quote :)

That's one way of looking at it :)
My intent was to make the main character fit to be any Alderaanian, not just Leia.

Thank you for stopping by and for your comments :)

Oh, and I like your quote in your signature, "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."- Moulin Rouge

Your poetry is impressive... I love it. I never even thought about SW poetry until you posted on Reachout, but now I realize it's a wonderful kind of writing. I love poetry generally, and your works are especially nice! Good job, and from what I see you're doing the right thing! Most people probably haven't accepted the idea vignette and poetry archive yet... but they'll come around!

    PadmeSolo,
Thank you for your kind compliments about my poetry. They mean a lot to me.
I know some Star Wars fanfiction websites do have a poetry section or vignette section, but usually there isn't a lot archived. I think you're right, maybe a lot of people just haven't caught onto the idea of Star Wars poetry yet. Thank you again.
