    Bidders anyone?

    http://www.askaprice.com/torque-article.asp?article=Star_Wars_Landspeeder_replica_for_sale&item=1341

    [image=http://www.askaprice.com/images/news/inhouse/1341-03.jpg]

Your eyes are not deceiving you. There really is a ´fully driveable´ replica Star Wars Landspeeder currently on sale on Ebay. As Luke Skywalker once quipped "They´re just not in demand since the XP-38 came out!"

This running replica of the Star War Landspeeder was built by a professional movie and concept car builder, and is based on a 1988 Ford [compare Ford prices] Escort donor.

Actually licensed in California, the seller has driven it on the Hollywood Freeway for a photo opportunity outside the famous Chinese Theatre on Hollywould Boulevard.

Although the log book states you have an Escort, left hand drive import with body kit, it certainly doesn´t look like one.

According to the seller, its not been done in a ´factory fresh´ style but made to reflect the idea that it has been in use in the desert for decades. It has blue underlighting to give it the impression of floating, plus all the parts needed to put a vapour propane flame-thrower into the centre jet!

If you´ve got £8,000 going spare, the force can be with you. Probably the Police Force if you take it out on the road, but it might well be worth it.

Shipping that from the UK would be rediculously expensive. Heck, a few bobbleheads which aren't very large or heavy, cost $100 to ship here.

Similar to one that was on EBay about 6 months ago from the Sacramento area. That one had a price of $1,000 and was built on a golf cart frame. If I had had the money then..... And it was a no sale!

I sold my New Mexico house... *sob* *sniff*... so I can afford this guilty pleasure. I got a deal on it too, I didn't pay full price. The gentleman didn't care really, he is happy to have gotten a deal on his new home he is buying, and could pass the saving on to a fellow fan. Interesting guy really, he's in a band and they play wearing stormtrooper armor. He is good friends with the people at Elstree who worked on the original movies too. Besides, I can make all my money back on it by renting it back to Elstree studios for their Jedi Training program with Nick Gillard. I was planning to fly out for that anyway. Plus the people who made the original landspeeder for Star Wars are going to make it more accurate, and I'll get pics of them at Elstree working on it. They are the same people who worked on the original R2 and they will be making R2s and selling them as well, but an R2 from them costs twice as much as a working car... so... I went with the landspeeder which is already licensed in CA and is street legal (no hassle for me at all). It would be nice to have it for the 4th of July parade or Comic Con, and the Fanboys premiere, but then I wouldn't be able to make my money back on it. I will talk to Shawn Crosby and see what he thinks about shipping it here now, or waiting for Elstree to finish working on it and renting it back to them. If I left it with them for a year to use, I'd have all the money back and the landspeeder would be for free... plus they have some big publicity events and promotions going on in the UK this year that they wanted it there for as well. Of course now I have to get a threepio to put in the back of it. Maybe I'll have them do that over there. Too much to think about right now. Its not a club bus, but how many clubs have a landspeeder? ;) I like the droid Elstree is selling right now too... but it costs more than the car!

OMG Linda!!!! Ok, I want a ride. After all Kenobi DID ride in the landspeeder..right! ;) :D I mean I'll even do the (gulp) Alec version just to ride in it LOL.

But congratulations. Hey, we all have our moments..I'm glad you were able to have yours.

Now for that Nick Jedi Training thing...let me know..cause I would give my eye teeth to work/train with him. And with the small inheritance, I just might be able to work things out. [face_praying]

    Congrates again,

    Kim

(Envious as all get out!) :D

    You only live once.

Grab it while you can. Besides if that money was sitting in a bank you'd just be making some slimy banker more rich everyday.

    SPEND IT NOW.

Well the only problem was the cost of shipping it here, but after talking to the guy, turns out that won't be a problem if I use an American company all the way. It only gets expensive when you use UK companies to transport. I only have to hire someone to drive the car to the dock. And it sounds like Elstree wants to rent the car, so if I leave it there awhile, I will recoup quite a bit of that money. I'll probably at least leave it over there for the Jedi Training days with Nick Gillard, and get Nick to sign the car.

Of course you can be Obi-wan Kim... I was thinking we need a Luke ANH and an Obi-wan in the club now. Of course I need a threepio for the back seat as well. LOL

The only thing I don't like about buying the landspeeder, is that the San Francisco Fanforce is now going to call me 11G instead of 10G. *sigh* Private joke, they've called me that since the Skywalker Ranch trip last year. LOL

Linda, Linda, Linda. We wouldn't call you such things. ;) Anyway, I'm sure as Dale finds out, he'll be ironing out his Luke ANH costume for ComicCon. Someone up here has the Threepio costume, so we're all set! Congrats on the buy, and as Kevin Smith signed a photo to Steve Sansweet, "You have way too much disposable income!" :) What am I talking about? I'd probably do the same thing (but save up for a Falcon!). So will you get stopped by sandtroopers if you try to take it into Mexico? :)

More info please on the Nick Gilliard thing, too. [face_thinking]

Nope, I don't have any disposable income. Just a house I disposed of because I couldn't afford to pay two mortgages any longer. Buying this is making me feel a "little" better about losing the house, not much, but a little. I eventually want to have another home in New Mexico one day as I just LOVE it over there. Speaking of Kevin Smith, I missed him as he was on the set of Fanboys Monday, and I had to fly back Sunday night... darn it! Oh well, I'll see him at Comic Con I'm sure and have him sign the car. LOL Oh, and I'm sponsoring Kevin Rubio (Troops fame) and one of his brothers as an honorary member into the 501st, and will present him with his plaque at the comic con 501st dinner. If I have the car by then, I'll have Kevin Rubio sign it as well. I am seriously considering letting them keep it at Elstree though until the end of the Jedi Lightsaber training days.

Matt wanted more info about the Jedi Lightsaber training days. Nick Gillard is going to be instructing people at Elstree to fight with lightsabers just as he taught the actors in the movies. Nick already has approval from Rick McCallum to do it, they just need to get the official paperwork completed. They don't have the dates yet, but again, it will be at Elstree studios in the UK. I was planning to fly over there anyway for it. For £550 (about $1,000) you get your own lightsaber made by Elstree studios, you get trained for 1 full day by Nick Gillard who will give out various awards to the participants. Nick will also sign the saber which you get to keep. It will also be broadcast on TV, I think only in the UK, cause if it is being broadcast in the US, I'll just be there as an observer, to observe the cost is 50 pound which is less than $100. The class will be held on the exact same stage area where Ben Kenobi battled Darth Vader in ANH. ;) I think I need to have Dan teach me a few moves before that. While I don't mind embarrassing myself that much on UK tv, I don't want to embarrass myself THAT much. No dates announced yet.

    Well I am going to be doing it either way I would be daft not to considering I do not live very far from the studios 8-}
Yes it will be broadcast on uk tv (sky one) but believe me you will not make yourself look stupid cause there are worse progams on tv here.

Anyway shhhh do not say too much about it on the 501st boards or anything cause more than likely the uk garrison will fill all the spaces up if they catch onto this event.

I found out about the landspeeder through Matt - congrats on your purchase Linda! If you are able to rent it back to recoup your costs that's even better.

I hope we'll get to see it on display one of these days :)

Congratulations Linda. I was looking at that yesterday and thought how cool it would be to have. At least it will be close by and allowing them to rent it will pay the cost. Good deal all the way around especially if they do more work.

Don't forget that Barry will also want ot ride in it when it gets here. He already has Ben's robes out and ready to go.:D And he will go a couple of days without triming the beard to give it the 'Old Ben' look which is not as neat as Dooku's beard.

    Again, congratulations.

I was told it is street legal. It was registered as an 88 Ford Escort in CA as recently as 5 months ago, its just had some special modifications done to it. ;) It can go freeway speeds and beyond.

This sure is the most unusual ebay deal I've done yet. Instead of paying the guy directly, I've bought him an ambulance like the kind they use in Ghostbusters for Ecto 1, and a "General Lee" type car from the Dukes of Hazzard. He is also getting a Batmobile too (on his own, not because of this deal).

Am I insane? Why do people keep emailing me and asking me that? LOL

Ohhhh the Ecto 1 (drool) one of my "dream cars." Seriously..no really. I knew someone who was part of a Ghostbusters group in LA who had an Ecto 1, same ambulance, beautifully recreated. It was so much fun to ride down Hollywood Blvd in that thing. You just felt so...Ghostbustery. :D

    Wow Linda!

I had to blink twice and rattle my brain when I saw your name as the winning bidder!

    WOW!

Congrats!!! The only problem with these things is that they go really fast across desert landscapes in a straight line, but can only turn left!

    WOW!
