I have to admit, I wasn't terribly excited for this show until I happened to see his segment on Dr Oz and the supplement industry (shown here). After 16 minutes of an almost immaculately-presented, thoroughly-researched, comical, and (astonishingly) very educational segment; I'm absolutely a fan. After watching all available episodes, I think what I discovered I like so much about him is that at times, his bits often resemble actual investigative journalism, albeit with more penis-jokes and cuss-words. I was also impressed by the fact that he allegedly has a former investigative journalist as his fact-checker for the show, who apparently has something of veto power for whether or not they can run something, based on its truthfulness. Anywho, just curious to know what you guys/gals think?
Been very impressed with the show- as you say, it starts off as a brief Daily Show spin-off but then segues into what is basically investigative journalism- often becoming more informative than actual news (even more so than what TDS and TCR managed to accomplish). The recent segment on payday loans is a great example of this that really makes it obvious. Never even heard of these things before, but now at least I know to stay the hell away from them (1700% interest? Holy crapballs, that's evil).
I liked his Daily Show run but he definitely seems more comfortable without the pressure of filling Stewart's role.
