Well, that is true, she won't be playing Mara Jada. That was an EU/Legends character. She can however, still be playing Rey's mom/Luke's old flame...a brand new character.

Daisy also bears some resemblance to the actress who played Shmi (sorry, forget her name).

 

Remember when people thought that Gleeson would play Luke`s son? That turned out... well.

 

Exactly my thoughts. Clearly Daisy was cast due to her resemblance to the performers who have portrayed the Skywalkers through the years. That means no resemblance to whomever would play Rey's blood mother is needed.

You know she does bear a slight resemblance to both Mon Mothma actresses particularly Caroline Blackiston.

I expect we're doing our usual thing though and trying to find connections where there are none.

It'll more than likely be a new character and neither Luke's wife or Rey's mother.

 

Oh, I totally acknowledge that the first possibility that comes to mind is Rey's mom, but after all the TFA casting speculation (like Domhnall playing Luke's son), I just like to wonder about what other possibilities there could be. Also briefly wondered Evaan Verlaine but doubt it.

 

People thinking that she's playing Luke's wife are in for a big disappointment. Needley to say, Rey won't turn out to be Luke's kid.

 

She's a Skywalker, one way or another.

 

Watching Agent Carter the other day I thing Daisy has a resemblance to Hayley Atwell....could Rey have an elder sister?

Anyway back to Laura Dern, could she just be playing a NR politician? If she's Rey's mother I can see Rey having another Force-vision of her deceased mother.

 

I don't think she is either but I would not say it with arrogance, all it takes is a swish of pen. Anything can happen.

 

Biggest pleasant surprise. Also, the hardest for me to pin down. Like Del Toro: quite a bit of range. Can play all sorts of characters.

I hope isn't just some sort of political though. I doubt though its an action heavy role. Could be wrong though.

 

Hmmm, it seems quite likely that Laura Dern's character is a Skywalker, potentially Luke's wife... Or otherwise, she may end up being some commander of the remnants of the New Republic fleet, looking at payback against the First Order for wiping out the Hosnian Prime system.
