ST Laura Dern (Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo) in TLJ

Can't wait to see what role she has in the Saga.

 

Love the casting. Obviously enjoyed her in Jurassic Park (My intro to her) but also liked her in October Sky. I've not seen much else though.

 

Oh excuse me, let me edit to add I PREDICT at the beginning of my post so there's no confusion.

 

Just because she's female doesn't mean she's automatically Luke's wife. And I didn't think she was that great in Jurassic Park, imo. Cliched acting.

I'm thinking more Snoke's wife.

 

She'll be the new head of the Republic. Someone to give Leia and the Resistance grief - or aid, as the case may be.

 

Do none of you watch movies other than giant blockbusters? It's like no one has ever seen or heard (she's also a voice actor) her in anything but Jurassic Park. No David Lynch fans? Did you all miss Wild last year? The Master, Rambling Rose, Mask?

 

Could she by the rumored female Sith for VIII? I can't see it, but it could be a possibility.

 

Hard to fathom Laura Dern becoming a villain, after the good characters she's played all these years (notably Jurassic Park)... I'm going with her being either Luke's as yet unknown wife or the leader of some New Republic fleet (whatever is left of it anyway).

She was phenomenal in Blue Velvet too! Still need to go back and check out her performance in Inland Empire!

 

Glad to see Laura Dern in VIII! Along with Jurassic Park I and III, she was good in Blue Velvet as well

Cannot wait to see Laura Dern. She's a wonderful actress. This is great news.

 

She was remarkable in Wild. I didn't care for the movie, but I thought she was excellent.

im surprised by this casting, i think its an interesting pick. casting someone like this would obviously attract the "Rey's MOOOM" camp and/or "Luke's WIIIFE" camp. so because of that, i think its unlikely. its really too open for the moment to nail it, but i am leaning towards some politically aligned character. someone who communicates and shares screen time with Leia, i hope im wrong and its something more substantial.

I don't even believe she'll be Luke's significant other, but of all the reasons it won't be that is the lamest.

 

You wish it were, but that's what Hollywood stars are usually most concerned about -- which is probably among the reasons Carrie Fisher was cast (shorter than Mark Hamill). I also don't think she'll be Luke's S.O., BTW. I don't think Luke will have any.

 

If that were true then Tom Cruise would never have a leading lady in any of his films.

 

Ugh, a great actress is cast and straight away she is reduced to the role of being someone's love interest or wife.

I hope she will be a character we aren't expecting. Maybe someone on the dark side, she could totally pull that off.

I loved her as Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park, she was everything Claire in Jurassic World should have been and more besides!

 

Operative word is "usually". Tom Cruise appears to be one of the exceptions as he certainly loves his women tall -- his three wives have all been taller than him.
