Whatever the case, it doesn't change the fact that all writers will be working off the same treatment.

Says who? It actually makes perfect sense, because that's very much how things work in the film industry. There are two things that could have happened - one of which likely did - vis a vis the Sequel Trilogy's story treatment(s): Lucas gave Kathleen Kennedy his own treatments and notes on where he thought the ST ought to go. These treatments and notes were then shown to Arndt, who either wrote his own version(s) of them or began the process of directly building on what Lucas did.

Well Kasdan is taking over the role as producer so he pretty much has the same job as Rick Macullum or Gary Kurtz. Kathleen is the executive producer which is a different gig.

Maybe Kasdan will write again, maybe he will direct?

Bringing another producer from x-men might give credence to Vaughn.

Hey guys just read that Hollywood Reporter is saying this is a done deal. Not only will they write but both will be co-producing along with Kathleen.

So we really do have treatments for the entire trilogy... and that's actually pretty awesome. One of the problems with the PT was that Lucas hadn't thought out the whole thing before he starting filming TPM.

Also, it's really quite possible they're going to be filming movies back to back.

    I call bull****.

Why would they bring on Kasdan if they already hired Arndt to write the script? I think it can be safely assumed that whoever writes Episode VII is gonna write the other two as well. That's just how things are supposed to go, ideally. It's simpler and the best thing for the script.

Yeah okay we have multiple writers for the OT but lets look at it. Lucas penned ANH. But he put that through regular gang-bang critiques from his filmmaker friends. He had ALOT of help. When he decided writing was for the birds he hired Leigh Brackett to pen ESB. Brackett turned in her first draft then promptly croaked. Kasdan took over and produced a gem. He could have made lightening strike twice with ROTJ but Lucas' heavy hand came in and muddied things up by making drama killing decisions such as not killing Solo off and those ****ing Ewoks.

Disney will go with one guy a la Pirates of the Caribbean Movies. (Although there are two writers for Pirates but you know what I mean.)

Kasdan won't write anything for Star Wars unless Arndt gets ****-canned.

Edit: That word is not allowed.

George should of brought Kasdan and Kurtz in for the PT and just directed the 1st one then had his friends direct the other 2 (Spielberg and Coopala).

Looks like they are doing things right with the ST.

Lucas asked Kasdan to write the PT but Kasdan said no.

Well, you know, I actually love the overall story in the PT but even Lucas admits that the meat of the story was in ROTS and the rest was kind of vague.

Yes and they had a falling out with Kurtz after Empire because Kurtz wasn't doing his job properly.

    No it's not, at all.
Episode IV was written by George Lucas.
Episode V and VI were written by Kasdan.

I can name several more movie franchises, and many of the movies that have more than one writer. If anything, I wouldn't be shocked with an Arndt/Kasdan pair.

    1) Who says that a singular writer has to be responsible for scripting all 3 films?
    2) You're an idiot if you discount Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, especially THR. It's one of the most respected and reknowned 'trade papers' out there, and one which is incredibly well-connected and does not post information that has not been personally vetted and proven to be factual on every level.
    3) Can we stop with this 'Disney will/won't go with/do such and such' crap? For the last freaking time, the only involvement Disney is going to have in these films is distributing them; Lucasfilm, as a still-autonomous entity overseen by Kathleen Kennedy, is and will be the 'production studio' for the films, with Kennedy and the individuals she surrounds herself with (such as Kasdan and Kinberg) actually being the one responsible for 99.99999% of the decisions. Kathleen's bosses at Disney (such as Alan Horn and Bob Iger) might have some input, but it will be miniscule.

Something like that. Except that after Brackett wrote her draft and passed away, Lucas completely changed the story wrote his own draft, then hired Kasdan to rewrite it. And as you can look up, Kasdan's final script differs from Lucas' own version to only a small extent.

IIRC, it was Deadline and THR that reported Arndt would write the treatments for Episode VII. Just because he writes the treatments, doesn't mean he's the only writer.

Lucas wrote first drafts for both Empire and ROTJ. He was very involved in the process. I suspect he's only writing treatments at the most this time around.

@KED12345: As I said above, it does not appear as if there will be any co-writing on any of the films in the Sequel Trilogy. The news concerning Kasdan and Kinberg - as reported by Deadline and THR - is that they will split writing duties between Episodes VIII and IX, with the specific details concerning who will write which episode being TBD (to be determined) at the present time, and that, as per THR, they will also serve as producers on the trilogy along with Kathleen Kennedy.

Yes it was. Lucas got ALOT of help writing the script of ANH. He even consulted Joseph Campbell on it!

Leigh Brackett wrote the first draft of ESB then died from cancer:

    http://scyfilove.com/2259/read-leig...of-the-empire-strikes-backs-30th-anniversary/

Kasdan took over and wrote subsequent drafts of ESB. Lucas tried to change ESB but Kasdan Kershner and Kurtz fought against him to get Kasdans version of the story filmed and that's what we got.

And yes Kasdan solely wrote ROTJ (at least in the credits) but you can't watch that film and not see Lucas' filthy mitts all over it. Ewoks? Spare me. In Empire of Dreams Kasdan talks about wanting to kill off a main character (Solo) but being overruled by Lucas.

He had a fairly good idea what would happen in each film when he started working on TPM (he says so in the introduction to the OT VHS special edition). That's not true for the OT; he didn't know where the story was going when he started working in ANH, and he didn't when he started working on ESB.

AFAIK, Lucas and Campbell had never even met until after ROTJ. Furthermore, Lucas wrote uncredited drafts on ESB and shares screenwriting credit on ROTJ with Kasdan. gregvader123, you are wrong on many points.

It doesn't appear to you, you mean. There may very well be another writer working on Episode 7 with Arndt, and it may be Kasdan, we simply don't know any of the details.

But if Deadline and THR are reporting it, there's certainly some credibility to it. Why? They both reported Arndt would write Episode 7.
