Also, what shutter speed do you guys use on your DSLR's to get good motion blur for the lightsabers?

Bumper will be out soon, and I don't know about shutter speeds for a DSLR, we shot on RED.

Only one promo pic in this whole thread, how very dissatisfying.

Knowing your framerate will help here. Rule of thumb for shutterspeed is twice your framerate. So, if you're using a DSLR at 24fps, a shutterspeed of 48 would be used to help with getting proper exposure and focus. Also, those settings should get you motion blur similar to the movies.

However, Boter and I were using a camera without that option, so our 29.97fps footage was shot with a lower shutterspeed, closer to 30 instead of the default 60, which gave us some extra motion blur instead of crisp video.

Might film something this weekend. Choreograph and film on the spot, just so that I can actually submit an entry this year, (obviously without worrying to much about actually winning)... Just gotta find someone to film for us. Don't want to have nothing but a bunch of stationary tripod shots...

You could get away with it. The original trilogy was fairly static, only a couple moving shots here and there.
It'd be a bit more time consuming, but it could work.

Good man, good man. If you want to do a very simple fight like that may I suggest some Samurai films:

There you go, Sith-Man. You can do a *real* sword fight. Only 3-5 moves, like they should be. =P

Can we all take a moment to discuss how awkward it will be that from what I can see (aside from Vapes) everyone is fighting with a novus?

I'll be using a combination of dowls, and home made sabers...

Don't have the cash for a novus. :D

I can only imagine people outside the comp saying why is everyone fighting with the same thing? Only one jedi/sith superstore?

Also, nobody's had any problems with getting the bumper? Just want to be sure, no entry left behind. I compressed it down to 20 mb this time so everyone can get it faster.

Exactly! Which is why I love Spiff's stuff.

It's all in the execution. I remember yours. You stopped the action a lot with your cuts to black and long titles. If someone were to do a Samurai like fight it'd be all in the CUs and the moves would have to be very concise. It can be done. The winner of the last LCC wasn't long at all and each move had extreme precision.

The "50% sabers" was the problem, not that I expected to 'win' even with my full piece.
It was much different (better) before the entry was rejected. Very much like the Seven Samurai clip you linked.
Still somewhat bitter about it, ashamed to say.

Vapes and I are using a couple of different-generation UltraSabers... sabers. I got mine a few years ago when they were PVC hilts; he got his earlier this year now that they've switched to metal. We'd like some Novus sabers - or any other models Ryan with Sabershop might put out - but ultimately the glowing props worked well for us. Heck, my glasses may not even need to be roto'd.
