After double checking on Sinwara, who was a little worse for the wear but otherwise safe, Avidan turned back to the still somewhat shocked bastard. Apparently Feldspar and Avidan had not reached an understanding, as he was gaping like a fish with a face flushed so red it neared purple. Nonplussed, Avidan watched, absently hoping the other man would have a heart attack. Glancing down at his black gloves, he checked to make sure that they were as clean as they could be under the circumstances.

Before Feldspar could actually say anything Sinwara proposed a solution; simply state what the proposal was so they could formally be done with this. Starting to reply, Feldspars actual importance was made amply known as he was interrupted by Tamulis. Deciding that this was fruitless, she used the Force and threw Feldspar into the crimson gunk below them, which brought a smile of amusement to Avidan's face before what she actually said registered. A chill ran down his spine. They're going to corrupt the choosing. How dare they! Blasted Mullenkamp hutt slime. Then Tamulis walked through a black cloud and disappeared.

Doing a double take, Avidan realized he couldn't even sense her anymore as the cloud lingered for a bit. Below Feldspar splashed around in the soup, yelling that he couldn't swim. Turning to Sinwara, and ignoring the non-swimmer, "Go back to town. Warn them that the choosing has been compromised. The boys are not safe." Looking back at the cloud, he had a sense that his destiny lead through there, whatever it might be. "I am going after Tamulis. I want answers." Turning, he didn't say goodbye to his brother. The thought that he wouldn't be returning didn't even cross his mind.

Pausing, slightly apprehensive and curious about what the cloud would do, he noticed Sinwara looking towards Feldspar. "Leave him. There isn't time. Gavril may be in danger already." Looking straight into Sinwara's eyes, "Go." It was a command and a plea.

Taking a deep breath Avidan took a step forward, a step to his destiny, a slight but tense smile on his lips.

Sinwara felt his stomach drop out of his knees when Tamulis spoke, and simply threw Feldspar with an exertion in the Force - the buffoon flew, and dropped into the crimson beneath them. Sinwara rushed to the railings, and looked down, aghast. He looked back to his brother, muttering about following Tamulis into... whatever that was, and Sinwara's doubts redoubled, as he knew he had to tell the others about the Mullenkamp, and to get back to Gavril, now.

Sinwara looked back to Feldspar, and shook his head. "I have to do something, Avidan. A man cannot be allowed to die."

He realised he was speaking to thin air, and Avidan was gone. A sudden sensation of loss struck him, through the Force, but Sinwara sought his reserves of courage, and removed his long-coat, and, wrapping the sleeve around his ooze-coated fist, and placing another hand on the railing, he knelt and leaned down, dropping his coat down towards the ooze. "Feldspar, grab on. You should be able to tread the... water. It's thicker, now. Calm yourself, or you will drown."

Putting some steel into his voice, Sinwara leaned a fraction more, tightening his grip on the railing.

    "Grab my coat."

LeSait's faced darkened upon hearing the question.

"The very same person," he said. "Lumitar fon Papillon, richest Snivvian in this or a dozen other systems. Hence the acquittal, and our subsequent visit to the Judge this morning. It's one rule for the rich and another for the rest, eh my lord?"

    He smiled thinly at Korodoro.

The airspeeder pilot nestled the vehicle beside the walls of a squat, dome-shaped building a few hundred yards away from the Grand Cathedral. There was nothing particularly distinguishing about the building save that its airspace was kept completely clear. A landing ramp extended out beneath them, and they touched down. An entry port opened in the wall, and exited the speeder and stepped inside.

The first room was small and completely white, and contained nothing but a full body scanner and a guard, who gestured for them to step through.

"Welcome to VKP Headquarters," muttered LeSait, almost as an afterthought.

    Eyre shrugged her shoulders.

"I've never heard of a Red Queen. There haven't been many female monarchs in the Bardorba line. Perhaps he was referring to Queen Dalmasca. She had many titles."

Eyre seemed troubled for a moment, but then her face lightened somewhat.

"Still," she said. "He was probably just a madman."

They walked together back along the winding alleys of the City, avoiding the main roads. Cries of panic and confusion seemed to pierce the air wherever they went- the blood in the stream was clearly a City-wide phenomenon. The backstreets were largely deserted though, so they proceeded undisturbed.

    For the most part.

As they slipped along the path behind a disused brewery, a hand shot out of the darkness beside them. It was holding a blaster pistol.

    "Don't move," growled a voice.

The stranger emerged from the shadows. She turned out to be a dark-skinned woman, clad from her neck down in light metallic armour. Her face was young but heavily lined, and her eyes burned a molten brown. Her free hand was holding up a golden badge.

"VKP Investigator Kadessa DeOrland," she explained. "I thought I told you not to move."

"I am a Captain of the Crimson Blades," snarled Eyre, unsheathing her vibroblade. "I am escorting my guest. Crawl back to the gutter with the rest of the VKP dogs."

"I'll be giving the orders," replied DeOrland evenly. She turned towards Glyndon. "Identify yourself."

The Guard-Captain said nothing in response to Calen's analysis of the situation, though he seemed very interested. At the mention of atavism he nodded and even smiled softly, but remained silent.

When they encountered the boy, Stark did as suggested and knelt by the stream to take a sample, before activating the communicator attached to his armour and reporting his findings back to his command centre.

Meanwhile Calen was engaging the Sephi boy Marco in conversation. It was strange that the boy was there at all, particularly without his father, and Calen asked him a few gentle questions.

"I've been here for a few hours," said Marco, tucking his unruly brown hair behind his long, pointed ears. "I didn't see anything strange except the snowflies gathering to the water. Then it turned...into what it is now."

He returned Calen's smile with one of his own.

"You're sensitive to the Force...aren't you. I can feel it in you."

Feldspar hesitated for a moment, bobbed in the blood and accidentally swallowed a mouthful. That seemed a foul enough experience to trigger his survival instincts, and he launched himself towards the coat, grabbing it gratefully. Sinwara hoisted him up and soon they were both back on the walkway.

Floryn was willing to let the barb about wealth go, but not the line of questioning. LeSait muttered their arrival as he waddled down the landing ramp, but the Wroonian Earl ignored it and, even as he stood to disembark, was speaking. "So then you think he's guilty? What happened?"

His coat billowing behind him as he walked at a clip, the Earl was aware it was absurd to discuss the details of a closed murder case while there was a river running red with blood.

Sinwara was exhausted, and only his sense of personal pride saved him from collapsing on his back and having a moment. He breathed heavily, standing up, placing his hand on his chest as if such an act would keep his heart from bursting out. After a few restrained gulps, in which he sought succor in his exhausted handkerchief to escape the smell, he watched as Feldspar dropped to his knees, so pathetic that Sinwara felt the urge to kick him back into the blood.

Stilling his fathers instincts, he looked about, and saw that the cloud of fog, and his twin, had vanished. Trepidation filled him; Avidan was going into the heart of the dark, on this wretched world, and he had no idea if Rina had even told him about the Mullenkamp - the terrible tales. The horror, the patricide, the fratricide... Sinwara pressed his lips together, and Feldspar promptly burst into tears, and choked up the blood he'd swallowed.

That was enough for Sinwara. He'd saved the man out of a sense of what was right, but this was quite enough.

Sinwara, in his youth, would have dropped to his haunches so he was eye level, but he was not the nimble teen he had been. He pulled up Feldspar, shaking the fool, lightly but enough to get his attention. "We have to warn the city, and you have to tell me everything you know about Tamulis and the Mullenkamp."

Durasteel entered his voice, and Sinwara leaned over Feldspar.

    "Now."

Everything disappeared and darkness swallowed all of his senses. Most people think they understand darkness, but this wasn't like a dark room. This was beyond even a cave. This was the absence of even the possibility of light ever having even existed. And something had taken control of his body and was causing him pain. Trying to force his limbs to straighten out, to his mounting horror Avidan had no control whatsoever, his muscles not even applying any tension against whatever force had stolen his motor control.

Trying to scream, he only succeeded in thinking really loudly to himself, I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS! UNHAND ME WHATEVER YOU ARE! It didn't listen, instead twisting just a little bit farther.

Just like that there was light again, his limbs were under his control, though very shaky, and he found himself impacting a very hard stone floor. A woofing noise emerged from Avidan's lips as the air in his lungs left with a spasm. Scowling, Avidan tried to sit up but his arms failed to give him any support, not to mention his backs utter unwillingness to cooperate. Instead he settled for looking around and finding... no one. There wasn't even the sense of a person in the Force, but there were wooden pews and what looked like an old style cathedral made from some unremarkable grey stone. Then he rolled over.

Behind him was a very ornate marble altar, the kind he had only seen holos pertaining to backwards worlds with savage cultures still believing in sacrifices. This was not particularly comforting in the least, and he finally managed to regain some semblance of control over his body: enough to sit up at least For some reason the carvings left a very eerie feeling running down his spine.

Using the altar for leverage, Avidan stood and heard a voice speaking. It was a rather pretty voice, the kind that sounded like it would make a lovely tenor. Power might be a problem, but that could be learned, as the voice spoke in a whisper. It told him where he was. Kitai? I have no clue who this... goddess maybe, whatever. Who is she supposed to be? Speaking aloud he asked, "Where are you?" The voice ignored him for the moment continuing on explaining a bit of the history of the place, but making this as clear as the bloody sewage he had just left behind at the water reclamation plant.

Looking around, he noticed that there was a very definite occult feel to the layout to the building, something vaguely sithian, or at least of somewhat sinister quality to it. To those who didn't know anything it would just seem to be a holy place of worship, as the voice had described. "What was worshiped here voice?" It felt imminently strange speaking to something that shouldn't even exist, but that was how life went sometimes: strange, bizarre, and otherwise absurd. Again the voice paid him no attention, and in the silence there were footsteps outside the door. For some reason they seemed very loud.

Apparently the voice was going to answer his question, saying something about a Saint Ajora and how they thought that the recent queen was her reincarnate, and that there had been other gods and... things that had been worshipped here. It wasn't the most helpful answer in the world, and just as he was about to ask about it (probably to no avail) whoever was outside started trying to enter the room and demanding that he unlock the door. The banging and door handle rattling were most insistent. Avidan couldn't have cared less.

The voice, on the other hand, did and said they would speak again later. "Wait! I need more information!" The complete lack of a reply wasn't precisely surprising, but it was exceedingly frustrating. "Damn it all!" Face screwing up in irritation he stalked to the door, threw it open and acted like he owned the place. It was rather easy. "What?" Authority oozed from his every movement, tone of voice, and the exceedingly condescending glare he gave whoever was on the other side of the door would likely throw them off-balance before

    Calen Rohn; By the stream

"I've been here for a few hours," said the boy, tucking his unruly brown hair behind his long, pointed ears. "I didn't see anything strange except the snowflies gathering to the water. Then it turned...into what it is now." Calen looked at the water. Smart boy, did not take water turning to blood for granted.

His sun would probably have jumped the train to give in to religious hysteria. Having been chosen as a successor had been an honor. His son and his independance tendencies had surely jumped at it. No matter how motivated the others were, Claen wondered if they could hold up against his son´s hatred for him. With a sigh he returned to the task at hand. A son as a King would be nice, yet it would not give him any prupose if the artist within´him could not be resurrected.

"I see. I see. They gathered before it turned, did they?" Calen said and turned to the police man. Then he looked back at the boy.

"You're sensitive to the Force...aren't you. I can feel it in you." Calen raised his borow. Jeid had once told his mother he was and he often thought it might be the source for his fabled sensitivity. He had even once asked a Jedi if his blockade could result from the "Dark Side". Yet, he could not say he ever did anything with the fact some people considered him sensitive to the force. Thanks mother you have not thrown me into any foolish crusader-arms in the name of good!

"So they say, boy. So they say." He tried to concentrate on the boy in return, out of pure jealousy the boy could actually do something with it. Calen had no control or idea how to use his dormant abilites. "So are you, I assume?" Calen smiled. Then leaned forward. "Tell me, what else do you feel?"

The force. Had he been so desperate that he began to ask the force about the bloody stream?

Certainly not. There were many "leads to follow." But he liked the idea of the force involved for a simple reason . . . later when the story was told, the audience would love it.

    Bastard.

It was the voice of his son. In his head. Calen smiled, the boy probably thought at him.

Even as a mental companion his son hadn´t changed that much.

"Guilty?" repeated LeSait, an eyebrow raised. "Without even a shadow of doubt. But I'm not at liberty to discuss the evidence of an open case-"

"Closed," hissed Voren'kaa, with a hint of a smirk.

"No case is closed," replied LeSait, "until justice has been done. That's the way we think in the VKP. I wouldn't expect a kath hound to understand."

They proceeded through the scanners and down an adjoining turbolift directly into LeSait's office. It was a fairly small room but still seemed to be more of a command centre than an office. A large holodeck took up most of the space, currently projecting a heatmap of the Tircolas Flow. A couple of protocol droids stood in booths beside the deck, flicking through portable displays and relaying instructions to agents in the field. Suspended directly above LeSait's desk were the faces of the four boys competing for the throne.

"We've got a pool going in the office," said LeSait, settling himself down at his chair and gesturing for his two guests to be seated opposite. "My money's on the Rohn boy. No offence."

Stark noted that the snowflies had gathered before the stream transformed, and nodded in acknowledgement.

"They gather where the dark runs deepest," he repeated quietly, more to himself than to the others. He turned his attention back to his communicator.

Meanwhile Marco had grabbed a large rock from the forest floor, and was using it to answer Calen's question.

"Yeah, I'm sensitive to the Force," he confirmed. "And as for what I feel..."

He placed the rock flat in his palm and pointed to it. A few ants crawled across its surface, rushing into its cracks and crevices. Then Marco turned the rock over- and its underside was absolutely covered with the creatures. He dropped it to the ground.

"That's what I feel," he said. "Or that's how best I can explain it. What we're seeing is only the start. There's a whole lot more darkness beneath the City, waiting to be turned towards the surface. And today is the day."

    Behind them, Stark stood up.

"Samples confirm it's blood," he announced. "And my men are reporting the same thing through the entire Flow."

Feldspar flinched at Sinwara's touch, and brushed the man's hands away as he tried to shake him. But the act was merely token defiance- the expression on his face was one of defeat.

"You must have heard of Mullenkamp," he said. "Joshua I got the last of them when he restored the City, but they're more dangerous than ever now that Falleen madman Corinne has brought them back. They wanted the throne. They wanted me to sit on it for them. They're more than just a cult, you know."

His eyes glazed over, and he seemed to be focused on some distant object.

"My lord Malreaux," one of them said, finding his composure and bowing his head. "We're...so sorry to...disturb you."

"Yes," said another of them hastily. "Very sorry. We had no idea-"

    "No idea at all-"

"Didn't even get a notice from the Cardinal-"

"If we'd known that the father of the King-"

    "The potential father-"

There was a quick gasp of air as they realised their possible offence.

    "My word! We do apologise!"

    "What he meant was-"

"What we meant was, potential father of the king because your son may not in fact become king, not because you are only potentially his father-"

    "Which of course you are-"

"I know," said Sinwara softly, as Feldspar rambled. "My wife told me about the Mullenkamp. About the stories. They scared her more than the Mecrosa - the Tapani sectors answer to the Sith."

Sinwara scowled at the man, as he used his handkerchief to wipe the blood from his hands. "They must have had a contact for you, a way in which they communicated this offer."

"It doesn't matter." Sinwara raised a hand to forestall a comment, and he began to walk. "You are coming with me into the city, and you can tell me while we walk. We won't have much time." Sinwara paused, at the foot of the steps, as a thought touched his mind.

He turned, a touch of murder to his thoughts. "And if you've done anything that has endangered Gavril's life, you won't have to worry about what the Mullenkamp had intended to do to you - because I'll have already done it."

Feldspar flushed at the threat, and a hint of his previous bluster returned to his tone.

"We never had ill intentions for your son, Malreaux. Why do you think we approached you in the first place? Gavril was to be groomed as my heir- that was the offer. And undoubtedly still would be if it weren't for that snake's sudden change of heart. She's Corinne's lover, you see. Or rather, his pet."

He wiped the blood from his sleeves as he walked, wrinkling his nose at the smell. A thought struck him then, and he looked up sneering, the last remnants of fear now fading from his features.

"Endangering Gavril's life...me? How amusing. Do you not know what the Cardinal has planned for those boys today?"

Sinwara paused, hearing the offer, and then scowling somewhat. Such an offer was not unpalatable to the nobleman in me. It would save the 'choosing' aspect... but, they'd be involved with the Mullenkamp, and...

He was busy adjusting to the pitfalls and thrusts of the calculations, such efforts in and of itself he didn't approve of, and then he realised that Rina would have been horrified to even hear him entertaining such a concept. He discarded it, just as Feldspar pulled back his upper lip in a malicious grin. Sinwara paused, and turned, slowly, repeating the last few words in his mind that Feldspar had just said. He had no time for any trickery, at all.

He took a determined step up to Feldspar. There were no promises in his eyes, only cold and complete darkness. He had gone to the place that his father had cultivated for years. That he had achieved with Avidan. Sinwara raised his hand, with painstaking precision, towards Feldspar.

    "Tell me. Now. Right now."

For a moment Feldspar looked as if he were about to make some snide remark- but then he saw the darkness in Sinwara's eyes, and he thought better of it.

"Watch your manners, Malreaux," he said, but it was a half-hearted rebuke. "I have heard only rumours, but they come from sources close to the throne. A fatal accident is scheduled to befall three of the candidates. At the end of the day's proceedings, the remaining boy will be crowned. The Cardinal will frame Mullenkamp for the...casualties."

The case seemed to be a touchy subject. Floryn decided it would be best to look up the details of the crime later. Instead he surveyed the command center - exactly the sort of place he'd expected. He wondered what sort of business LeSait had with the Judge Magister that it required a team of men. He decided that that, too, was unwise to ask about. Above LeSait's desk, holos of the four regnal candidates' faces.

Sinwara released a breath, having been holding one inside him until the whole world became as red as his face. He calmed his nerves, shredded to the point that he may have dragged his wits across dragged transparisteel. He had to get on top of this, and do what had to be done. He placed a hand on Feldspar's shoulder, delicately placing it on a patch which appeared to be dry. Well, drier.

"Look." Sinwara needed the man, even if he loathed that thought, by a substantial margin. "I understand. You're of noble blood, but you aren't taken seriously purely by dint of the indiscretions surrounding your birth. It is frustrating. It makes you into something you are not supposed to be."

Sinwara softened his expression. "But it will be all that you are unless you help me stop this."

"We must find a way into the Cathedral. That won't result in us being caught, or seen. Because if the Cardinal is able to pull that off, he'll have more than enough assets and pawns to keep us from getting to them if we go the official way. If," and Sinwara raised his hand, "only if, we stop this, then I'll be more than willing to consider your offer."

He shrugged. "Or, you can view it as revenge. The Mullenkamp will inevitably make an attempt on Gavril and the others. So we can be there, making a complete disaster of their plans, and you'll be a hero."

    Glyndon Nordic
    Leaving Wyvern Brood, City West

Glyndon was walking back with his bodyguard Eyre, they were talking about the reference to the Red Queen. Eyre could not think of anyone particular that could be considered the Red Queen. His only suggestion was it could have been the last monarch Queen Dalmasca, who had many titles.

Glyndon was unsure about it being the last queen. It felt to him it was something that had been ages ago. This event made him feel like an investigator instead of a inventor. Though as an inventor he wore many hats. In order to get the right results one must try with different ideas. This in itself required investigating the details of certain things to make sure they could be counter productive with other formula's or equipment he used. Glyndon convinced himself this was exactly the same thing.

Glyndon saw that the bodyguard was troubled, but suddenly a light came upon her face. "Still," she said. "He was probably just a madman."

Glyndon smiled and lifted his legs in marching style. "Oh you would be surprised how many a madmen have spoke a truth that none want to hear."

They walked together back along the winding alleys of the City, avoiding the main roads. Glyndon could hear the cries of panic and confusion, as his eyes glanced out to see the stream of blood was not only in the Wyvern, but throughout. He understood the people were frightened. They continued walking through the backstreets.

As they slipped along the path behind a disused brewery, a hand shot out of the darkness beside them. It was holding a blaster pistol.

      "Don't move," growled a voice.

The person came in to view from out of the shadows, it was a dark-skinned woman, clad from her neck down in light metallic armour.

Glyndon's eyes grew large at the sight of the pistol, but then his eyes shifted to what the young, but heavily lined face female had in her other hand. It was a gold badge.

"VKP Investigator Kadessa DeOrland," she explained. "I thought I told you not to move."

"Me move..what nah wouldn't dream of it"
Glyndon said as he stood straight as a statue with his arms up in the air.

Glyndon gulped before weakly saying "Me?" Finally putting his arms down he coughed as if clearing his throat before speaking.

He tried to appear much braver this time. In his mind a little voice kept saying. Speak with more authority...don't be afraid it's just another security person she won't hurt you.

Lifting his head higher looking almost regal "I am Glyndon Nordic." he confessed only once did he blink at the pistol in the VKP investigator's hand.

He absolutely hated guns, had a fear of them for such a long time and now he is here with one in his face. He tried hard not to show his fear. He hoped that his legs were not wobbling together, why did she have to use a gun anyway. Glyndon would have happily told her who he was anyway. Now he had to hope that this person with the gun would come to their senses and put that thing away. He certainly was no danger to anyone.

"I'll drink to that if you will," replied LeSait, withdrawing a bottle of Whyren's Reserve from a drawer. He paused. "Just a half measure though mind, until today's over with."

He barely had time to offer his guests a glass when the holodeck sprang to life and an image of a young VKP officer replaced that of the Tircolas Flow.

"Lieutenant," barked LeSait. "If I'm not mistaken, that's the interior of the cellblock I see behind you. I thought I told you to-"

"Sir," interjected the officer, short of breath, "we picked up a prisoner on patrol. We're getting him in the cells as we speak. You have to come down here-"

Two more VKP officers blurred into view, striding past. In their custody was an enormous tattooed Boltrunian, his arms secured behind his back. His skin was craggy and scarred, and a network of strange luminous veins pulsed across his bare spine.

    LeSait's eyes widened.

"Getting him in the cells? Get him in the interrogation room, boy! Then wait for me to get down there!"

He spun around to Korodoro and Voren'kaa.

"That brute's name is Haeralis- Mullenkamp's second-in-command. Gods know how the lads got him today of all days, but he's downstairs and I'm betting it's something to do with whatever happened to the Flow. You'll have to excuse me. Help yourself to the whisky."

Eyre growled an answer in the affirmative.

"Well Mr Nordic," continued Kadessa, "I'm also sorry that you had to witness this."

She fired at Eyre. A flash of blue light struck the Crimson Blade and sent her crashing to the ground, instantly stunned.

"Please don't panic," said Kadessa to Glyndon, holstering her blaster. "Help me get her inside."

"You don't understand the forces at work here, Malreaux. Trying to fight both Mullenkamp and the Cardinal at once is a battle you can only lose. If you try and infiltrate the Cathedral, you will die in the attempt, and your son will be punished fatally for your mistake."

They emerged back onto the street, near the King's Library.

"My part in the day's events is over," said Feldspar. "I will wait until I am back in Corinne's favour."

    And today is the day.

The boys words rang in his ears. There is a lot darkness under the city.

Calen looked at the Captain of the guard and his samples.

Waiting to get to the surface.

Calen heard the words and tried to picture the darkness. Like cancer. Spreading. Wasn´t it what darkness always did? He looked at the Snowflies. Where the darkness runs deepest.

And suddenly the father inside awakened like a roaring beast. The feeling the boy could be in danger was unbearable. Much more so than the idea of spending time with this said boy. Calen had thought this thing here would make his son another man. something he could respect. now it seemed to be an danger. Did they use his boy? Was the ceremony the key to something greater? Calen understood the timing to be too much to be coincidential. Heirs and a chain of events nearby indicating some dark power at work?
And then he looked back at the stone and the boys amazing little trick. nothing more than that. a trick. Perspective. An artist did not need any force user to tell him perespectives were dangerous and the only wisdom worth possessing.

"I do not have your perception boy. I never trained my abilities. I only know I have them." Calen smiled. "Tell me would you help me? I have a riddle to solve and I need a little help with it. what do you say? An advneture for the two of us?"

Calen looked at the Captain once more and sighed. Looked like he had to follow his feeling on this ne. After all he could not draw a picture without knowing all the details, right?

Be strong, it's all a mistake. The person with the gun will not harm you. Those exact words kept swirling around in Glyndon's mind. He had tried to appear brave in front of the VKP Investigator. It was hard though because he really didn't like confrontation. Oh how he wished he could just see his son. He knew that Brendon wouldn't have blinked at a sign of a gun. His son was so very unlike him. Brendon was the very essence of bravery. He had acquired that trait from his mother.

Now he is standing here not knowing if he would see his son again. Would the investigator not believe who he was or mistake him for someone else. Maybe he would mistake him for the perpetrator, who had lined the Tircolas Flow red with blood. He just had to hope that this mistake would be resolved the sooner the better.

"Glyndon Nordic," repeated Kadessa, gasping. "I'm so sorry, I had no idea it was you. I take it this Blade is your bodyguard?"

"Yes" Glyndon said with a sigh of relief, while Eyre growled an answer in the affirmative. Finally the VKP had come to her senses. Glyndon started to relax and expected the VKP to put her gun away, but something else happened instead. Much to Glyndon's surprise.

"Well Mr Nordic," continued Kadessa, "I'm also sorry that you had to witness this."

Before Glyndon could answer the VKP fired at Eyre and sent her crashing to the ground, instantly stunned.

"Aaaahhhhh!!!! What are you doing?" screamed Glyndon at Kadessa.

"Please don't panic," said Kadessa to Glyndon, holstering her blaster. "Help me get her inside."

"Hold up, you shoot her and now you want me to be your accomplice and bring her inside. You have a lot of explaining to do. I won't do no such thing until you give me some answers." He said with a tone that seem to shake as much as his body.

Glyndon was now fidgeting about not knowing what to do. He started to pull on his hair. That was something of a habit that he did when he was very stressed out. And Glyndon Nordic couldn't have been more stressed out as he was at this moment.

Should he run away and get help. Who would he turn to. The city was already in a state of panic due to the blood in the Tircoals Flow.

He looked down at Eyre's still body. His eyes bulging out. "Is she dead?"

With that, Sinwara completely lost his temper with Feldspar, clamping his arm on the man's arm, ignoring the dampness to the cloth and crushing the flesh with his grip. "You don't have a choice. You will either help me, or I'll discredit you entirely. Working with the Mullenkamp, Lord Feldspar? Did you really think it would be that simple to duck out now?"

Sinwara made no effort to hush his tones. Any bystanders would definitely hear. And if there weren't any, Sinwara would definitely go out of his way to find me. "And how am I supposed to accept your offer if you're in prison? You can't seriously be telling me that you had no plan if the Mullenkamp betrayed you?"

He glared at the man, imagining invisible fingers reaching for his throat, willing the man to have a heart attack, or aneurysm, or to simply die with all of his soul.

Snarling with disgust, Sinwara spun away, and stormed towards the Cathedral. He would look for someone to direct him to one of the other candidates fathers, or he would smash down the door with his bare fists. To hell with his father. He wouldn't let Gavril be killed.

"Our adventure's already begun, Mr Rohn," replied Marco with a smile. He turned his body away from Stark, and lifted the bottom of his shirt slightly so that only Calen could see. Tucked into the boy's belt was the hilt of what appeared to be a lightsaber.

"We're here to help," said Marco softly. He let the shirt fall over his belt again.

"We should head back to the City," said Stark, having finished taking samples from the stream. "I placed a combat sensor upon each of my team to detect blaster fire and send out an automatic signal. Captain Eyre's sensor has just sent me such a signal. She was guarding Glyndon Nordic. If someone is attacking her then they may be after all four fathers, which means it is not safe for us to remain in one place."

"Please stay calm, Mr Nordic," said DeOrland, struggling to open up the building's doors with one hand. "She's not dead, just stunned."

She dropped the body for a moment and walked over to Glyndon, taking him by the shoulders and looking him square in the eye.

Two of the most recognisable aristocrats in the City was enough reason to draw the attention of passers-by, but their casual interest spiked when Sinwara loudly drew attention to Feldspar's association with Mullenkamp. A small crowd began to form, and appalled whispers rippled through it.

"I'd like to see you prove such accusations, Lord Malreaux!" cried Feldspar, as Sinwara began to walk away.

Feldspar's hands were clutching to loosen his collar, as if some invisible hand were around his neck. His face was crimson, and as he saw the faces of the bystanders around him, he decided he wasn't finished.

"But perhaps I'm foolish to ask for proof from a man who can't even prove his son's paternity! Just how many brothers did your wife get through?"

Korodoro watched LeSait scurry off, jaw agape for a time. This constituted a major arrest for the VKP - Mullenkamp! It was vaguely comforting, but the fact that this attack was likely carried out because of the beginning of the candidates' trials...to say it was disconcerting was an understatement. And not just for selfish reasons - the city was in peril because of the aspirations of himself and three other fathers (yes, three: one of the Malreaux's obviously didn't count as a father). He stood crossed to the desk and crossed to it. He poured two glasses of whiskey and, sitting on the desk, turned around to offer one to the Blade. "Well," he said, "this is cause for celebration!"

He briefly wondered how a Trandoshan drank from a glass without cheeks.

"Perhaps," rasped Voren'kaa, shaking a claw to dismiss the proffered glass. "But having eluded capture for so long, how did they find him today?"

The image on the holodeck had yet to vanish. The guards were now marching the huge Boltrunian out of the cellblock. Or attempting to. All of a sudden, he was putting up resistance. He headbutted the closest guard to him, and simply nodded in the direction of the other- a gesture that was enough to send the man flying without contact.

"Grand Steward!" yelled the lieutenant who had originally transmitted the message. "Are you there? Raise the-"

And then he was grabbed by his neck by Haeralis, who had somehow burst from his restraints.

"What I do now," bellowed the Boltrunian, "I do in the name of Mullenkamp and Aldous Corinne! May the Blood-Sin once again bind this City!"

The strange veins on his spine now began to glow with sudden intensity. There were shouts from off-camera, and the sound of blaster fire, but then, there was nothing but light-

And a growing rumble beneath the floor of the office, before-

The explosion tore through the entire building, and Voren'kaa rushed to pin Floryn to the ground. Flame and stone scattered around their heads.

"Perhaps," the Trandoshan responded, denying Floryn's curiosity by denying the glass, "but having eluded capture for so long, how did they find him today?"

"I don't get the impression the Knights and the Blades are exactly sharing information," Floryn said, sipping the whiskey. "There's no way to tell how long they've been - "

He was interrupted as, behind him on the holo, a fight had broken out. As he turned to look, the Boltrunian raised a hand in a vague gesture, sending a guard reeling. The prisoner can touch the Force! There were shouts of alarm, and the Boltrunian came forward towards the camera. "What I do now," he cried, "I do in the name of Mullenkamp and Aldous Corinne! May the Blood-Sin once again bind this City!"

And then there was light, and an impact, and falling, and darkness.

Glyndon watched as the VKP seemed to be in a rush as she hauled Eyre's body inside the disused brewery. The Blade's crimson armour scraped noisily along the stone. Glyndon winced from the sound. He looked around to see if anyone heard but no one was around. Glyndon refused to help Kadessa. He demanded to know what was going on. His hair was now sticking out in every direction due to his nervousness.

"Please stay calm, Mr Nordic," said DeOrland, struggling to open up the building's doors with one hand. "She's not dead, just stunned."

"Just stunned....like that is suppose to make me feel any better."

She dropped the body for a moment and walked over to Glyndon, taking him by the shoulders and looking him square in the eye.

Glyndon's eyes started to blink rapidly. Please don't do anything to me he thought as she looked at him.

"I know this is a lot to take in, today of all days, but you have to trust me. I've been tracking this woman for weeks...I believe she is involved with a conspiracy that could put your son in serious danger."

Suddenly Glyndon's eyes stopped blinking. Did she say his son could be in serious danger. Forgetting his nerves, he now had many questions and most of all concern for his son. He would never allow anything to happen to Brendon.

He knew coming here was a mistake. The chaos that is happening had to be connected to the throne. He knew it and so did that street prophet. He was warning him about the Red Queen. Then with a courage that he had never had before Glyndon grabbed the arm of the VKP Investigator and looked in to her eyes.

" I want you to tell me everything you know. Who is behind this conspiracy?"

"Do you know anything about a Red Queen?"

He waited determinately for the VKP to answer him, all the while having his son's well being in the back of his mind.

    Calen Rohn;Forest; Northern city

A lightsaber. Calen smiled. In every story there had to be a Jedi, right? So that made it more obvious he was not the best informed but least informed person in this game. Usually he would not have cared but simply taken his griping son and left. But his son was in the cathedral and we was out here and had just found a spark of his old self in the sight of a hoax of a blood red river. "Then we shall look into the darkness together, boy." He nodded.

He would not go anywhere. Not for the next day. So what remained for him was to survive.

"We should head back to the City," said Stark, "I placed a combat sensor upon each of my team to detect blaster fire and send out an automatic signal. Captain Eyre's sensor has just sent me such a signal. She was guarding Glyndon Nordic. If someone is attacking her then they may be after all four fathers, which means it is not safe for us to remain in one place." Calen looked at the man. Actually considering how little he knew about all this, it was not safe for Calen to remain anywhere.

"Why don´t you join us for a bit?" Calen smiled to the boy and began walking next to his guard.

"An assumption from my side. You will be responsible to investigate this, right? And you will be the one trying to stop it as the Captain of the guard, right?" Calen said as if he chatted about weather. "As they were about to take a left turn Calen pointed to the right." My son has an old blaster pistol in our room in the guest house. I think it might be the moment when I admit defeat to him in his bsence and get it, if you don´t mind." Calen smiled to the guard. After all he was the only person unarmed here and for the first time in his life he felt naked because of that.
