Probably won't be able to post again until the 20th, sorry. :( It's exams time again...

    IC: Kara Dysar

    Snowfly Forest

No footprints, no blood, nothing. In fact, the ground was completely undisturbed - it was as if Hardin and Joshua had never been here. Kara was starting to suspect the portal might not be entirely accurate - that she had teleported to the general vicinity of where Hardin had emerged, but not exactly. For one thing, she didn't really think Hardin had travelled down the river earlier to the cathedral.

Kara took a deep breath and exhaled, letting go of the frustration building within her. Peace. Absently swatting the mass of snowflies fluttering around her, she stretched out with the Force to find a way.

The snowflies swarmed off, but they were back within moments, fluttering around her more insistently. Kara couldn't help but notice the pattern in their motions: they kept flying to the same tree before returning to bother her. Curious now, Kara reached out to the insects in the Force and felt a strange sense of - impatience? The Jedi frowned, puzzled. Insects swarmed, true, but to feel impatient took sentience, and she had never heard of sentient bugs ...

Kara watched almost dreamily as the insects followed their predictable pattern; first they swarmed around her head, then at the tree and off into the forest, and back again. Pretty, Kara thought detachedly. They wanted her to follow, that much was obvious. And well ... why not? Without really thinking about it, Kara followed the snowflies off into the forest.

Vic had two options. Ignore this situation, make a stealthy escape and let the Bounty Hunter die. Or...save him.

For a Jedi Knight, such decisions are no decision at all. Within a fraction of a second, Vic was springing into action.

He leaped out from around the corner, using the Force to propel himself within fifteen feet of Neesa. He thrust his hand forward, sending a surge of Force energies toward his foe. She was sitting by the stream, and the push caught her square on the chest, sending her flying backwards out of her trance, and into the water. The Imperial Knight's eyes opened wide with shock as she flailed against the current and tried to crawl back onto land.

To Vic's surprise, however, Rosencrantz remained held in the air, clutching at his throat helplessly.

And it was then that the two other Imperial Knights emerged from the shadowy doorway of a nearby hut. They had concealed their Force presence well, but now seemed happy to reveal themselves. The first was young, lithe and beautiful. Samantha. The second was fierce, imposing and tall. The leader and captain of the squad, Guildenstern.

It dawned on Vic that Neesa was not in fact the person gripping Rosencrantz by the throat, and as the two new arrivals approached, lightsabers in hand, he realised he was in serious trouble.

Kara watched almost dreamily as the insects followed their predictable pattern; first they swarmed around her head, then at the tree and off into the forest, and back again. Pretty, she thought detachedly. They wanted her to follow, that much was obvious. And well ... why not? Without really thinking about it, Kara followed the snowflies.

They led her deeper and deeper into the labyrinth forest, occasionally flitting too far ahead for her to see and then returning to her to guide the way. Their light was hypnotic and compelling, and Kara began to lose all awareness of her surroundings. The trees, the grass, the snow...all vanished and blurred until there was only the light- the darting, shimmering, magical light.

The Zeltron's natural empathic ability only heightened her trance, for the snowflies seemed to have feelings of their own. The further they went, the more calming and soothing they became, letting her drift off into a sort of waking sleep...

And then suddenly they disappeared, flying off with disconcerting speed in all directions, leaving her stranded and disorientated.

To Kara's horror, she realised she had been led directly into the middle of a...situation.

She was standing in the centre of a large clearing. On one side stood the Imperial Knights Grissom and Duane, their lightsabers ignited and in hand, clearly ready for battle. On the other side stood Sydney Losstarot, unarmed and alone.

The two Knights seemed confused and startled at the sudden appearance of the Zeltron. Sydney, on the other hand, seemed perfectly unperturbed.

"Hello there," he called to Kara. "My little flies appear to have done their job. Welcome to the party, Master Dysar."

OOC: How did I miss this...? Sorry about that. I was gone all day Tuesday and today.

    IC: Vic Horkin
    ~City of Leá Monde~

Vic could not believe he had been so easily tricked. Once he looked back and saw that the bounty hunter was still scratching at his throat, he knew he had been deceived. As he thought about it, Vic thought even less about the Imperial Knights than he already did. These brutes had used their companion, one of their own people who they had fought and trained with - a friend - as bait to lure the Jedi and his companion out. It was a dirty trick, one the Jedi would never use. Now, Neesa was flowing with the current away from the group, possibly heading towards her death.

The Jedi Knight, only one of his lightsabers blazing, turned to face the two new Imperial Knights. A sense of danger came to him, but that was expected. These two were not very friendly looking - though the female was fairly attractive. Vic recognized the other one, the leader of the squad of Imperial Knights, Guildenstern. Great, he thought. I'm suppose to stay away from the Knights at all cost, and now I am up against two of them, one being the leader! The Council would not be happy. That is, if he survived to tell them about it.

Vic did not even indulge his visitors with a single word, he had no time if he wanted Jan to survive. His hand greeted them in an attempt to bring the hut that they had just came out of on top of them. That would hopefully distract them to free Jan of his near death experience that he was now experience. If only he had not separated from the rest of his Jedi team.

    Snowfly Forest

Time ceased to matter as Kara walked through the forest with the snowflies as her guide. Indeed, as she walked, she began to lose all sense of where she was and what she was doing - the only thing that mattered was the light, the flickering light of the snowflies that managed to be both utterly compelling and soothing at once -

And then they were gone, flying with disconcerting speed in all directions, leaving Kara alone and disoriented in the middle of the forest. The sudden sense of absence was startling - and Kara realized, with a sinking feeling, that she was not alone.

She was standing in the centre of a large clearing. On one side stood the Imperial Knights Grissom and Duane, their lightsabers ignited and in hand, clearly ready for battle. They looked confused and startled to see her there. On the other side stood Sydney Losstarot, unarmed and alone - and of the beings in the clearing, only he looked entirely unsurprised.

"Hello there," he called to Kara. "My little flies appear to have done their job. Welcome to the party, Master Dysar."

Kara was suddenly angry. Chagrined, too, but mostly angry - and not just at Sydney, but herself as well. It had been Sydney's doing, all of it; the snowflies had merely been bait to lure her here, and she had fallen for it like a crecheling. Her left fist closed convulsively around the hilt of her lightsaber, though she was careful not to ignite it. The Imperial Knights were still there, and the last thing she wanted was to provoke another fight with the Emperor's lackeys.

Instead, she focused on the Sith leader. "What are you playing at, Sydney?" Kara demanded.

OOC: No worries Nem. We have seemed to settle into rather relaxed pace rather than the intense two-month posting marathon that I initially anticipated. :p But I'm cool with that. There's no rush. ;)

Now...the musical accompaniment for these two scenes shall be...the Karas Battle Theme.

Vic wasted no time. He threw out a hand towards the approaching Imperial Knights, pulling at the hut behind them. The stonework was old and loose, and took only the slightest tug to come crashing down. Guildenstern whirled around in time, ducked and rolled out of the way, but his partner Samantha was not so lucky. The flying stones battered her arms and head, and she collapsed to the ground.

"R-Romeo..." she gasped, trying to crawl onto her knees, and failing.

Nearby, Rosencrantz dropped to the floor at last, released from the invisible hol;d. His face had turned blue, but he was still alive.

Guildenstern stormed forwards, fury on his face. He strode straight past the bounty hunter on the ground, heading directly for Vic. Within a second he had closed the distance, and lunged violently at the Jedi with lightsaber ignited, attempting to decapitate him in one single stroke.

And if that wasn't enough to worry about, Neesa, who had been knocked into the stream, was managing to claw her way back onto land...it was just be a matter of moments before she joined the party too.

"What are you playing at, Sydney?" demanded Kara.

"I just came for a stroll in the forest," replied Sydney with a grin, his hands raised in a gesture of non-hostility. "Only to be accosted by these two ruffians."

"Enough playing!" spat Duane. "What if we were to execute this little Jedi, Sydney? What happens to your game then?"

"I think," replied Sydney with a slight smile, "that this little Jedi may prove more than a match for you fellows."

"This conversation is over," announced Grissom. "We will take the Rood from you by force."

"Will you just stand there?" called Sydney to Kara, dropping onto his knees. "And let them kill an unarmed prisoner?"

"Don't interfere, Zeltron," hissed Duane without looking around.

The two Imperial Knights strode purposefully towards the kneeling Sydney, their sabers raised high and their intention clear.

Vic was glad his plan had partially worked. The building missed his main target, Guildenstern - the leader and most likely more skilled opponent - and landed on top of the female Imperial Knight. The Jedi did feel a hint of regret at having just destroyed a living beings life, but knew that was the cost of battle. Besides, he had no time to think about something like that as he saw the flying body of Guildenstern coming towards Vic. The Imperial Knights lightsaber bearing down on the Jedi fast towards his head in an attempt to decapitate the him.

The Jedi Knight instinctively rolled out of the way, tumbling forward and to the right to avoid the removal of his head. At the same time, he slashed outward toward the open lower body of the Imperial Knight. As Vic came to his feet, he managed to catch a glimpse of the river several meters away and saw the Imperial Knight that he had pushed into the river clawing her way onto land. Hopefully Jan would be able to recover in time to help or Vic would be facing a big problem. One Imperial Knight in front and one that would most likely be flanking him in the coming moments.

Vic instinctively rolled out of the way, tumbling forward and to the right to avoid the removal of his head. At the same time, he slashed outward toward his foe's open lower body, causing Guildenstern to shift his position awkwardly, only just blocking the strike.

The Imperial Knight captain recovered quickly and raised his blade to attack once again- until suddenly, he was thrown aside by a stream of lightning, hurling him several feet into the air.

Vic turned with surprise to see Rosencrantz slowly standing up, his face grim, one arm outstretched, energy still crackling around his fingertips. It seemed this bounty hunter was more than he appeared.

Neesa, meanwhile, was back on land, but kept her distance from her opponents, clearly too cautious to make the first move.

Sydney was bent on being infuriating. That was about the one thing Kara felt comfortable agreeing with the Imperial Knights on: she was getting thoroughly sick of his games, and so were they. Despite everything, though, she felt a burst of indignant outrage at being called a "little Jedi", all the more so because Sydney felt compelled to defend her.

"This conversation is over," announced Grissom. "We will take the Rood from you by force."

"The Rood?" Kara said slowly. They ignored her.

"Will you just stand there?" called Sydney to Kara, dropping onto his knees. "And let them kill an unarmed prisoner?"

"Don't interfere, Zeltron," hissed Duane without looking around.

Kara looked wildly between him and the advancing Imperial Knights, torn. Her heart thudded painfully in her chest; what should she do? The Jedi Council's briefing had been clear: slay or arrest Sydney, and avoid conflict with the Imperial Knights. She had already violated the latter once and would rather not do so again, and she did not think for a second that Sydney was really unarmed ... yet ... orders or no, it would be wrong to let them execute Sydney in cold blood. That was not the Jedi way.

She had no time to wrestle with that little moral quandary. On a more practical level, then: either she helped Sydney, or did nothing. Either Sydney would die, or the Imperials would.

If she aided Sydney and the Imperial Knights died, she would be violating her orders again, this time in two entirely separate ways. It was absurd that she was even considering it.

If she did nothing and Sydney died, she would have accomplished one of her objectives. But there was no telling if they would subsequently decide to kill her, especially once they found out about Tieger - and she would have been party to murder.

I am going to regret this. With a heavy heart, Kara ignited her blade and stepped in front of Sydney, placing herself squarely in the path of the Grissom and Duane.

    Chapter Three: Showdowns

    Snowfly Forest

With a heavy heart, Kara ignited her blade and stepped in front of Sydney, placing herself squarely in the path of the Grissom and Duane. As she did she felt a strange feeling ripple through her body, strengthening her. She felt faster, more powerful, more alert. She did not know whether the power she was receiving was from the dark or from the light- but it was not coming from within her. And then she remembered Sydney's presence, and she had her answer.

Her two opponents did not even say a word as she blocked their path. They exchanged the briefest of glances with each other before launching into an attack. Duane dropped to a squat and slashed low at Kara's knees, while Grissom let his blade fly in a wide arc aimed at her neck.

Once again, the young Zeltron found herself engaging two Imperial Knights in combat, and once again, someone was going to die.

OOC: My mistake. I wasn't sure so I tried to make my response to that a bit ambiguous...guess it didn't work. :p And what the heck is going on with this bounty hunter guy!? :p

    IC: Vic Horkin
    ~City of Leá Monde~

Vic swore to himself when the Imperial Knight managed to somehow block the strike. It seemed like a sure thing, but this just made Vic even more cautious. He had known that Guildenstern was extremely talented, but the captain of the Imperial Knight just proved he was an exceptional duelist, able to position himself to block unexpected moves.

As the Jedi came to his feet, a sense of danger crept up his back like it normally did. He instinctively rose his blade but was met with only air, rather than a sizzling energy blade. He was even more surprised as to why there had been no attack. Guildenstern was no longer in front of him. Instead, the Imperial Knight had been thrown aside by blue-white bolts of energy that Vic recognized instantly as a Force Lightning attack. His stomach instantly dropped, thinking that Sydney had managed to show up. However, when Vic traced the lightning back to its origin, he was surprised to see that it was Jan Rosencrantz who was hurling the lightning.

What the... Vic thought. Who was this guy? Obviously, the man wass very talented in the Force, having been able to conceal his affinity for the Force in the presence of Vic and his Jedi companions. The fact that Jan was a friend of the Bardobas made a little more sense than before. Perhaps he had trained under Sydney as a Sith.

Soon, the Jedi realized that he had no time to dwell on these thoughts. He would return to them once he was clear of the Imperial Knights. Vic thought on what he should do next. He saw Neesa return to land, but staying too far away to attack. Romeo Guildenstern was not too far away, and he was injured from the Sith Lightning. If Vic attacked fast, perhaps he would catch the Imperial Knight off guard.

The Jedi did just that, lunging with blinding speed. With both sabers ignited, he sliced down upon Guildenstern, keeping his other blade back in case the Knight managed to avoid and counter. Vic did not aim for a killing blow however. The attack was aimed to incapacitate the man by slicing removing his legs, leaving him without any lower limbs on which to stand.

Hehe, I'm having a great time. Seems like I rarely get to play a character right in the thick of things, and as a bonus, everybody here can write. Fantastically good fun. :D

    IC: Kara Dysar

    Snowfly Forest

Kara accepted Sydney's power without question and felt it course through her body, energizing her and augmenting her own draw on the Force. Deep down, accepting help from the very man she was supposed to be hunting down made her uneasy - but she knew she could not take on both Imperial Knights without it. Had rather counted on his participation, in fact: if she was defending him, he kriffing well should help her.

This was going to be very difficult to explain to the Jedi Council.

Grissom and Duane exchanged the briefest of glances with each other before launching into an attack. Kara saw it as if in slow motion: Duane, on her right, dropped to a squat and slashed low at her knees, while Grissom's blade arced at her neck. Evidently they meant to catch her between them, but the Force showed her a way out: there was about a metre to spare between their blades, space which she could make good use of.

As their blades swept in, the Zeltron Jedi launched herself forward between them in a smooth, twisting leap. Not quite directly forward: the motion carried her closer to Grissom than Duane, and Kara's lightsaber, held in her left hand, was aimed directly at his body.

Then she was past, and she landed a couple of metres away, rolling quickly up to a combat stance to face the Imperial Knights once again.

Nem: Yeah, Rosencrantz is definitely a strange one...there's a mystery soon to be uncovered here!

Xan: That's great, it certainly is a fast-paced, action-orientated sort of story! I'm glad that you're enjoying it.

    Tircolas Flow

Vic was confused by the...electrifying...intervention. He now had even less idea than before of who Rosencrantz was, but figured that it was possible he had trained as a Sith under Sydney. It would explain how he knew the Bardobas, as well as his startling strength in the Force.

But, as ever, there was no time to dwell on these thoughts. He decided to attack Guildenstern instead of Neesa, lunging forth with blinding speed, both sabers ignited.

The attack was made with one blade, a slicing strike designed to remove the legs of his foe. But the leader of the Imperial Knights was a difficult opponent to incapacitate. The man had seemed stunned, but recovered enough to roll backwards and flip himself onto his feet, narrowly avoiding Vic's attack. The saber came close enough to burn through the armour at his right thigh.

Guildenstern immediately adopted a defensive stance, backing slowly away. The sounds of blasterfire rang out nearby, followed almost immediately by the sound of a lightsaber humming through the air to block the lasers. If Vic had a moment to glance around, he would have seen Rosencrantz engaging Neesa in combat, attempting to shoot the Knight down while she redirected his attacks.

"We need to get out of here!" Vic heard the bounty hunter yell. The exclamation was followed by more words, but these ones rang out inside the Jedi's head...

My jetpack has enough to get us both clear if we move fast

Meanwhile, Samantha had woken up, and was struggling to lift herself from the ground...

    Tag: nemisis

    Snowfly Forest

Kara saw the attack as if in slow motion, the sign of an experienced combatant. And certainly the young Zeltron had been through her fair share of fighting during her brief time in the City.

Duane, on her right, dropped to a squat and slashed low at her knees, while Grissom's blade arced at her neck. Evidently they meant to catch her between them, but the Force showed her a way out: there was about a metre to spare between their blades, space which she could make good use of.

As their blades swept in, the Zeltron Jedi launched herself forward between them in a clever but ambitious maneuver. However, Kara was a practitioner of Ataru, and her experience of that form's acrobatics certainly assisted her in this case. The leap was perfectly executed, and she landed a couple of metres away, rolling up and back into a combat stance.

She saw that she had managed to wound Grissom on her way through, cutting a long gash through the armour at his stomach. At first it seemed as if the attack had not reached her opponent's flesh- but then she saw the grimace on his face, and knew that she had drawn blood.

Duane seemed to sense his partner's pain, as he stepped in front to lead the next attack, launching a series of quick jabs at Kara's upper torso. Grissom seemed to be simply hanging back, but soon Kara felt pressure being applied upon her throat, trying to lift her off the ground by her neck.

Sydney, meanwhile, had backed away slightly, and was busy drawing some sort of circle on the ground with his fingers. He was chanting to himself.

    "Varo-rohm-sha-meleth-tara-sath-dahn-veleth..."

Vic could not believe that the Imperial Knight had recovered so quickly. He did not know personally - and hoped he never would - how painful Force Lightning was, but had a feeling it was not a good feeling. Add to that that Imperial Knights usually wore armor, which would most likely amplify the pain, how quickly Guildenstern recovered was even more impressive.

The sound of blasterfire came from behind the Jedi and the leader of the Imperial Knights. Vic did not look to see the source of it, he knew that Jan had gotten involved once again - looking back would most likely cost him his life. But, why had Jan decided to use his blaster? Surely he knew that blasters were practically ineffective against a lightsaber. The bounty hunter continued to show his mysterious nature.

"We need to get out of here!" Vic heard Jan yell over the sound of blasterfire and ignited lightsabers. My jetpack has enough to get us both clear if we move fast, the bounty hunter continued. Though, this time, it was more clearly heard over the sound and it took Vic a few moments to realize that Rosencrantz had spoken those words through the Force, only heard by Vic and no one else.

Vic nodded, and decided to press the attack while Guildenstern was on the defense in hopes to catch the man off guard in order to make a move towards Jan. The Jedi sent his right blade up high in a feint attack. The real attack was with his right leg which was soaring towards the mid-section of Guildenstern. His left blade held back for defense in case the Imperial Knight had sensed the feint attack. If this worked, Vic would make an attempt to lunge towards Jan in hopes of escaping.

Kara saw that she had wounded Grissom, but there was no time to press her advantage - Duane was there, pressing her hard with a series of quick strikes at her torso. Kara parried, backing away. She had a moment to wonder why Grissom was hanging back before she felt pressure around her throat, as if an invisible hand was trying to lift her off the ground -

Ah. Did all Imperial Knights use the same tricks?

This time there was no convenient wall to pull down, but another solution presented itself. Kara swept her blade down to block a particularly nasty slash and shoved forward as hard as she could, both physically and with the Force. If all went as planned, Duane would be shoved a few steps back into Grissom and break both their concentrations.

And hopefully they wouldn't take notice of Sydney before he finished doing ... whatever he was doing.

Vic decided to press his attack while Guildenstern was on the defense in hopes to catch the man off guard in order to make a move towards Jan. The Jedi Investigator sent his right blade up high, and Guildenstern adjusted his position to guard- only to be caught in the midriff by Vic's real attack, a plunging kick to the gut. It smacked off his armour but was enough to send the man falling onto his backside.

Vic, meanwhile, seized the opportunity to race towards Rosencrantz, seizing the man's leg just as the jetpack blasted violently into life and the bounty hunter rose from the ground.

"Hold tight!" cried Rosencrantz, still firing his blasters downwards towards Neesa, who continued to deflect them away from her position at the stream's edge.

Suddenly Samantha, who had been crawling along the ground, managed to push herself up and into a jump, grabbing hold of Vic's foot. She still seemed dazed but kept a strong grip as they began to fly, meaning that there were three people soaring into the air, dangling by arms and legs.

"Get her off!" yelled Rosencrantz, clearly having problems keeping steady.

    Snowfly Forest

Once again Kara faced Imperial Knight tactics as one engaged in combat while the other attempted to grip her neck using the Force. With no huts around to collapse, the Zeltron was forced to think fast.

She swept her blade down to block a particularly nasty slash, locking in with her opponent for the briefest of moments before shoving forward as hard as she could, both physically and with the Force. As she did so, she once again felt Sydney's dark touch flow through her, strengthening her at the crucial moment-

And her attack was even more powerful than she expected, hurling Duane off his feet and into Grissom so hard that both of them were knocked to the ground.

As Kara stood there, arm still extended, she felt a strange tingling in her fingers and forearm. Sydney was in her head, empowering her...encouraging her. She had seen Force lightning in practice before, even had it directed at her...and now she felt as if it would be the easiest, most natural thing in the world just to let an arc of electricity stream from her hand and into her two foes. They were stunned- she could have them at her mercy within moments.

As the young Jedi decided whether to fight or succumb to the urge she felt, Sydney continued to draw his shapes in the dust...

    ... [face_mischief]

    IC: Kara Dysar

    Snowfly Forest

Just as Kara let fly with the Force, she felt Sydney's touch on her mind, felt his power join hers for a crucial moment - and to her surprise, Duane was lifted clear off his feet and hurled into Grissom so hard that they both went down in a tangled heap.

Kara stood there, arm still outstretched. That had been ... unexpected, but not unwelcome. It seemed oddly reminiscent of her earlier fight with Tieger and Neesa, where she had inadvertently used more power than she meant to when pulling the wall down - but this time it was not the dark side at work, but Sydney.

At the back of her mind, she knew this was a technical distinction.

Her fingers tingled. Duane and Grissom were, for the next few moments, utterly helpless - and the thought rose unbidden that this was the time to press her advantage. Usually, she would have thought twice about attacking people when they were down, but the Imperial Knights would show no such mercy.

Force lightning would teach them a lesson, Kara thought distantly. She had never used it before, but she had observed it often enough ... and in that instant, she knew how it was done. It was so easy; Kara almost laughed. Was this how simple it really was? It seemed the most natural thing in the world to let an arc of electricity stream from her hand.

Force lightning was of the dark side, she knew that. But Kara didn't feel dark; she didn't even feel angry. She didn't feel much of anything at all.

    No time. Choose and act.

Her goal was to neutralize Duane and Grissom by any means necessary. Lightning would get it done. In the end, did it matter whether she killed them by the Force or by lightsaber? They would be just as dead.

Calmly, Kara flexed her fingers ever so slightly. Lightning flew from her fingertips.

Indeed she is. The City has certainly placed a lot of stress upon our young Zeltron...mwahahahahaha!

    Snowfly Forest

    Choose and act.

Kara made her choice, and acted upon it. She saw the momentary shock in the faces of her foes as they sensed what was to come, but they could not move quickly enough.

Lightning flew from the Jedi's fingertips, blasting into Grissom and Duane so hard that they were tossed several feet back, with scorch marks left in the dust. Their limbs shook like those of ragdolls, their lightsabers falling from their jerking hands. The arc of electricity grew stronger, seeming to feed off itself, chaining from one body to the other and back, trapping them in a net of blue fire.

Suddenly an eerie white light seemed to surround the dying pair, and for a moment it seemed as if their violent throes had produced some sort of death-aura...but then Kara noticed that the light was coming from the snowflies, who had curiously returned, swarming above the two Knights.

As a Zeltron, Kara should have felt the pain of her victims screaming out to her...but the presence of the snowflies seemed to mask it with a soothing sense of contentment and peace.

She did notice, however, that the skin of both Grissom and Duane was now heavily charred, and that the pair were lapsing into unconsciousness from the agony. A few more seconds would be enough to kill them both.

Perhaps this realisation would be enough to make Kara break off her assault...or perhaps she had already decided to go for the kill. Sydney had finished his drawings, and stood quietly nearby, apparently waiting to see what she would do. She no longer felt his presence in her head- her decision was her own.

No kidding. Kara's starting to crack completely under the pressure. [face_worried]

... I'm lovin' it. :D Wonder what Vic will think, if/when they meet again...

    Snowfly Forest

Lightning erupted from Kara's fingertips, blasting Duane and Grissom so hard that they were thrown backwards, scorch marks trailing them in the dust. Their lightsabers shut off, falling from hands no longer able to grip as the two men spasmed wildly in the dust. Lightning arced from one Imperial Knight to another as if feeding upon itself, playing across their bodies like a net of blue fire.

Kara tilted her head, fascinated. Was their armour acting as a conductor...?

It occurred to her that she ought to be feeling their pain. Suddenly an eerie white light seemed to surround the dying pair, and for a moment it seemed as their spirits were literally leaving their dying bodies - mildly astonished, Kara halted her electrical assault to stare. Tieger hadn't - but then the light shifted, shimmering, and Kara realized the snowflies had returned. And they were, as before, emanating a sense of contentment and peace that seemed completely at odds with the twitching, heavily charred pair at her feet.

Actually ... Duane and Grissom were no longer moving, or screaming, or doing anything at all. They were lapsing into unconsciousness, their minds shutting down from the pain.

The silence in the clearing was broken by their raspy breathing, the gentle buzz of the snowflies' wings as they hovered around the dying men, and the not-so-gentle hum of her own lightsaber, still ignited and held at her side. Kara could feel her heart hammering in her chest, hear the sound of her own breathing, oddly ragged ... a few more seconds of lightning and Duane and Grissom would die, that much was clear. As things stood, they might die anyway, unless the snowflies had healing powers as well as hypnotic.

Lightning jerked their muscles once again, and when she lowered her hand at last, their raspy breathing could no longer be heard.

Now the silence was broken only by the hum of her lightsaber.

Kara pivoted sharply. Sydney was standing quietly nearby, and in an eyeblink, her green blade was at his neck. "Now," the Jedi Knight, who was perhaps no longer entirely Jedi, said quietly, "no more games. Tell me what this is all about, Sydney."

OOC: Oh yes, everyone will be reunited again near the finish...it's all coming together.

    Snowfly Forest

In the heart of the forest there was death, and there was silence.

It was broken by the menacing hum of a lightsaber. Sydney Losstarot found the green blade at his neck, though he did not seem concerned.

"Now," said Kara quietly, "no more games. Tell me what this is all about, Sydney."

For a moment there was no answer, and the snowflies continued to flutter busily around the two corpses, resembling luminous flies swarming over carrion.

"The City whispers to me," replied the Mullenkamp leader with a thin smile. "Of darkness, of decay, and of every death. Three Imperial Knights now fallen by your hand. I did not expect such steel in the soul of a Jedi Knight."

The drawings he had been making on the ground started to shimmer with a faint light.

"As you may have guessed," he continued, "this is not about the kidnap of my brother. Yes indeed, Joshua is my brother, and Moff Bardoba my dear old father. Your Council was ill-informed as usual. The Emperor was aware, however...and so his Knights arrived with that particular advantage over you."

Kara glanced down at the drawings which were now pulsing with blue and white light, and saw that they were a series of arcane symbols...centered around two stick figures...

"This is about a test," said Sydney. "And thanks to you, three have failed already..."

The drawings were now ablaze- and behind Kara, the burned bodies of Grissom and Duane shuddered back to life, rising to their feet with inhuman, blood-curdling shrieks. In the instant Kara took to look at them, Sydney was gone. His voice echoed in her head.

Will you be next, little Jedi?

Of all the things Sydney could have said, this was not what Kara had expected. That he knew about Tieger's death surprised her, but not overly so; that Joshua was his brother, on the other hand, Kara had not anticipated. Why would he kidnap his own brother? Her surprise rippled out before she thought to contain it, though Sydney ignored it entirely.

"This is about a test," said Sydney. "And thanks to you, three have failed already..."

"A test?" Kara said suspiciously. The drawings on the ground, which she had been watching warily as Sydney spoke, were now fully ablaze, and from behind her issued inhuman, blood-curdling shrieks. Kara whirled to see Grissom and Duane's charred bodies rising back to life, just like the bodies in the tunnel. Belatedly, she realized that though it was still daytime, sunlight did not penetrate the forest's dense canopy.

"What are you playing at?" Kara demanded, spinning back to face Sydney - but he was gone. Only his voice lingered in the air and in her mind: Will you be next, little Jedi? Anger coursed through her veins. "Why did you bring me here? No more games! Answer me!"

She was shouting at thin air.

With a frustrated growl, Kara backed away from the the beings that had once been Grissom and Duane, lightsaber held defensively in front of her. She had fought corpses before - but she suspected reanimated Imperial Knights were not the same as a bunch of long-fallen miners. Would they retain any of the skills they had known in life: Force sensitivity, martial prowess? No way to know without fighting them, and two on one were still not good odds.

I did not expect such steel in the soul of a Jedi Knight, Sydney had said.

Despite everything, Kara felt a wave of despair. There was good reason for that: Jedi Knights did not kill in cold blood. Jedi Knights especially did not kill when ordered to avoid conflict, in the defence of one they had been ordered to kill or capture. Kara had done a great many things today that perhaps were unacceptable for a Jedi Knight to do, and she had done so without a second thought ... and would likely do so again, if given the choice.

She had lost something today; something she couldn't quite quantify, but was perhaps irreplaceable. But in exchange, she had gained something - more. Kara flexed her fingers thoughtfully, the memory of sparks exploding from those fingertips rising unbidden - no, that wouldn't work again. Only a blow to the head or spine had felled the corpses in the tunnel, and that was likely to be the same case here.

Well. She had beat them once; she would do so again. The Zeltron drew upon the Force again, this time for speed. The corpses would be slower than they had been in life, if nothing else - with that in mind, Kara sidestepped and darted forward, her form a blur as she aimed a blow at Grissom's head and, equally fast, withdrew. Hit-and-run tactics were not usually her style, but would serve for the moment until she figured out their capabilities.

Vic had successfully knocked his opponent - Guildenstern - over, and took that opportunity to escape with the Bounty Hunter. The Jedi placed his lightsabers on his belt and ran with all the speed he could muster in order to latch onto the leg of Rosencrantz. Had he not used the Force to boost his speed, he probably would not have made it seeing as he just barely caught the foot of the bounty hunter.

"Hold tight!" Jan yelled as he propelled them upwards while, at the same time, continuing to fire at the Imperial Knight by the stream. His shots were more accurate than what Vic would have expected since the man was guiding not only himself, but Vic as well, with the jet pack. There was no doubt that this man was using the Force to keep himself in line.

Suddenly, Vic felt pressure on his right foot which yanked the pair down ever so slightly. He looked down and saw the Imperial Knight that he had crushed under the debris of the fallen shack, Samantha, grasping onto his foot. Jan obviously felt the added weight of the Imperial Knight, his flying a little less balanced. "Get her off!" he yelled over the sound of the blaring jet pack.

Vic was not sure if he would be able to hold on to the leg of Jan with just one hand, thinking the weight of Samantha would be too much to handle, which would cause a problem if he decided to use his lightsaber. While he thought, he violently shook his leg, which would probably do more harm than good; the shifting of the weight would probably throw Rosencrantz's flying off balance. With seemingly no other options left - at least none that he could think of - Vic decided to use his lightsaber.

The Jedi let go with his left hand, strengthening the grip of his right hand with the Force, and grabbed for his lightsaber. Flicking it on, he kicked his leg forward in hopes of getting a decent look on Samantha. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he sent the blade sailing towards the elbow of the Imperial Knight, keeping clear of his own leg, yet attacking a place that would most certainly get Samantha off.

Vic's first response was to shake violently, causing Rosencrantz to veer dangerously towards a nearby building before managing to correct his course. They were now at least twenty feet high and rising rapidly, as the bounty hunter tried to steer them over to the other side of the river.

Vic decided to remove their unwanted passenger with his lightsaber. He let go with his left hand, strengthening the grip of his right hand with the Force, and grabbed for his lightsaber. Flicking it on, he kicked his leg forward in hopes of getting a decent look on Samantha. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he sent the blade sailing towards the elbow of the Imperial Knight, keeping clear of his own leg.

The female Knight was not a fool- and with very little room to maneuver, she had no other option.

    She let go.

The saber grazed her elbow as she plummeted. Vic glanced at her and saw that instead of becoming a sticky mess on the ground, her landing had been almost completely softened by Guildenstern, who stood below, using the Force to cushion the fall of his comrade.

As Samantha was lowered gently back onto solid ground, Guildenstern looked up, his face furious, rage pouring out of him through the Force...and then it was over, and Vic and Rosencrantz were safely away, leaving their three foes behind.

A moment later they landed somewhat roughly in the shade of a crumbling watch tower in the north of the city, and the pair finally had a chance to catch their breath.

    Snowfly Forest

Kara drew upon the Force once again, quickening her actions. She sidestepped and darted forward in colourful and lightning fast blur, aiming a blow at Grissom's head and withdrawing with equal speed. Hit-and-run was the only strategy she could use until she had determined the capabilities of her foes.

As she wheeled back around she saw that her strike had decapitated Grissom, and his head dropped cleanly from his neck.

To her surprise, the head looked up at her, and grinned.

The body continued to move of its own accord, lighting up its saber and swinging at its foe, apparently without the need for vision. The head stayed on the ground, spitting out huge globules of something that was certainly not saliva- the foul liquid was burning the ground that it landed upon.

Why these undead could survive dismemberment was a mystery- perhaps it was because they were Force Users, or perhaps because it had been Sydney who brought them back to life. But there was no time to ponder the differences.

The undead Duane was still whole in body, and lurched forward into his own attack, slashing down and overhand towards Kara.

Vic was satisfied when his plan had partially worked. He did not injure the Imperial Knight, but she did let go and plummeted towards the ground at high speeds from the fairly lengthy fall. Looking down, Vic expected to see Samantha either unconscious or dead from the fall. However, she had not even hit the ground yet. Unfortunately, Guildenstern had arrived to cushion her fall with the Force, his face flustered with anger.

The Jedi Knight could not help but be annoyed by the fact that Samantha had survived the fall. It would have been one less Imperial Knight to worry about while trying to complete the mission. Though, he was a Jedi Knight, he was not suppose to have those feelings. He was not even suppose to engage them, let alone wish death upon them. This was not the first time that this city had changed him. Earlier on, he had ignored the mission to follow an illusion of his lost lover, he had grown angry during the duel with Sydney and now he was hoping his opponents would die so he did not have to worry about them. Vic, and his Jedi companions had to finish this mission as soon as possible before it changed them for good.

Within moments, Rosencrantz and Vic had landed safely and out of range of the Imperial Knights. Vic was glad for this break, able to catch his breath. He wanted to keep moving, to hurry up and find this boy. Yet, there was still questions that Vic needed Jan to answer. "Alright," he said, his breath finally returning to him. "You need to explain further...Who are you? Where did you learn the Force?" His voice was stern and he stood as still as a statue. He needed answers, and he wanted them now.

Rosencrantz stepped forward into the city, after the darkness of the tunnels the fresh air and sunlight seemed to breath light into Kimara. She could not help but feeling as if a weight was lifted from her shoulders, though a small part of her mind warned to keep her wits about her.

This was not over, not even close.

"We will work better if we split into two teams," Rosencrantz suggested. "You and I-" he said, pointing to Vic"-will head northwards, to the Snowfly Forest. You two-" he gestured to Kimara and Anengy"-should go south, towards the Temple of Kiltia. I believe the boy we look for will be found at one of these locales, but we must move quickly to outpace the Empire's Knights."

Kimara did not relish the idea of splitting up, Kara was already on her own, and though Kimara suspected she was still alive the idea of further fractioning the compainions did not sit well with her. Vic seemed to hesitate only a moment before agreeing, and offering a quick blessing toward Anengy and herself.

The young Arkanian nodded to Vic and Rosenthal, then looking toward Anengy commented, "Well, no time like the present right?" Waiting would only give the Imperial Knights an edge, and at this moment Kimara wanted wanted nothing more than to find this boy and ensure his safety.

To her satisfaction, Kara wheeled around to see that her strike had decapitated Grissom. That was one Imperial Knight out of the picture -

    The head grinned at her.

It spat. Kara jumped back automatically, and found her instinct was the right one: whatever it was spitting, it wasn't saliva, unless human saliva routinely burned the ground it landed on. Oh, this was not good: decapitation didn't work, and now she had to dance around the head to avoid the acid - in fact, she would have to be wary of Duane spitting it too.

Apparently without need for vision, the body ignited its lightsaber and swung ponderously at Kara. She blocked, backing away - then had to wheel around and intercept a strike from Duane, who entered the fray with a overhand slash. Kara blocked it at high guard and summoned the Force again, throwing its power at him in an attempt to knock him to the ground.

Her mind worked furiously. They apparently did not share a weakness with the corpses in the tunnel. What would she have to do, cut them into tiny pieces so they couldn't follow?

Actually - that might work. Kara spun and slashed at Grissom's body, attempting to cut his legs out from under him.
