    Captain Carroth
    Bridge- Pellaeon-Class Star Destroyer ?Imperator?

?Sir! The freighter hasn?t broken its course!?

Hands clasped behind his back, Captain Carroth shot his head around towards the sensor officer and then back to his lieutenant, his brow furrowing in frustration. ?I had a feeling it would come to this. Lieutenant, tell the pilots to scramble a squadron of Predators! I want the Decimator herded within tractor range of either the Imperator or the Indomitable. I want that ship in our custody immediately!?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Torrent Squadron Leader
    Above Malastare

?Stay in tight formation until we receive visual contact,? the Commander called out over their private comm. channel to his fellow pilots. Individually, each of the eleven fighters reported in and the Sienar Predators rocketed away from the docking bay of their parent cruiser.

Within several minutes, as they followed the projected course fed down to them from the Imperator, the old VT-49 came within sight. However, as they neared, something odd began to occur.

?My sensors? on?.<zzzt>fritz, lead,? Torrent Four called through the static over the come.

?They must be jamming us. Torrents 2 through 6, you?re with me. Torrents 7 through 9, come up on they 9:00. Torrents 10 through 12, you?re on their 3. We?ll be on their 6. Try not to destroy them. Just goad them towards the big boys??

"Contact, eleven Predators on our way," Kraid earlier called out to the turrets. "You should see them on your scopes. Keep watch."

Kraid tried his best to keep the nervousness out of his voice as he watched the sensor display, the eleven contacts getting closer and closer to the Gamble. He nervously shook his leg hard enough that it banged the console. That should teach him...

"Turrets, Predators splitting up, coming on our port, starboard, and stern. You should have visual! Light 'em up before they do the same to us!"

"Arrul," he quickly called out, "we got the missiles armed so if we get a Predator in front of us, fire away!"

"Let's just take 'em all to the medbay. Carry a canister each."

"Don't warry," Dow said. "You two con stai heere." If they insisted on helping, he certainly wouldn't stop them, but he could probably make three trips down the corridor in the time it would take Tal or Dervin to make one. Using the same hand, he tucked one canister under his armpit and picked up another. That would be all he could carry. "Maybe you squeeze patchees, yes?" he said hastily, turning and running to the medbay.

Zhaelor'dau all but sprinted down the Decimator's main corridor and burst into the medbay. "Doctor Duroth, heere ees the bacta!" he panted, placing the canisters on a small patch of clear counter space nearby. He carefully placed one, then the other, so as not to break them. He turned to the Arkanian. "Ees thees ee-nough?" If not there were a few more canisters, and then the packets of patches.

    Yiddim
    -Lady Fate Casino

At one moment, Yiddim had been mumbling in his sleep about Government Conspiracies and spacer boots and at the next, he found himself under the bed, shaking, like some kind of animal. His fur changed colors as he relized that the thunder that had awoke him was, in reality, just a thunderously loud knock at his door, followed by a deep, slightly untranslatable blabber about breakfast.

So, he had fallen peacefully to sleep with no disturbance.

And he had also just wet his trousers.

"Yes, I would like some breakfast, thank you." Yiddim proceeded to take off his clothes and throw them high onto the chair beside the nightstand. The savrips came in just as he had cut holes in a brown rag and made himself a coat.

Yiddim looked at the savrips and decided to make a mental note for the future. It seemed that now as he had looked back on his life, Yiddim realized that had often been faced with large obstacles and had plotted his way through them, most of the time. In his head, he knew that he could be killed with a single step from these massive creatures or a particularly strong gust of wind. However in his heart, deep in his heart, he had always known this and still proceeded to go on with his dangerous pursuits. If there was an equation to life, the Kushibah, or rather his idiotic defiance against Rationalism, was the X and Y was his universe, as it depended on what he did and how he interpreted it.

That would make for a wonderful opening to Chapter Ten of his novel! Though, he still needed a name.

"To relieve me?" Jasen let out an audible sigh. "How the hell did EssGee know I was drinking?"

The Gamble suddenly throttled with power, and the comm busted with chatter. Jasen turned back around in his chair, listening and learning that 11 fighters were on their way. It looked like they would be using the turrets after all. Jasen swiveled back to Elis.

"Fine, but you make sure you kriffing destroy each one in your path. Understand?" Jasen stood up, taking his ale with him and stood behind the chair to let the Givin through.

Just as soon as Dow had taken his hand from the bacta canisters the ship lurched terribly as the Sullustan pilot hit the accelerators. The canisters began to slide off the counter they had just been placed on. Time seemed to slow down to the Vong as he watched them slide, knowing what was about to happen. The canisters tilted to the lip of the counter and had almost plunged over. Zhaelor'dau whipped around back to the bacta as quickly as he could. He managed to place a hand on one canister and push it to safety just before it tilted over the edge of the counter.

The other fell, and Dow reflexively winced. The canister struck the ground with a sharp thwak. he sighed in relief when he saw that the canister had not shattered, but since it was intended to see use in emergencies, he guessed it did make sense that it was durable. Zhaelor'dau held the saved canister to the wall while he waited for the ship to even out, but before he could even look up to the Doctor and the others he noticed viscous bacta pooling under the fallen canister. It had cracked somewhere, apparently. As soon as he felt steady again a moment or two later he picked up the broken can and tilted it so the crack faced up. There was a puddle of bacta on the floor about 30 centimeters in diameter, but the rest of the bacta in the container was still probably usable.

Everything had happened in the span of a few seconds. Zhaelor'dau rolled his apologetic gaze up to the Doctor and the others in the medbay.

    Elis Gyrr
    Turret Pod

Elis flipped his palms to the sky and shrugged as best as his frame would allow, but said nothing. Elis leaned back, to allow the gunner out of his chair and then replaced him in it. He ran his hands over the targeting computer and the turret controls. It was a simple system, and Elis picked it up immediately. In fact, the strategy was, essentially, to aim with the computer and pull the trigger back.

Elis pulled back on the handles and then pushed them forward, experimentally. She turned the pod to the left, towards the bow of the craft. The predators did indeed appear on the computer next to him, as tiny blips. In total, there were eleven. Elis calculated velocity and the percentage risk of targeting each fighter, in his head. He picked the third fighter from the back, as his first target, and then followed another with his eyes.

When the fighters were closing in on 2000 km, Elis fired off a unprovoked shot. The laser arc and flew slightly up. There was a miniscule kick from the turret. Elis blinked quickly and then turned the controls of the fighter. As he had suspected, the group of eleven, branched into two formations of six and five, in preparation for an assault. Realizing that the turret was giving upwards, and having an intense confidence in his own mathematical computations, Elis felt safer firing from his own aim. With his eyes on the original fighter, in the group of six, Elis fired without locking on to his target.

His shot had not been perfect, obviously, but it had come pretty damn close to it. Though the Predator-class fighters came equipped with shielding, the Gamble?s turbolasers had more than enough juice to tear through the deflectors. With what would seem like a practiced hand, Elis turned his turret to take on another target.

The doctor looked from the Vong crew member to the fallen canister, then reversed the process, and finally sighed. "Not anymore. Leave what you've got on the counter there, and go bring any spare bacta left over. Unless, of course, you wish your captain and fellow shipmate to enter the realm of the deceased a touch prematurely, in which case you may continue as your are. Also, bring me any tubing you can dig out of the cargo hold. The source material doesn't matter, as long as it can transfer liquid substances effectively."

OOC: For our turret and missile combat, this?ll work exactly as ground combat did. You pick your target, fire your shot, I?ll role the die and then tell you if you hit or not. Combat is not your only option, though, so if our pilots think they can outmaneuver the ships and escape, do so.

    IC: Torrent Squadron
    The Skies Over Malastare

As directed, the squadron broke into three groups, six fighters coming up on the Decimator from behind while three came towards their left and three came towards their right. As they moved into formation two shots rang out from the ship?s lower turret, one flying off and up into the atmosphere and one just barely missing the rear Predator on their six.

?Slag? they almost vaped me,? Torrent Eight complained boisterously over the comm.

?Cut the chatter and focus on the mission, Eight.?

With the freighter essentially boxed in, the Imperial fighters fired off the occasional shot, glancing them off of its shields, while slowly goading the larger ship into heading into range of the Star Destroyers above. So far, so good.

    Corridor, Fool's Gamble

Tal ignored Dow and staggered determinedly down the corridor. Unfortunately, the fastest he could manage was a slow shuffle, which was a far cry from the tall biologist's sprint. Damn.

The ship lurched suddenly. Tal, predictably, fell over. The bacta patch went flying ... but the canister fell on him, slamming into his stomach with all the force of a sledgehammer. "Oof," he groaned. That hurt. Grimacing, he grabbed for the bacta patch and hauled himself back upright.

Then he noticed his arm was bleeding again. Double damn. Tal touched it and winced; he must have landed on his arm in the fall, just like the canister had landed on him.

Tal wasn't entirely sure how he made it back to the medbay, but he did. Rather ungracefully, he dumped the canister and patch on a convenient countertop and sagged against the wall. "There," he muttered. "Bacta ... and, uh, Doc, could you fix up my arm again?"

Sure, blame the Yuuzhan Vong. It was the story of Dow's life. The sudden jolt of the accelerators had caused the bacta to fall, but there was no time to argue. As he was about to leave, Tal entered the medbay and asked to be treated. Zhaelor'dau ran back to the cargo hold.

"Thee doctor wants tubeeng az well," he told Dervin-Joss hurriedly as he entered. "For I.V's, I suppose." He went immediately to the storage locker and pulled out the remaining two bacta canisters. He turned out of the cargo hold and ran as fast as he could to the medbay. He put the other canisters on the counter, safely this time. And this time he didn't wait, immediately sprinting back down the corridor to get more bacta from the patches in the medbay.

    Kraid Tynne

"Arrul, do something," the engineer shouted out, half-panicked. "They're herding us towards the destroyer, and I'm in no mood for an interrogation today!"

He activated his comm to the gunners. "Turrets! Don't just sit there! Shoot! That's what the triggers are for on your guns! Kill 'em!"

Feeling completely helpless, the only thing Kraid could think of doing was to continue to jam the Predators. Whether it actually worked or not, he sure didn't know, but at least it gave him the illusion of doing something productive towards their escape. He frantically paged through the options and settings on the ship's electronic warfare display (there weren't that many) and tried to applied some logic. The last frequencies he tried to jam were in a range that, at least in his experience, Imp fighters liked to use for comms. If these guys are trying to herd them towards a star destroyer, maybe he could try to jam their sensors so they'd lose track of where they were going. This was tricky; it wasn't exactly common knowledge what frequencies the Predator's sensors worked on. But having a past life of a dirty mercenary that learned from other engineers who had experience dealing with Imps did have its advantages.

Making his best guess, Kraid punched in a frequency range that he hoped would corrupt the sensors of the Predators. Unfortunately, the Gamble's sensors happened to fall in that range. Someone didn't design the cargo-laden Decimators to be electronic warfare platforms. What an oversight. But who needed sensors, anyway?

Initiating the jamming, he spoke out to Arrul. "Uh, you might see some funny things on our sensors. Or, maybe nothing at all."

This was getting ridiculous now. Imp fighters were literally swarming all sections of the freighter and all Arrul could do was helplessly watch and shift their position this way or that to avoid a direct confrontation. Of course, even that was proving to be difficult since he was limited to only a small open window of opportunity. Deviate too far from that, and they were floating space debris. So, for the moment, he just had to pour on the speed and hope for the best.

But as a crimson bolt flashed across the viewport and bounced harmlessly off their shields, Kraid's words from earlier came bouncing back to the forefront of his mind. If he got a lock, use the missiles. Right! A snort issued from his mouth as he brought a stubby hand up to slap himself in the forehead. Why hadn't he thought of that before?

Sliding the blast goggles down from the top of his head to fit snugly around his sensitive eyes, Arrul called up the closest target on the sensors and got to work setting a lock. The Predator kept dancing in and out of his cross-hairs and for a moment, it seemed like a feeble effort to even try to knock it out of the sky, but then it seemed to settle into place nicely. He couldn't have asked for a better shot! A low, guttural laugh escaped from deep within his throat as his hand began to depress the switch to send the missile on its way when the screen turned a funky green hue before blinking out completely.

But it had been too late. Arrul had already fired and the missile had been released, but it was impossible to tell if it had remained on course. A string of curses in his native tongue were the first things to spring from his mouth as he slammed a fist down on the console. What the kriff had happened?!

"Uh, you might see some funny things on our sensors. Or, maybe nothing at all," came a sheepish voice over the comm. Kraid.

Smacking his lips together with more annoyance, Arrul thumbed the comm to send back a response to the human. "You might've done me a favor and told me this sooner," he growled. "I just missed out on a great opportunity!"

Realizing what he did, Kraid sheepishly responded to his pilot. "Uh, whoops, heh heh?" His energy quickly returned like a missile that might be heading towards a Predator. "But our missiles will kill the target! They're active radar guided, not semi-active, so they don't need the ship's sensors!" A pause. "I think."

He eyed the corrupted navigation display. "Anyway, we're gonna know pretty quick if those Imps get screwed up or or if it's just us screwed." A pause. "Up."

"Unless you happen to be seeing double and believe me to have grown a third appendage, I'm rather occupied at the moment," the doctor replied. "However, if you wish to perform an act of self-repair, you may plunder the stash of bacta patches we have so conveniently collected and apply one to your arm. However, only one, as the rest I require to patch up your colleagues making a mess all over my table. Do try not to fall over and create more work for me again, won't you?" Returning to attempting to hold his patients together in one piece for a while longer, the doctor idly wondered where that tubing he had ordered had gotten to.

Dow arrived back in the medbay with an armful of bacta patch packets just as the doctor finished talking to Tal. Feeling greater urgency, he still did not wait and immediately ran almost the length of the ship back to the cargo hold.

He gathered another bunch of packets into his one arm, reaching around them and sweeping them to his torso. Only two or three packets remained, but Dow couldn't carry them. "Thee tubeeing, my friend!" he called to Dervin-Joss without looking at him.

He ran back to the medbay, dumping the packets next to the canisters, and immediately returning to the cargo hold. He wondered whether Dervin had gotten the tubing yet, and where he could even get it from. Zhaelor'dau realized he might have to help the Ongree with that.
