Has this been discussed yet? The Legend of the Seeker is a new Sam Raimi television series based on Terry Goodkind's epic fantasy series The Sword of Truth. Not a great fan of the books, but I kind of like Raimi. The previews don't really inspire much confidence in this show, though.

Richard (Craig Horner) looks much too young and boyish, Zedd (Bruce Spence) doesn't look like nearly enough fun, and Kahlan (Bridget Regan) looks too soft. I'm worried that this show will be Hercules-style silliness. But I may give it a chance.

This is proof that evil exists in the world, as a thinking and deliberate force.

I'm hoping it will be a good substitute for Xena: Warrior Princess. One of the better TV-Series I've seen yet in my life when it comes to fantasy/adventure. I haven't read the books but from what I've heard they are not doing a 100% accurate adaptation rather than an interpretation of the same books. Maybe that will offend some people but I'm rather curious about this series.

I'm kind of excited. Wizards First Rule was one of the first adult fantasy novels I've read. The sequels weren't impressive. I'm going to hope they post episodes on the internet (something tells me my roommates won't be into me watching it for two hours, if we even get the station it's on) but I think I'll be very busy comparing it to the books and finding it lacking.

 I knew it. Started by me nonetheless. Maybe we can merge these two threads?

There's a new teaser out entitled "Answers". See it at the official website or on Youtube.

I did not know. Wish the search function worked. Could have googled it, I guess.

The premere is tomorrow night. The plan was to watch it, but its stupid to premere on a Saturday, especially the Saturday after Halloween. Is anyone going to watch it?

Does anyone know if they'll put it on the internet after for the people who can't catch it?

Don't know if the network has any plans on getting it online, but it is online elsewhere.

I've never seen such negative feedback as Jordan and Goodkind garnered in their books. But a tv show is quite different; I don't expect endless monologues as a thousand reviews are saying. Neither do I expect the Song of Ice and Fire program to have endless porno.

Well. As with anything in Aust, first season gets one evening slot, then the next gets the midnight slot, where all those vile dating ads paramour themselves to you.

Oh wait! We've got hi-def tv now! We may not even be able to view ot on free-to-air now. [:D]

I missed it, but the first half-hour was free from iTunes. Better than expected, but not that good. Exposition heavy: perhaps too much babble about Confessors and Seekers and Midlands for those who haven't read the books. Good sfx for TV, though: it opens with a quite impressive chase on horseback. Kahlan doesn't feel strong enough for the role, but maybe she'll grow into it, and she's certainly attractive. Richard and Darken Rahl, unfortunately, both look far too pretty, far too twentieth century. Zedd isn't really doing it for me yet: he doesn't seem nearly wise or eccentric enough. So far, a rather bland but not bad tv fantasy. I'll give it a shot.

The entire plot is identical to star wars. What is this. The whole time I was watching this I was like, okay, that girl better not refer to the crazy hermit guy as a wizard...do'h! Then on a whim I decided to do some research (having not read the books) and I was like, hm, I'm betting Richard's father is also the primary antagonist...um, yep. Well gee whiz.

How is that bad? It's the setup that matters, it's how it's presented. Star wars is your originator? What did it's themes copy from?

Good start. I liked what I saw. The bad parts first. The exaggerated usage of CGI and slow motion. It's okay for a while but gets tiresome after a while. The good part is the story and it's characters, the location they film this series in (New Zeeland) and it's surroundings, the props (clothes, weapons, buildings etc). I'm gonna give this series a fair chance at least.

What I like about these Australian/NZ shows is the actors I get to see from other productions they shoot in that part of the world. Thus far I've seen Typho from the prequels, one of Farscape's villains, and Haldir from LOTR in various roles on this show. And Ted Raimi made an appearance. Awesome.

Though if I ever end up watching an entire episode, I might change my mind.

Oh hell yes. Ted Raimi already. I love nepotism.

The third episode was as good as the two first. Ted Raimi as Sebastian "the map maker" was a blast to see. I like him as an actor and he has never disappointed me, not this time either. I like what they did with that monster in the cave. Instead of relying on CGI they went with good old "Creature Feature" effects and the WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) premise, and only showing face, claws, arms, hand, legs etc etc.

So, how well does it match up with the books, so far? I remember seeing the trailer and wondering if it would be able to keep the same feel. Does it?

I've read the first book so I'm gonna watch this at some point, just waiting for the right time. I'll probably find time to watch the aired episodes during christmas...

I've been watching it, and whilst the initial episode is setup with mostly the same premise as the books, it soon goes off in its own direction and becomes fairly standard episodic faire.

It was always unlikely to stay true to the books unless on a channel like HBO, due to the very adult nature of some parts of the books.

Whilst it is enjoyable, I've already tried to separate it from the books in my mind. I would have preferred a more accurate mini-series style conversion of each book, instead of this very tame affair. Already we've been introduced to the Sisters of Light in a completely different context, and to the Rada'Han separately to the Sisters of Light (both of which appear in the novels after Darken Rahl has been defeated).
