I agree with technomage...The Hand of Thrawn would have been a great place to end the Star Wars novels. In it, the struggle started in TPM ends.

Anyway...As for the poll...I would say my view on Zahn's work has gone up. No one else - even the new authors in the NJO - can capture how the characters act as well as Zahn.

    A) Increased. With the Vong, there could be a very good oppertunity for him to write SW again.

Stayed the same. Stackpole is still the only author who can top him.

I liked the way he cleared things up with Thrawn and ended the war. He has written the characters very close to the movies. Alot better then some other authors. And as usual, he leaves you hanging with more questions about something, making you want to read more to find out the answers.

    a) Increased. I agree with the above. And besides, I was getting really sick of the Empire vs. NR plot device. Still, I wish the IR was more powerful. :)

C.) Stayed the same. I liked both the Thrawn trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn duology. However, I don't compare his work to the works of those authors in the NJO.

Increased. As I read how bad the competition can be, I marvel at how good he is. Also, I have read other stuff by him, and seen more of his range and intelligence.

After reading the dren that is Vector Prime, DelRey's idea of a kick-off book, I appreciate even more the choice of Zahn to kick off the Bantam EU.

don't get me wrong...I liked his SW stuff but his original stuff is much better.
Warhorse, Icarus Hunt to name two of'em.

Okay, let's break it down. I loved Heir to the Empire and Dark Force Rising, thought the Hand of Thrawn duology was maybe a little above mediocre, and though that the Last Command was one of the worst books i have ever read. Now for the poll, well, i read the HoT duology while reading NJO so i don't know if i can really answer unbiasedly (is that a word), but i would probably say decreased.

P.S. Vector Prime is 100 times better than any Zahn book. Flame me if you will.
