A truly great director. In spite of some critics claiming his style on ROTJ was weak, I entirely disagree. He left a huge mark on ROTJ and his style certainly shows in many ways not seen in any of the other five

While I find Return of the Jedi to be a more uneven film than either of its two predecessors, it's still a great film in its own right and one of my top ten favorites of all time. So, thank you for giving the original trilogy the ending it deserved, Marquand. Star Wars wouldn't feel complete without it.

He did a fantastic job with ROTJ in my opinion, contrary to what many say. Just saw this thread---I would've commented earlier.

Marquand did a wonderful job as director. It was actually his idea to have Yoda in the film. Originally, Luke would have been too late and Yoda would have already passed on, but Marquand felt that Luke's promise to return was so important that Yoda would have a few words with him before his death. It was a memorable, poignant scene. Plus, wouldn't it suck if Yoda was only in TESB during the CT? I think the way Marquand handled the film, despite its narrative flaws, was very professional.

Actor Jack Purvis (seen here as Gustavus in "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen") passed away on this date in 1997. Aside from the lead actors, he's one of the few performers to appear in all three films of the OT (as the Chief Jawa in ANH, the Chief Ugnaught in TESB, and Teebo in ROTJ).

Purvis was also in Time Bandits and Brazil. Three Lucas films and three Gilliam films: not a bad resume! Damn shame he broke his neck in a car accident. Poor fellow.

The make up artists did a spectacular job throughout the franchise. They deserve a lot of praise for the success of the Saga.

It's been ten years since his chores were done.
For ten years, he's been wasting time with his friends on the other side!

    Time flies.

Let's pay tribute with a more tasteful action figure representation of Uncle Owen than the usual ones the interwebz comes up with straight away (you know the ones I'm talking about):
