ST TLJ Trailers and TV Spots Discussion

I hope teaser/trailer whatever brings some excitement because marketing so far have been an equivalent to




Toy box was dull save Rey's new hair and Celebration poster is duller. Nothing to talk about. They are just cutting and pasting floating heads without any connection and/or hint of context.

 

^ You're hard to please. The movie is 10 months out. Relax.

 

I'm guessing there will be about six trailers, counting the international versions of each. And I'm planning to not watch the...fourth one.

 

This happens all the time, people are "disappointed" in the marketing way too early then closer to release they will complain that we're seeing too much. The longer we see nothing of this movie the better. We're way too far out

 

I'm very optimistic about the movie itself but compared to marketing nuggets from, lets say, GOTG Volume 2, Logan, etc this is dull. heck, as shown in Spoilers thread, they completely recycled Poe's sideways pose from TFA banner, while other 2 poses remained similar too. No wonder TLJ one felt stale.

 

We've still got to get through the huge marketing that will be the May 40th Anniversary first.

 

The stuff about floating heads reminded me of this for some particular reason

 

Floating heads are the worst marketing tool bar none.

No offence to those movies you mentioned, but they are not Star Wars and will never compare to the hype for Star Wars.

If you're on a Star Wars forum and you still don't understand how the marketing for these movies work, then I don't know what to tell you.

 

Maybe they should consider orange heads. That seemed to work for a Presidential campaign, so why not a movie?

 

I also think there will be exactly six trailers and I'm planning on not watching the seventh one

 

I hear the seventh trailer will be two hours long.

 

The marketing for Logan didn't start until October. The same for Guardians of the Galaxy, which puts the first footage for GotG at seven months before release. If/when we get the TLJ trailer at Celebration in April, it'll be eight months out from release, which means it's still starting its marketing earlier relative to when Logan or GotG Vol. 2 did.

 

I'll hold you to that!

 

In other words, I think it'd be hilarious if Luke suddenly had Yoda's sentence structure impediment now that he's the master.

 

Part of me wishes Mark talk like the Joker/Trickster/hobgoblin for the first part of the film. Freaking Rey out.

 

It could be because that is a picture of a floating head.

 

I'm hoping we get one soon, but fully braced to wait until April.

What will the deal be with the Han Solo trailer when the time comes? Its due in theaters 5 months after Episode 8 (as of the first photo release, they still haven't moved the date back), so I'm guessing the whole waiting for the hype of one to die down will not be true this time around. And is that enough time with a Star Wars movie?

 

Han Solo trailer will definitely appear with TLJ in theaters.

 

TLJ is not TFA so do you really expect similar marketing? TFA needed to establish the resurrection of the franchise, hence the announcement trailer 13 months prior to release. After that it was Teaser 2 in April and Final Trailer in October (what TLJ will probably follow in terms of promotion). In addition, TLJ doesn't need to establish anything (the ST is already stored in the mindset of the audience) so its normal for its marketing to start in April (similarly to Rogue One's marketing).

I expect marketing for TLJ to be similar to R1 in terms of timing. However, I expect marking to be MUCH bigger than R1 heading closer to release itself. In other words, the teasers and trailers will follow a similar pattern in terms of release, but overall marketing will be much bigger with more hype heading into the fall and early winter.
