I'll take that bet. A contest in 5-speeds.
I don't pretend to speak for OZK, but what the hell is wrong with being litigious? It's literally the only recourse a person has when faced with discrimination from businesses that don't want to address it themselves. And why is "forcing" an employer to hire women any more wrong than "forcing" a restaurant to serve black customers? Sure, it doesn't address everything, but punitive measures and litigation do and have gone a long way.
Even, watch out on not agreeing with Ender. You don't want to anger the King of Feminism.
YOU WOULDN'T LIKE HIM WHEN HE'S ANGRYYYYYYYY
Being that slippery and with all that dodging, son, you could be a damned All Black!
I think you missed the point Evens. SLG wasn't at a loss with how to proceed. She was saying "I can't believe that this kind of idiocy exists in the world today." Mansplaining the right to litigation or other avenues of recourse wasn't the point - the point was to highlight that despite what men say about how sexism against men IS ALSO REALS, institutionalised bias against women exists and is dumb and here is evidence of it existing and being dumb.
For the record, I'm neither suggesting you are a) mansplaining anything or b) sexist (overtly or otherwise).
so, she wants us to listen to her problems, but she doesn't want us to help? is that it?
Isn't it sexist to assume that slg falls into that stupid stereotype about women?
I think you're also kind of missing the point. I don't recall anybody asking you to ride into this thread on your white horse to defend our fragile honor. You're going overboard to the point where you're now speaking for people. Simmer down. We're perfectly capable of telling those who warrant it to stfu.
Anyway, I don't currently deal with any sexism in the workplace. I fear that might change as I am going back to school in a couple of weeks to get my degree, and switching to a career that has a male to female ratio of up to 10:1. Crashing the sausage party!
on topic lololol
> Surprisingly, female scientists were as biased as their male counterparts.
I don't necessarily see why that's "surprising." Minorities have often internalized the negative views and norms of the predominant culture. That's part of why, you know, it's predominant.
Women are minorities now?
In the context of STEM they absolutely are. My department has something like a five to one ratio of men to women.
And it's predominantly the result of crap like this
only perhaps moreso because the "women are bad at math" stereotype permeates nearly all levels of our society. By the time they get to university a lot of women have internalized a hatred for the subject and there's nothing we can do - this same hatred is somewhat prevalent among men, too, owing to cultural attitudes towards the subject in general, yes, but in my anecdotal experience not to the same extent. And that's before you get into the fact that STEM professors tend to be older males who, in turn, tend to be not quite as forward thinking on the subject as they ought to be owing to generational gaps.
I work in the automotive business. And you would think that guys are sexist in my business and you would be wrong. Pigs sometimes, but sexist no way. Why, my business is based on knowledge and skill. Skill at selling cars and service and knowledge on the vehicles and financing. If you got it, we want you. We don't care if you are male or female. Especially as service writers and sales people. Everyone is relying on their skills to sell service or cars. Mechanics can't make money if the service writers can't sell jobs or handle people. The dealership as a whole loses out if not enough sales goes thru. Trust me it costs lots of money to have a lot full of cars especially used ones. The manufacturers also give us more allowances and money if we sell more so its in our best interest if the salespeople keep working. Now granted some older customers are total sexists and think women can't do anything and usually find out that is not true. I work with a woman sometimes two in every department. I can also say that they all do their jobs great. Those that can't don't last long. I know of several general managers of automotive stores who are women and one is also the head of the Northeast dealers association. And that's a lot of old guys you have to impress to become head of the organization.
I tried as hard as I could and absolutely hated math only getting higher than F my senior year, when I took an interest to it and got a A in precalcuous and trig. By then the damage was done, I thought I wasn't a math person or it doesn't come natrually. My sister is a math major, loves math in every way. I think the middle school and elementry years it's important not to discourage ppl or give them bad experiances, but sadly that's when kids bully most and teachers are nazis most.

Ummm yeah piggishness and sexism kinda go hand in hand Beez.
There's a difference. Some of the guys will have pictures on their computers or have magazines but won't ever direct it at the women they work with. There is mutual respect. If they can do the job they will completely support them. At the same time no service writer wants a guy that can't fix anything. There is respect as long as there is skill. You can't stop a guy from being a pig. But for the sake of their paychecks guys won't be sexist if it costs them money. In my business skill gets you sales which builds your paycheck. So you can't say you are getting less money as a women. It comes down to your skills at selling whether its a job or a car.
it's like the vegan in the group that takes the time to always complain about how an animal was killed while you are eating it or complaining about meat in general. They are annoying but they don't exclude everyone at work and push management into banning all meat and dairy products. At the same time publicly calling anyone who eats meat a murdering psychopath.
I kinda see what you're getting at, but if a guy is being a pig around or directly to a woman that makes him sexist.
No, the guys I know like that would never do it directly at the same time they wouldn't post something in an employee area or say it to their face. They wouldn't try to retaliate against a woman in any way. I would say they make themselves look like a pig because they talk about it during down times but not a lot. And even then too much of any subject gets your co workers annoyed at you as well. The women in my shop if they heard something or got offended would just go up to the guys and tell them and it would be handled. It is not like you have a guy that tries to sabotage a woman's career or gets angry when a woman shows him up. At that point its a dangerous work environment and smacks of sexism.
Maybe an example would be us guys discussing the latest sports illustrated swimsuit edition compared to say paying a woman less cause she is a woman or telling her she can't do as good as a job as a guy. A boss would say the SI is not cool and the other stuff is way over the line and a firing offense.
It's okay guys, beezel is here to vouch for his coworkers. And we all know how good beezel's vouching for something is!
I believe in Beezel69lol.
If you feel like puking here's an article.
Years ago my industry was the one place you could find more sexism, pornography and all around bad behavior. But our industry changed with the times and those who didn't were kicked out or retired. I won't say its completely clear. Honestly I haven't seen a picture on someone's computer in a long time. The shop computers are definitely clean of everything. There isn't a boys club mentality anymore. If women want in they get in all the time. I can honestly say we are a lot cleaner then other industries like the Law or finance. Those places have more lawyers then anyone and still you have a boys club.
