So, I've recently realized that I am a feminist, after years of denial and refuting the idea that I couldn't be one because the struggle that feminism stands for is a struggle I can not relate to. But then I started to see that there are different struggles that feminism wants to correct and after reading ALOT of feminist legal theory and anti-essentialist feminism essays and books, I can say that this is something I stand for and can identity my support for.

So any other feminists on the boards and why? Hopefully, if there isn't one already, this will be a discussion of feminism thread. (Quietly hopes Robin West comes up)

    "Why?"

    Common sense and decency, mostly.

But like you said, the word is grossly distorted (mostly by people who don't realize it means a lot of things, and has changed over time).

We actually did have a sexism thread a little while ago but it got derailed by sexism.

Why do you think its common sense? Not disagreeing, or agreeing, just wondering why you think that

At base, I think the divergent strands of feminism share a commonality: treat people like people. Applies to both men and women. Let people have agency and control over their lives, instead of being bound by preconceived societal expectations.

I assert that it's common sense. This is probably a tendentious claim, but I mean common sense in a natural law sort of way. Used to be fairly positivist about these sorts of things, until I concluded that it's a justification for people to be terrible.

I realized several decades ago that men and women aren't equal. Women are better than men. They're smarter, they become more responsible at a younger age and then they stay more responsible at every age thereafter. They should be running the world, and men should be second class citizens, probably shouldn't have the vote or be allowed to drive cars or own property either.

Just be a decent person. Good rule of thumb for anything.

    *Sigh*

Not that that is relevant, that was more towards my feelings of a relationship, which would apply no matter the sex of the person I am in a relationship with.
