Warmonger - Blockade around Nadiem

Sitting there in the Warmonger was a slightly more awkward situation then normal as he contended with his choices of defense. The palm blaster in the forearm holster was merely an added weight he wasn't used to, that and remembering not to flex his wrist a certain way. While the short vibro sword that he had strapped to his back upside down limited his ability to bend giving him a slightly stiff posture that on another species might of been suspicious, and the long sword that he had attached at his waist was making him have to keep a hand on the pommel to rotate just right to stay comfortable whilst sitting.

The Jedi, what could he say? Tiin was the bastian of collected that he dreamt of finding in his other fellow agents, that is if the aura and stigmatism that surrounded Jedi like this was true. Something he personally had no first hand knowledge of to better balance the scales.

"Beyond my fellow agents concerns, will not a Clone Trooper and our groups species variety draw attention if we move out of the town and evacuation area?"

"...will not a Clone Trooper and our groups species variety draw attention if we move out of the town and evacuation area?" Tremor asked.

Tiin shook his head. "No, not necessarily. You may just be a group of Nadiem people who decide to flee the town on their own accord." He gestured toward Rax, who wore the clone armor. "Although I wouldn't suggest taking a clone trooper with you. People may question that. He would have to leave on his own and meet up with you outside of town."

Rax listened while the Master Jedi explained everything. Had he made the right decision in wearing the clone armor? He would most likely be off on his own for a good portion of the mission. Hopefully the clones would believe him to be a clone as well. Was he that good an actor?

The now sober Rex Heaven was trying his best to listen to Tiin's little briefing. His head was pounding. He needed alcohol. He felt himself starting to go through withdrawals...

The veteran Shasta understood everything Tiin was saying. She had never actually been on the battlefield (or near it) in the middle of a war. She had to admit, after 20 years of MI5 experience...she was a little scared.

IC: Mitch Nifesta, Tiin briefing.

Opening up the holo-image again, Tiin answered, "Windsor is about 17 miles north of the cave, but still in Republic territory. And it's only a few miles west of the nearest canyon wall. The cave itself is in Confederacy territory, so we can't get you too much closer or our transport will most likely be shot down."

Mitch opened his datapad, and turned the holo-recording attachment towards the aerial map of the canyon and surrounds that Tiin had put up in response to his own query.

The now coffeine-coloured Zeltron put in, "Has the town been evacuated yet, being in such a danger zone? If not, is it due to be at any time soon, and how many people are we likely to find there?"

"Windsor has not yet been attacked like the village in the valley has, so we're not evacuating as of now. But we have a clone troop encampment there in case they decide to attack. Most of our forces are in the valley because that's where the Droid Army has hit us the hardest. We're in the process of preparing for an evacuation in Windsor. We're moving as many transports in as we can, but most of them are being used in the valley. Windsor is surrounded by farmland, so it's a central location for those people. There's at least a few thousand people there. A bustling little town. Some fear that they'll be attacked and have fled on their own."

Looking at the map, Nifesta wondered why the droid army was confining its activities to the canyon itself. Surely it could overwhelm the civilian and Republic presence within the gully, especially by swarming round the sides. Perhaps that would become clear once they got on the ground.

The twi'lek had to remind himself that that was not his concern, in any case.

"Beyond my fellow agents concerns," Agent P enquired, radiating discomfort from his perch, "will not a Clone Trooper and our groups species variety draw attention if we move out of the town and evacuation area?"

The horned High General shook his head.

"I...never mind." Mitch subsided. He did not like the idea of any of the rookie agents being by themselves, especially one dressed like the droid army's primary target. But the team seemed to regard his opinions as welcome as choobie-wind in a public bath.
He would have to see how the kids felt like handling it. Step in if necessary, but only if necessary.

His mind drifted to the situation of trying to find Ewlla's cabin aboard the Warmonger, and had looked out for her, rubbernecking during the brisk walk from the hangar to here, but there was no sign of his girl.
And he had been blindsided by the flagship being an Acclamator, especially all the trouble he had gone to, to get classified Venator deckplans downloaded to his wristlink. Frag.

Well, he'd exhausted the self-pity. Back to the case.

He raised a pale hand. "Uh, General? Master Sharkey's squad. They were the ones selling this story of your jedi working an off-the-books undercover mission. Where would they be if we wanted to question them?"

There was no 'if' about it, in his mind. Questioning the witnesses would be the way they would play it on Meerian Vice, and the guano worked for Crickett and Tibbs!

"Uh, General? Master Sharkey's squad. They were the ones selling this story of your jedi working an off-the-books undercover mission. Where would they be if we wanted to question them?"

"Sharkey's squad," Tiin responded, "is currently in Windsor. They said Master Sharkey ordered them to return to the town after he discovered this supposed base." His mind trailed off for a moment. "It doesn't make sense that the clones would leave him like that. Sharkey would have wanted the clones around to give him support as he entered this base."

Then Tiin's comlink beeped. Answering it, he saw the small image of an officer. "General, the ship is prepped and ready just as you ordered."

"Thank you," the Jedi responded before closing the connection. Turning back to the MI5 agents, he said, "This assault ship is dipping into Nadiem's atmosphere as we speak. We're deploying a Low Altitude Assault Transport which will take you down to the planet's surface. I'll have an officer escort you down to the docking bay."

Rax Chopchura slid his helmet back on. "Alright, let's do this then," he said, his voice sounding just like a clone. "Sir," he added, exactly as Q'u told him too.

IC: Rax Chopchura and a clone pilot
Location: over Nadiem, approaching Windsor

The team of MI5 agents were escorted down to the docking bay of the Warmonger. Saesee Tiin gave them a "May the Force be with you" good-bye as they boarded the Low Altitude Assault Transport. The clones who piloted the craft were given their orders to drop these people off in Windsor. When one of the clones questioned why they were bringing Nadiem refugees back to the planet, Tiin simply told him not to question the orders given to him by a High Jedi General.

The LAAT left the docking bay and headed down through the atmosphere toward the planet. Threadneedle Canyon could be seen a good distance away. As the ship grew closer, the small towns and villages could be seen on the planet's surface. The LAAT swooped down over the plains and farmland.

The clone pilot turned to look at another clone, who happened to be Rax Chopchura in disguise. "I don't recognize the markings on your armor," the pilot said to Rax, referring to the swirl design Q'u put on his helmet. "You must be new to his planet's battle. I'm called Driver. What do I call you?"

"The name's Chop--" Rax stopped himself before he said his actual name, "--er. Chopper." Thankfully he was quick enough to make a good recovery. Couldn't blow his cover just yet.

"Pleasure to be fighting alongside you, Chopper," the pilot responded. "Welcome to Nadiem."

"Thanks," Rax said.

Then the clone pilot looked at his console and reported, "ETA, three minutes."

"Three minutes, guys," Rax repeated in his synthesized clone voice (thanks to the voice-altering device built into the helmet) as he turned to look back at the other disguised agents.

The dark blue of the interface between space and atmosphere, were visible outside the Warmonger?s atmospheric shield as Mitch followed the MI5 agents and clonetroopers aboard the Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry, or as he overheard the hangar people call them, ?larties?. He guessed that saved time, and seeing as they were on a space cruiser, oxygen too.

While he climbed aboard the lartie from open port side, the spherical form of the Last Bolt zipped in from the starboard side.
He looked at it quizzically.

Payload delivered, it reported cryptically.

The twi?lek grinned at the floating camouflage-mottled globe. ?Good man. Did you see her?? While he had been in Tiin?s briefing, the artificial intelligence had gone a-wandering, tracking down Ewlla?s quarters. ?Payload? referred to the be-ribboned Q2 holdout that he had successfully mind-tricked Carfax out of, and stuffed up the Bolt?s ventral compartment.

The two were able to continue their exchange, thanks to the loud noise from the military-grade repulsor engines, which were not muffled in the slightest, as well as the ambient noise level within the warship?s hangar.
Neither was the eventual drop into the atmosphere, a quiet affair, with air scudding past the craft?s hull and shields.

No. Found her cabin though. She must be on duty.

Grabbing onto a ceiling handhold, Mitch swayed as he continued his private conversation. ?Well I hope you didn?t just leave it on her bed; we don?t want to trigger a security alert before she finds it?

Do I look like a prat?

Mitch put up a palm to placate his friend. ?Sorry, did not mean anything. Where did you leave it, then??

Under the covers. Do you know how hard it is re-make a bed with just a data probe, and no opposable digits? You are Byss-ing in the wind if you want hospital corners.

The twi?lek guffawed at the pun, ragged strands of thread standing out from his cloak as he leaned too close to the invisible blister shield separating him from a really long drop.

?I don't recognize the markings on your armor,? the pilot turned right round to talk to the nearest clone in the passenger cabin. ?You must be new to his planet's battle. My name?s Driver. What do I call you? A clonetrooper standing next to the team?s disguised trooper, identified himself. ???

Mitch looked up to glare at the pilot, and saw Threadneedle Canyon through the cockpit canopy. He was annoyed that the pilot was not looking what he was doing, but he still wore a residual smile from the joke.

?The name's Chop----er. Chopper.?

?Pleasure to be fighting alongside you, Chopper,? The pilot said, ?Welcome to Nadiem.?

At those words, Mitch Nifesta sobered, and looked down at the planet they were gliding fast towards. The scattering of huts below, gave way to orange-yellow plains and the green swatches of successful farmland.

Welcome to Nadiem, indeed.

"Three minutes, guys," Rax announced to the team.

OOG: When it comes to major breaches of personal boundaries with stuff like mind control, a lack of a response usually should be interpreted as "no", especially if the target in question is legendarily stubborn and the guy using the mind control is kind of mediocre at it. Also when it's for some pointless gesture like a gift that won't even show up until the end of the game (or potentially skeezy things like interfering in interpersonal relationships. Or downright criminal stuff like violating the trust of a top secret interplanetary organization by compromising the security of its staff). That's kind of like firing up the Death Star because you wanted a skylight.

Pythia's fingers danced across the keyboard as she activated the concealed comms on the agents' clothing. Onscreen, grainy images of the clone ship's interior flickered into life, along with satellite images of the battlefield from the Eyeball itself. Putting on her headset, Pythia flicked the mic on. Every agent could now hear her voice, either through the comms concealed in their clothing or, in the case of the ones disguised as clones, through their helmet systems. Luckily for her, every agent had had the foresight to put their comm somewhere close to their ears where nobody else could hear it.

OOC: You'll have to pardon my absence. After reading everyone's PM's regarding the "issues" earlier, I took a day to contemplate how to respond to everyone and resolve those issues. Then Real Life got in the way of things and it delayed me even more. But now that I'm back, I see you have resolved things on your own. I liked seeing that. So, I apologize for not responding to anyone and not posting in the thread in a timely manner. I don't anticipate it happening again without giving everyone a warning that I'll be gone. The LAAT slowed as it approached the landing area and the clone pilot, called Driver, set the ship down gently. There were other LAAT's and Republic ships sitting idle around them with clones and droids scurrying around. As everyone disembarked, Driver said, "Lieutenant Iillor is waiting for you." He waved an arm outward across the landing field toward a blonde human female.

To maintain cover, Rax Chopchura figured since he was wearing the clone armor, he should probably "escort" the civilians across the field. As he stepped past Driver, he patted him on the shoulder. "Thanks for the lift, Driver."

"Don't mention it. Good luck, Chopper."

"Come on, everyone," Rax said, motioning for the other disguised MI5 agents to follow. Driver watched Rax head toward Lieutenant Iillor before climbing back in to the LAAT.

Ewlla watched as the expected LAAT landed amid a brief blow of sand, pushed out by the aircraft's repulsors.

A trooper bearing a swirl design on his helmet, escorted the motley crew of humans, near humans, and outright aliens, up to her.

She saluted Chopper, though she did not yet know his name. "Thank you, Trooper. Dismissed" She turned her gaze from the clone to greet the group of investigators with a smile, though she made sure to rein it in a bit. She was a military officer, not a holiday rep. "Welcome to Nadeim. LAAT travel can be nauseating for the inexperienced, so if you are feeling unwell, I direct your attention to the freshers over there." Iillor waved to a bank of ten light-blue porta-freshers standing by an isolated brick wall that had seen better days. "Don't do it here, as people have to walk here."

She could see her reflection in the large black lenses of the sunglasses worn by a pale white twi'lek standing behind some of the agents, easily the tallest of the newcomers. When they got the squad questioning out the way, maybe she would tell him where to buy a hat.

"General Sharkey's squad is close by, should you want to question then. I can order them to answer you, of course, but what are you going to say if they want to know why you are asking?"

The twi'lek responded first, indicating his fellows with a thumb. "Lieutenant, I don't know about the rest of these abos, but you can introduce us two as C.B.I."

Her left eyebrow ticked up. "C-?"

"Clones' Bureau of Investigation."

Division Six. A voice interjected, but she did not see any of their lips move. A painted metal globe rose out of the crowd, and descended between them and her.

Ewlla jumped at the appearance, though these days, she hid it well. As always since that time on Tatooine, the first appearance of a droid always made her start, but that was it. Her eyes followed it.

"Alright, everybody ready to go meet General Sharkey's men?"
She half-turned, ready to take the group to the witnesses.

The nine clones entered the temporary barracks the Republic set up near the landing field in Windsor. They were the squad that Sharkey had ordered to head back to the town when he entered the suspected Separatist base. Currently, they had been assigned to patrol the small town, keeping an eye out for not only Separatist activity, but also looters and other trouble-makers in this time of war. So far, they hadn't come across anything.

Taking off his helmet, one of the clones, nicknamed Face-off, said, "Good. It was about time for a shift change. Boring as hell out there. There's nothing happening."

"We should be out on the front lines," another responded.

"Anyone heard anything about General Sharkey yet?" Face-off asked his crew.

"No."

"Nope."

"Nothing."

The others just shook their heads.

"So I guess we wait some more," Face-off said, taking a seat at one of the empty tables.

Now he had to make things up as he went along. He was confident he could do it. He had to do it. He took a deep breath and continued on his way.

Shasta watched Rax head away from the rest of the team. She hoped he'd be okay.

"...squad is close by, should you want to question then. I can order them to answer you, of course, but what are you going to say if they want to know why you are asking?" Iillor continued. Then there was an exchange with Nifesta and his droid. "Alright, everybody ready to go meet General Sharkey's men?"

Rex was about to ask where the nearest cantina was, but refrained, knowing that that would be a bad idea in this situation. "Yes," he responded.

Shasta nodded. "Yes, we're ready." She began to follow the Lieutenant.

OOC: I'm still here too! Just waiting for the right opportunity to post, as the role I'm taking doesn't really allow me to just jump in :p

IC: Agent Mitch Nifesta, the Last Bolt, Lieutenant Ewlla Iillor, Windsor Township.
Location: Nadeim

Trailing the skirted Judicial Forces officer across the parched ground, put the twi?lek agent in two minds.

Her dark blue uniform, coupled with the polished black kneeboots, becalmed his mind; in sharp contrast to the sandy and arid surroundings, which were anything but.
From the distant whine of Separatist weaponry testing Republic barriers, to the hot and hostile environment itself. Though when he was reminded of Tatooine, those had been the last of his glory days, when the ability to feed on his main food source, had given him his fuel.

Now, upon his return to Republic space, while a lot remained the same, a lot else had changed.
Both jedi and Sith had raised their profile in this universe, and had significant backup on both sides of the war.

They would not disappear easily.

Nifesta shook his head at the irony. One had. One had.

His laser comlink had activated in his shoulder holster, while he had still been on the LAAT, and he had been packed in tight enough with that Driver fellow, that he had been unable to check on the regular bleeping, for fear the wrong eyes would see his concealed S-5, though he suspected it was the Mission Controller, comming to remind him to buy a loaf of bread.

Thinking about Driver, reminded him of Chop...per. He signalled the Last Bolt?s ITO globe, and nodded after Rex? diminishing form.

?Keep an eye on him, but not too close. Call me if he runs into trouble.?

Copy. The ball arced away from the group, and moments later, they had arrived at the large white tent, where the lieutenant was holding aside the door flap to provide a dim but tall triangular opening for them to step through, then went through herself, which for some reason, amused the hulking twi?lek.

He smiled paternally down at her blonde head.

Ewlla stood to the side of the entrance, to allow the MI5 group to file in. She looked across at a small group of dusty clonetroopers, lounging at trestle tables.

?This is General Sharkey?s squad.? She announced, half turning to the visitors. She was glad to see the interrogation droid had gone. She had been ruminating on the design, during the walk to the tents, and eventually recognised the design.
Though these were not her men, as an officer, even a relatively junior one such as she, she had some responsibility for their wellbeing, and she would not have countenanced the interrogation model being used to question these loyal soldiers of the Grand Army.

She called over. ?Squad? At ease. These gentlebeings have questions regarding General Sharkey.?

Mitch?s mind went blank! Now that he had the direct opportunity to talk to the last people to see the missing jedi master, what on Fornax was he supposed to ask them?

Ewlla waited for the first query from the investigating agents.

OOC: A quick heads-up: I am in the process of moving to a new place, so the next couple weeks will be hectic. I certainly won't be abandoning the game for those weeks, but if I don't respond right away, that's why. I'll try to get on here everyday, even if I have to drive to my brother's apartment or my parents' house. :p

IC: Shasta Moonreaper, Rex Heaven, Sharkey's clone troopers
Location: Temporary Barracks, Windsor, Nadiem

The nine clones were sitting around the table. Some were eating, some were trying to get a few minutes of sleep, and one was cleaning his gun. A few turned to look at all the people that walked in...one of which was Lieutenant Iillor. "Lieutenant," the clone named Face-off exclaimed, jumping up and saluting. The other eight followed.

"Squad? At ease. These gentlebeings have questions regarding General Sharkey." Iillor explained.

Now at ease, one of the clones, nicknamed Wrister, repeated, "Questions regarding the General? I guess you're not regular Nadiem civilians, then."

Face-off glanced at him and said, "Quiet, Wrister. You don't question a superior's orders." Face-off was obviously a Sergeant, with the olive green markings on his armor, and the leader of the squad. Turning back to the undercover MI5 agents, he said, "I'm called Face-off. What did you need to know?"

IC: Agent Mitch Nifesta, CBI, barracks tent
Location: Windsor Township, Nadeim

Mitch gave the troopers his full attention as the young officer prepped them for the visitors.

"Questions regarding the General? I guess you're not regular Nadiem civilians, then." Noted one Brain Trust.

Another trooper with olive green markings on his armour, glanced at the speaker, "Quiet, Wrister. You don't question a superior's orders. I'm called Face-off. What did you need to know?"

"Wrister?" Nifesta echoed with an amused tone, "Is there, is there a story behind the name?"

Out the corner of his eye, the twi'lek saw the lieutenant roll her eyes, and that was enough to pull him back from the brink. He was better than this.

"Okay. Face-Off, is it?" That was one name whose story deserved to be told round the campfire; not here. "Can you tell us how the General was before the operation that morning, and how he was during the mission, leading up to his surprise order for your to separate? Did any of you notice anything odd?"

OOC: Just on here for a quick moment to say that the TV and internet is being switched to my new apartment tomorrow afternoon, so I won't be able to respond for a day or two. Also, to clarify, "Wrister" refers to a "Wrist Shot", which is a type of shot a player takes in the sport of ice hockey when he or she tries to score a goal. Probably should have mentioned that in my previous post. [face_blush]
