Think of a song that you want to pass along to new generations. Not just a "listen to it song"...Something you feel says something about your generation and humanity. If you want, give your reason. Lets have some fun with this.

Sailing the seas of space at light spead and returning home to find everything's passed 100 years?

 

I thought about just taking potshots at this idea, because it's easy and sometimes fun. But wth, it seemed more interesting to take it seriously.



I went with Bird on a Wire by Leonard Cohen, sung here by Johnny Cash. (Cohen can't sing.) It's just sort of a human condition song, full of ambivalence and need. Some part of this song applies to everybody at some point.

 

Because that point in time (when the song was recorded and released - re: after the Fall of the Berlin Wall) seemed so hopeful. Maybe someday, we can capture that feeling again.

 

I mean, if you really sit down and think about it, it's obvious.

 

Why not have a tongue-in-cheek attitude about a great danger?

 

I feel like this is how everyone should live their lives.

 

Enjoy life, party and friends, but never forget that you are the most important thing in the world and don't let anything take you down.

 

just four verses of pretty solid advice. and i think tupac has posthumously been given an unfair image and it's important for people of the next generation to understand and remember that he was actually really cool.

 

No matter how much The Machine gets you down.

 

If I had to sum up what being a teenager in the 1990s felt like, it would be this.
