Life is Good

?I?m gonna get Janson for this.?

I looked up at Commander Antilles, the victim of yet another Wes Janson prank. He looked quite comical, covered in some sort of orange goo. ?If I find that son of a schutta??

I laughed. ?Wedge, when will you learn?? I walked over and wiped some of the orange goo off with my finger. ?Singing-Ewok brand marmalade? Wes is getting good.? I licked my finger. ?Mmm. This stuff is good.?

Wedge gave me a strange look. ?How did you know what it was??

I gave him a small smile. ?I?m your XO. I know everything you do, and more besides.? I wiped my hand off on my shirt. ?And don?t you worry. Wes has been a little out of hand lately. I have made some? arrangements,? I finished, winking at wedge.

Right on cue, Janson walked in. Wearing nothing but an Ewok.

?Um, do you guys know where my clothes are?? Wes shifted Lieutenant Kettch to better protect his decency.

?Can?t say I do,? Wedge said, laughing. ?Didn?t I hear that you have a date with Inyri tonight??

?Not if I can?t find my clothes? I?m gonna kill whoever did this to me.? As Wes hobbled out, still holding Kettch, I distinctly heard Shalla laugh and comment on Wes?s butt.

?That should put him in check,? I said smugly.

Wedge was shocked. ?You did that?? I merely smiled. ?But why??

I sighed. ?Wedge, there?s too much suffering in the galaxy to be sad. Humor lets us forget the sometimes dreadful lives we live. It helps us forget things like Alderaan. Like the Lusankya.? I sighed. ?Laughing was the ultimate sin you could commit in Iceheart?s twisted world. Every laugh is a slap in the face of evil. And I, for one, like making evil feel bad.?

A silence passed between us. Wedge looked up at me, with compassion clearly showing in his eyes. ?Tycho?I?ll always be there to help you,? he said, smiling at me. ?Well, I need to go get cleaned up for my date with Iella??

I saluted him. ?Good luck, Wedge. And remember. Impossible is what Rogue Squadron does best.?

Wedge laughed. ?I?ll remember that when I ask Iella to dance.? He walked out the door, whistling.

I waited three seconds after he had left the room before pressing a button on the side of my comlink. I could hear Wedge?s startled cry as a foul smelling liquid was dropped on his already dirty uniform.

Life is good.

 

This is very good, and I really love it.

Great job, Valin! I really like the mix of seriousness and humour. You've captured the characters perfectly. And I loved the ending. Well done!

Love the ending, and a great job with an . . . interesting . . . side of Tycho. Keep up the good work!
