    Would they be practical in real world sword combat?

    of course you can't deflect bullets.8-}

    But would they be useful?

    are there any fencers out there who can shed some light on this subject?

    Some of the techniques in the films are "real" techniques, and some are strictly movie choreography. Qui-Gon, Mace Windu and OT Darth Vader, while not visually the most impressive fighters, have the most authentic fencing techniques.

    True that the fighting styles were based on and included "real" styles. The choreography was very well done for the films. However, the 'styles' in the Star Wars universe I don't really understand the various 'forms'.

    I actualy taught a sword fighting class that I formatted acording to the 7 styles. I didn't actualy teach any different moves than I do in my regualar classes. So yes they are absolutly usable in real life. In cass you were wondering it was a blast.
