    The other end shorted out. You can barely see this in the film, but it's there.

    That would just chop in half the user, unles they threw it at people, either way it impratical, lightsabre fist, as in gloves that emit beams sorounding them and a suit that is impenatrable to the blade and shoes with the beams.
