Ever since I was a little kid I wanted a lightsaber, unfortunately technology back in the mid 70's didn't offer much...
Some of us remember the old inflatable flashlight types. Still I knew someone could do better! The plastic toy sabers were ok, but I wanted something that was metal and well made. Finally I have found what I was looking for...

For those of you who wanted to know where I got my lightsaber from go to this site...

    http://www.parksabers.com/index.html

Expensive, but worth every penny... :D

Welcome newbie! We were introduced to the parksabers a while back and have another member who owns one. They look awesome with the blades inserted.

Please introduce yourself and look around. Are you the guy from Toys R Us that I heard about from several members?

Park sabres uses an electroluminescent blade to achieve the working effect. Its actually fairly inexpensive to make yourself if you can get the material.

I'm in the process of looking for a supplier on this side of the border, but the material should cost less than $3/ft plus about $10 or so for the power inverter to light it up.

But if you aren't so technically inclined, then yes from all accounts the Parks sabres are nice.

Actually since he know sells replica Graflex and parts I may order a clamp from him for a new sabre design.

If you just want el material might I suggest Thinkgeek.com ? They have an el case mod material for computer towers that runs off of a similar driver. They also sell green lazer pointers for those of you who want a different color lazer for your blasters. [face_mischief]
Green is brighter because of where it sits on the color spectrum.

Also if you have your own hilt and just need an el blade kit you can get on rather inexpensively at http://www.lightechindustries.com

    Hope this helps...

Here's a little sight I came across for all of you guys who want to build your own "working" el lightsabers...

    http://www.beingseen.com

They even offer free tech support even if you got your stuff elsewhere.

Does anyone know where to get knurled nuts around here? I checked Home Depot, Valu, and some mom and pop hardware stores and can't find any.

I could make a very interesting comment in reply to that.. but instead I will just ask:

Home Depot should have brass knurled nuts and thumbwheels in the hardware section, if not you can go to:
    http://www.shear-loc.com/knurled.htm

for plastic thumbscrews, and if you call them and ask nicely they might send you a sample for free. Size number 10 is a good size for most saber applications.

It'd be hard to duel with them in the box, and after a while, depending on how many hits they take, they will open anyway... [face_devil]

My brother and I used to duel each other with the Luke and Vader ones a few years back, when the first came out...

As it stand, my luke lightsbaer is one good hit shy of having the blad crack in half lol.

Luckily for you the re-issued lightsabers are coming then... You should be able to get a replacement that looks just like the original! (See above)

I like hardware, though prefer lathed...more stability for dueling, like our fan films:
