Loved the update. Well done, Jedi_Liz. (Mara putting it off... I can so relate to that.)
"Yes, one of those irritating 'won't take no for an answer' droids. I told him Wes Janson would be happy to buy its product." She grinned mischievously.
Leia looked up and noticed him trying to sneak into his kitchenette. "Oh no you don't!" She exclaimed, jumping up and going to grab his arm. "This is your wedding, too, and you're going to participate in planning it. If you don't help, I'll make sure that Threepio is the one that has the rings."
C-3PO should really be officiating the event
Meanwhile, beside him, Mara was getting frustrated. "All these dress designs don't really suit me. There's no place for my lightsaber or my tiny shoulder blaster."
I love Mara
"Have you told Karrde yet that we're getting married,"
Mara looked down at her feet, not wanting to meet his eyes. "Not yet."
"When were you planning to tell him? The night before the ceremony?"
"I'll get to it. He'll probably ask what happened that made me decide to get married. And he'll probably be a little surprised. He doesn't exactly know about our new relationship."
"Mara -- " Luke's protest was cut off by a kiss from her. "I'll get to it soon. I'm just waiting for the right time." She said, when they broke it off.
"Do you want me to be with you when you contact Karrde?" Luke said, squeezing her hand.
"This is something I have to do on my own, otherwise I'd be happy to have you with me."
Good post, Liz
Very funny chapter, dialogues were very fluid.
Ah, Mara, can't leave her little trinkets at home...
sorry no post yet.........I'm still trying to write and now am trying to rewrite Chapter 18. I don't know when it'll be ready.
I'll do author replies another day. Hopefully I'll be over my Bronchitis in a week and then I'll watch a movie or a television show and get inspiration. I really hate DWB.
I hope you feel better!!! And of course find your muse...we all know how DWB can be...
*Brandishes lightsaber* "Leave Jedi_Liz this instant, or sacrifice your existence!"
Liz.... you know what MMM does to me? It makes me want more mush!!!! Foot, I was thinking today: It's time for a fun and sweet Lightswords uppie. I hate bronchitis. It's the hardest thing to get RID of!! Maybe you should clean out the romantic comedy aisle in the video store, LOL or (on cable) watch the romance only channel There's an A/T fic that I'm reading that is inspired by Monster-In-Law OOh, I just thought of another source of inspiration!! Any parts of the "wedding dress" scenes in Union that might spark something??
thanks for the uppie, jade_eyes, I appreciate it.
I don't think there's much 'mush' planned for chapter 18. It's just where to place things and how to end the chapter that I'm having a problem with.
I'm feeling much better - I have only two days left of antibiotics, then a family picture on Saturday, and then my church's annual Bazaar on Sunday are what are in the days ahead for me + a post on "Parent Trap" on Sunday as well. I'm trying to work on chapter 18 right now, its just difficult as I said above, finding where to place things and how to end the chapter.
Patience is all that I ask.
And I'll do my really late author replies ASAP.
I've decided to delay chapter 18 for at least a month. I am still not sure how I am going to write it. I've got some stuff written, but I am not sure how I am going to end the chapter. I won't post weekly cause I won't have 19 or 20 ready before 2008. I think I just need a break from writing, as its getting very stressful. I'll post another update as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience.
(On the bright side, this gives anyone who's behind in reading this story another month or so to catch up. Some of the chapters have been fairly long. A few are short. I'll also get my replies for chapter 17 posted and an updated PM list posted ASAP. I've removed a few people from the list because they haven't been active on the boards for months. If you're on the PM list, please let me know if you're still reading!)
Oh, Liz!!!! That bites, when writing's not fun!!!!! Gonna miss this, though... L/M chaptered fics seem to be as rare as snow in Florida these days *sending hopeful virtual batch of cheesecake dream cookies* Please get .... inspired soon!! Hugs!!!
I'm trying to get back to work on the next chapter, its just very stressful trying to figure out what to fit into the chapter. Thanks for your patience. Anyone who's behind on the story (you know who you are ) can use this time to play catch up.
The wait for a new post will soon be over. Apologies for not getting my author replies done -- I definitely will do them after posting chapter 18. I sent it off to a beta, so probably within a week I should be able to post.
sorry this post is 3 months AFTER the last one......I had to make it as good as I could.
Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 18 - Of Dresses and Dex
Mara Jade was sound asleep when the urgent beeping of her bedside table's comm unit woke her. Still groggy with sleep, she rolled onto her side and pressed the answer button. "Yes?" she answered tiredly.
"Mara?" The soft, feminine voice of Luke's sister greeted her warmly.
"Leia?" she answered, sleepiness still evident in her voice.
"Did I wake you too early?"
"Sort of." With one hand, she attempted to wipe the remaining sleep from her eyes, then made a mental note to ask her fiancé if there was a Jedi technique to help one fully awaken from sleep that didn't involve drinking large mugs of caf.
"I wanted you to know that I got you an appointment with Jari'kyn the dress maker."
"Great! Thanks for doing this for me. We'll need to pick out your matron of honor dress and Iella's maid of honor dress at the same time. What time is the appointment?" She was hoping she'd have an extra day to prepare.
"Today at twelve thirty."
If Mara had been drinking a cup of caf, she probably would have spit it across the room. "It's today already? What kind of strings did you have to pull?" She knew Luke's sister was good, but she didn't know she was that good.
"No strings - not really anyway. I just told her a friend of mine was getting married and needed to have a inconspicuous and private appointment with her to talk about a wedding dress. Her shop is closed over the lunch hour period of twelve to one fifteen this afternoon. She said she can afford the extra fifteen minutes if you need the extra time."
"I'll probably need the extra time, because I am sure she has a lot of dress designs to look at and dresses to try on."
"She also carries a variety of tuxes. Did you want to pick one out for Luke?"
"Luke's a big boy. I am sure we can just make another appointment for the men to go there. By the way, did you know Luke is taking Han and Wedge out for lunch today?"
"Yeah, Han mentioned it to me last night. Any idea why?" Leia asked, although she already had a hunch regarding the answer.
"Luke is having such a difficult time deciding on a Best Man, he doesn't want to hurt one's feelings. I think he's planning to ask them to share Best Man duties. They'd write the speech together, share the toast, things like that," Mara answered.
"That sounds like Luke, all right, not wanting to hurt someone's feelings. Well, I'll see you and Iella at twelve fifteen today. After the appointment, we can go out to lunch to discuss the wedding."
"Oh, Leia, you don't have to do that - " Mara started to say, feeling embarrassed about the entire situation.
"It's my pleasure, Mara. You're joining the family. It's the least I can do for my future sister-in-law."
With that, Leia disconnected.
Mara rolled back to her other side and yawned. She was fully awake now, there was no denying it. She had a few hours before the appointment and she intended to enjoy this time.
The first thing she thought she'd better do is contact Karrde above the Wild Karrde, but she knew that it was too early to call. She didn't even know where in the galaxy the ship was at this moment. She gently fingered her sparkling engagement ring and smiled. This wedding planning was getting exciting, to say the least. There were just a few things left to do and then the actual wedding could commence.
Meanwhile back at Luke's apartment . . . . .
Luke hoped that Han and Wedge were going to be willing to share Best Man duties. He had already been asked, indirectly, by Wedge if he could be in the wedding party. He hadn't given an answer that night because at the time, he and Mara were yet to announce their engagement to Leia's family.
However, now that Wedge and Iella and Han and Leia knew, there was no stopping Han from asking to be Best Man, or from Wedge asking to be Best Man. Luke, realizing this could be a pro/>
Thanks for the new post, Jedi_Liz! You're doing fine. Keep up the good work!
Fantabulous update. SQUEE! I couldn't resist. I never can. LOL
Nice update! I can just imagine that the best man issues are not totally resolved yet...Wedge and Han are stubborn men. Karrde's reaction was funny. great post! hope to see more soon.
Looking forward to more as always!
Thanks for the PM!
I liked all the little touches... Han and Wedge as co-best man, Mara wanting Karrde to be her escort... well done.
Talon started laughing. "Is this Nasabaygein Fool's Day already?"
Mara held her bejeweled hand up to the screen for Talon to see the ring.
I like that!
Sweet post. I like that you included Jari'kyn; she was a pleasant part of 'Union.' Looks like everything is coming together nicely for our favorite couple.
BUMP for those who may have missed seeing that this is actually UPDATED.
So far the Force is with Mara . Everything seems to be falling into place rather quickly and without much trouble. As I say that, knowing this group you know something crazy is going to crop up if not a whole lot of crazy things. That is the nature of weddings. Could not imagine the complications of a Skywalker/Jade wedding. Great job and thanks.
Just a BUMP cause I know a few haven't seen that this was updated. I'll do author replies soon. Just waiting for a few more replies. I haven't started on Chapter 19. Parent Trap is wrapping up this week so after that's done, I'll be able to get back to work on this one.
Hi, Jedi Liz!
I'm finally coming back to start reading this after a long absence. I'd appreciate it if you would send me updates whenever you post them for this and your other story.
Edit: Well, I just got reaquainted with the first four chapters. What Fun! I wish the pro fic would be fun to read again!
There is an ancient tradition among Jedi. When the child of a Jedi Knight gives his heirloom lightsaber to a fellow apprentice, it is his declaration of everlasting love
I just LOVED those two sentences. LOL! And of course, Mara shows up at just that moment! It was terrific! I loved her reaction to reading the words!
Then it was fun to see Han and the twins. "Jacen's foul stench". SO cute. Such potential. :::Sigh::: What has been done with Jacen in LotF is disgusting.
I loved the way Mara was able to calm Jaina with her little game.
Then it was funny when Mara thrust her lightsaber into poor, confused Han's hands.
I loved the dinner party. Poor Luke! Not a comfortable position for him to be between two beautiful women!
I love this story! I'll read the next few chapters soon!
I know I haven't updated this in two months, and I'm trying to work on a new post. I know there are a handful of my regulars who haven't seen the last post, so I'm upping this.
Giving a big ole bump!!! Ready for some L&M sweetness.
